  1. I will be sleeved in 2 days at BAMMC on Fort Sam Houston. I was required to 3 months of nurtition classes, chest x-rays, psych eval, 2 week liquid diet, sleep study, 2 support group meetings.... It's been a long 3 months, but I am finally at the finishing line.
  2. Totally awesome! You've finally made it!

    Scared

Hi Miss Ivory! My surgery is on this Wednesday. We are practically surgery sisters. lol I am getting scared as well, it just hit me today. Until now I've been telling my friends that I'm very excited and I have no fear. But I think I'm getting last minute jitters. I have been setting my eyes on GOD as I know that he can bring me through this. But then I think, "What if this surgery is not in his will??". I'm so afraid. I read about the abdominal pain and it frightens me. It's good to know somebody else feels this like I do. I keep thinking I can live through a couple weeks of pain to feel better the rest of my life. I'm tired of my knees and feet hurting. I'm tired of pulling myself up stairs, dreading every step. It's time for a change. I wish you the BEST of luck and a quick recovery. Cynthia

Can Army Veterans Get This Procedure?

I'm an military (Army) dependent. I know that during the informative meetings (held at BAMC bariatrics department on Fort Sam Houston) there were many people who are retirees. As far as Tricare requirements go I have gone through 3 months of nutrition classes, a psych evaluation, Xrays and a sleep study. Thoughs who have sleep apnea are required to go through 6 months using their CPAP machine before they are allowed the surgery. Good luck!

    Anxious :-(

I had a rash once that was similar to what you have but it was covering my hands. I had the tingling and numbness. It was really awful. I could barely close my hands to zip zippers, type or anything else. When I had the rash it had nothing to do with surgery though. I went to the doctor and he told me I was having an allergic reaction. At the time their was nothing new in my diet accept for new type of wine I had tried. He said that many times the allergen is never found, but it is often a type of red dye used in many foods. I'm not sure what you are allowed to take right now but I was bet that benadryl would help you. As you recently had surgery, you may be more susceptible to complications so you may want to contact a doctor right away.

    Thoughts...

I haven't had surgery yet but I can imagine that I will feel exactly the same. Hang in there, it can only get better from where you are now.
  8. That's awesome!!! Congrats!

How Longs Is Your Pre-Op Diet?

I'm on the 11th day of my preop diet,3 days left. It was awful for the first 3 days. I cried ALOT! I was an emotional wreck. But it does get easier. 3 days till surgery. woohoo!!!!!
  10. My surgery takes place in 4 more days!!!!!

    Hate To Eat Now

I can imagine how that would become annoying. I certainly hope you get over it soon.
  12. I was supposed to begin a 2 week pre-op diet 4 days ago. Since then I have been drinking most of my requirements but I've also been sneaking very small solids (thin slice turkey breast, 1 pc baked fish, 3 bites sauted chicken). But I have lost 6 lbs since beginning the diet. I feel such guilt when I eat solids but I feel so desperate without them. It's not just a hunger, its completey unsatisfaction. The diet is making me very touchy and even weepy. I have a house full of regular eaters and smelling their catfish and shrimp frying makes my head spin. I am crying right now as I eat my little pc of fish. The unsatisfaction is driving me nuts. But the guilt is even worse. Any advice for me? Any ideas or tricks I could use to help me get through? Should I just try to slowly get into this liquid so that by the 2nd week i'm not eating any chunks at all? HELP!!!!
  13. I will be having my surgery on the 28th. I'm surprised to hear that I won't be able to lift anything for over 3 weeks! I really need to talk to my surgeon because I run a daycare in my home and have been telling my parents I'll be reopening within a couple of weeks of my surgery. :-(

So glad to see you are having awesome progress!!!!
  16. I am looking for things to eat....tired of Soups. What do you think? If I make them really runny can I consider them a Fluid? Cynthia
  17. I'm beginning the second week of my pre-op diet. I'm living on sugar free pudding and low fat-no chunks yogurt. Sugar free popsicles taste like crap, but I eat them anyway. you can have sugar free jello. I eat a TON of cream of mushroom soup. I have lost 8 pounds in 6 days.
  18. Thanks to you all. Today has been less emotional and a little easier. I have a detailed list of the things I can eat right now. Cottage cheese wasn't on the list. On Monday, I'll call the office and see if I can. I almost bought some (small curd) yesterday but I think I should get advice before hand. So far I've lost 7.3 lbs. My particular surgeon does not require a bowel prep (YAY!!). Like Candace, my surgeon warned that if my liver doesn't look right he will sew me back up without performing the surgery. I've noticed I am more tired than usual on this diet which doesn't work well for me. I have children of my own and I have recently opened a daycare business in my home. I'm hanging in there...thanks again for your support and help. Cynthia

    Tell Me I'm Not Crazy

You aren't crazy. I heard the same reactions from all of my friends and family when I was thinking of getting surgery. Now everyone knows I have done my research and I am happy to be getting surgery. They are pretty much all behind me. They realize that I have yo-yoed too often and need something more permanent. Cynthia
  20. TANGERINE JEANS!!!! Like Kate Middleton wore recently to a sporting event. I saw the story on the Early Show yesterday. OMG! Soooo CUTE!
  21. Day 4....I've eaten a few solid things (a slice of turkey breast, few bites of sauteed chicken breast) and down 6 lbs!!!!

How Longs Is Your Pre-Op Diet?

I think it depends on your surgeon. I'm getting mine through a military hospital and the bariatric department requires 2 weeks full liquids. The day before surgery I will be on clear liquids only. They indicated that there have been cases where they have begun surgery and found that the patient hadn't done enough to shrink his liver so they just closed the patient back up and she had to wait to re-apply. Today is the first day of my liquid diet. So far, it is awful. Cynthia
  23. Yesterday was terrible. It was exhausting. Something is wrong with my foot and no time to go get it checked out. My husband and kids are going camping for the next couple of days while I stay here to run my in-home childcare. Last night I was really feeling sorry for myself. I knew it was my last day of real food for a very long time. He took me to Hooters for some wings and fried pickles. I didn't eat that many. Now they're all in the fridge calling my name. I can't stand the thought of this stupid liquid diet. It's only 7 a.m. and I'm already complaining. Okay, I'll stop whining and ask...... How long will the misery of the liquid diet last? Will it only be terrible at first or will I feel starved the entire 2 weeks? Cynthia
