  1. This is so difficult..i am a "fixer" and wanted to help my son soo much. He went through a bad decade, starting about age 11. When I found out he was cutting himself, it destroyed me. I don't have any answers, but I have hope. My boy just turned 27. He is responsible, employed, has tons of friends and loves his mommy again. You are in my prayers. TACO BELL it is

I dont doubt that, but my already queasy tummy is objecting to the mere mention. I feel myself turning green....lol It's funny that calamari, sashimi and sushi don't phase me but this does...Ha! Sent from my KFJWI using the BariatricPal App

    Regrets that got better

@@ssflbelle I wrote you a long post and of course it just disappeared. I had a tough time transitioning to solid food - it was anxiety ridden, everything tasted terribly and I was perma queasy. It got alot better and by around 12 weeks I was returning to the living. I am unhappy that your surgeon's rules make it even harder. Egg is NOT easy for everybody in the beginning. Most of us had choices and the general rule was to back off and try again a few weeks later if a particular food is a problem. You shouldn't be in a position to eat so infrequently that the volume causes you pain. I was asked to consume 5 mini meals per day which was hard too (trying to separate liquid from solid food!). Eventually I settled on 4x a day as being my comfortable spot. It does get better. I think the blues are normal. You will think this sounds crazy...but I actually felt like it was a bit surreal somehow. Like everything was so different..my mind was blown away by things like Water tasting metallic and hurting my tummy. Hang in there. Sent from my KFJWI using the BariatricPal App
  4. @@CBT on Friday when I met the urologist I had minimal pain, not needing pain meds, he told me 80 percent chance it would pass fine by itself. Also told me I had been through the worst of the pain. The laser blast thing is invasive...sedated, done in a hospital setting so it was a calculated risk to just give it time. He did allow a higher dose of Percaset so I am better now - tho still in pain. It's almost 230 and I ate a few bites of yogurt before feeling pukey so that'd better....didn't brave the IB yet for the day. 5. Haha Kindle, good idea - I am willing to call the vet. He's hot and a kind soul and gives better hugs than any human docs! Not wild about the tubing thing....but am becoming considerably more flexible on the details . Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using the BariatricPal App
  6. I am having a pain flare and can't keep food down. Not fun. Doctor told me we can do the laser bust it up if I get fed up with this....and I am starting to consider it. It has been great to get support from so many - I feel awful whereas a day or ago I was "ok" Did others have bloating and constipation? My normally flat tummy is distended and I have gained alot of weight in a week. I feel pretty gross actually. Since I saw the CT scan images I know things look okay other than inflammation from this - and they could tell I was filled with gas in the images too. Anyway I know this will be ok, but right now I feel like I am dying. I know that is pretty dramatic sounding but I am sure my blood pressure is elevated, I am very queasy and bent over in pain. Running dating experiments...dont worry, nothing negative

Ok, last night went on second date with someone else...dentist. nice man, good conversation but...we just met! Anyway he basically brings up having a standing date every Saturday, how our mid week communication should be etc. All very nice but heck we haven't done more than shake hands so not really feeling the "going steady" just yet. I will say my whole different approach is resulting in different outcomes - but need more time before deciding if it is better. Sent from my KFJWI using the BariatricPal App

    Bypass vs. Sleeve

Thanks @djmohr. I just think it is confusing when things are blended. I Googled this to confirm my understanding. DS and bypass are NOT the same procedure. There are other differences but what is left of the stomach is one of the keys. Call it a pro, call it a con, either way bypass is normally done by stapling off part of the stomach where the DS stage 1 is essentially a larger sleeve. It is understandable that people feel passionate for their own choice, but truthfully most of us only have knowledge of our own surgeries. Our emotional state and feelings about it tend to depend on our results. We notice what we want to . The bypass person notices that many people are revising to bypass, since it is inevitable, why not start there? Incredulously, in years past many new sleevers would announce that everyone with bypass regains but that won't happen since the hunger hormones are gone. It is alot of generalization going on here. Most of us know bypass patients who have regained, heck I have known 1 that died. ... but that is because over the decades there have been way more bypass patients! Same as not all sleeves need to revise...there are many who are doing fine over the longer haul. I have an aqaintance that I was shocked to find had bypass 8-10 years ago as she eats full restaurant meals and is quite overweight. Clearly, regain is possible with either. I still say they are both good procedbures - be educated on the pros and cons as well as relative risks of side effects and make the decision as to what feels right to you. I am happy with sleeve, if I hadn't gotten to goal I would have probably gone for DS. If i have regain I can't manage down the road, I will see what makes the most sense at the time. I am 4 years post sleeve and doing great so far. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using the BariatricPal App
  9. They told me the worst pain is when it moves from kidney to the tube that connects to the bladder. When they did the image it had just entered that tybe. Your experiences does not seem to match that. Now I am having intermittent yet real pain in that lower left quadrant that wraps around my side to my back. Ow it hurts but not bent over vomiting pain like before. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using the BariatricPal App

Running dating experiments...dont worry, nothing negative

Well I think in general, I am not interested in pursuing someone who doesn't like me. That is my number one reason for leaving things be...and let him initiate something. ..or not. I used to be shy and bookish. I had pretty low self esteen. I made friends with someone who told me she thought I was a snob - this was like Jr high but it reminds me that people are very prone to misunderstanding silence. It also occurred to me that the stakes are low... I can speak up and it didn't matter too much what his reply was. I am not sure, but the cooling was definitely rightt after me not being avail Sar night...and happened within minutes of me ignoring a pretty strong sexual innuendo. The bloody eyeball

I have had this happen twice in my life. Not painful but gross looking. Happened to me as a result of violent vomiting episodes due to serious stomach issues. I also had small broken capillaries on my face. It all healed tho. Now that you mention it, surprisingly didn't happen with my recent heaving for hours as a result of the kidney stone pain. Bariatric Realities

I am very aware of these types of difficulties. I personally know of a woman (work colleague ) who went off the rails post bypass weight loss. She died in her sleep of organ failure in her early 40s. I was scared I would die too so I inquiries further to find she was type 1 diabetic and had become not a problem drinker but an alcoholic....a lethal combination. I almost didn't go ahead with WLS because of this. I am glad I didn't imagine this needed to be everyone's fate. I have a friend going g through separation and divorce. She got even skinnier, smoked way more and started drinking booze instead of eating. It happens to non WLS patients too. She is back on track now. Big life stressor can cause outrageous behavior - but it is the minority and help can be found. I just hope people don't avoid life saving surgery on the chance they might be the one that suffers an addiction transference. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using the BariatricPal App

    Bypass vs. Sleeve

I am also confused on a point stated as fact in this thread. The sleeve is not step one to bypass, but to DS. Isn't it true that with bypass they staple off but leave in place the stomach. That is what makes the bypass reversable but not the sleeve. I think they are both good procedures I would just like clearer facts stated too. Perhaps a bypass patient can clarify, don't they leave in the stomach in its entirety, just staple it off from usage? I have no idea why surgeons don't do a better job at steering people to a good choice based on their circumstances. They are both good and I am grateful we have both to choose from Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using the BariatricPal App

I have never had a full indicator...probably one of the reasons I was over 300# ha! Anyway, best advice ever was, "don't seek full, seek absence of hunger" That was a novel idea and great advice. Sent from my KFJWI using the BariatricPal App

    Day surgery

I went to one of the bigger bariatric centers of excellence in my area, and it is often out patient day surgery like mine. The patient can choose to be at the hospital and people over a certain weight are at hospital (equipment weight limit issues). I stayed the night due to my severe sleep apnea, but it was at a surgical center very near a hospital. We all have our biases, but hospitals are uncomfortable for me (too many loved ones have died there) and have sick people in them so this eased my fears. I had help at home and kind of needed it the first few days, but I think day surgery is a good choice for some. I wouldn't do a single thing different about my surgeon, the location, the whole package. I wonder if outcomes vary - is the hospital stay of 2 days is safer based on studies???

    Acid and decision for surgery

I know there are people who's acid was solved with hernia repair. Mine went away with band removal. I am a big sleeve advocate, have had great results but if I had reflux.... I would seriously consider bypass instead Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using the BariatricPal App
  23. I just got back from the urologist - so glad I went as I have peace of mind, understand what to expect and what to do as follow up. Good news is it has been about 24 hours since I was last doubled over in pain. I have an emergency number now in case things go south over the weekend. Later, I will post more details about what I learned as this whole thing is brand new to me!

How was your 5:2 day today?

Well, i did get an appointment with the doc today. At the moment, I am pain free, but i feel weird and gross. I have gained like 8# in a week. Some of it was probably from endless eating, some of it from the IV fluids, some of it from the bloating (my tummy is distended!). i just really need to be back to normal. This probably sounds odd, but it is like I am beginning to feel vulnerable. My self image has been of good health, but i don't feel that way right at this time. I want to return to regular exercise, and an active energetic life. Right now, i feel like a slug. At the moment i am not drugged on pain meds, but I have been the last few days due to the kidney stone. It makes me think of how lucky we are to normally have good health, to not be addicted to drugs that make you feel crappy etc. The contrast is striking. I have it in my mind that as soon as I am past the kidney thing, it is time to step it up in some other areas. I have already been very good about Vitamins, healthy consumption (in general) but I need activity to thrive. I am not depressed but it has become kind of a habit to hang out on the internet and watch netflix instead of living life due to these health issues and i am tired of it.

    WLS and MS

I am not sure I understand your meaning. You are considering the VSG to make it easier on your caregiver? I assume that if you weigh less it is easier for the caregiver? I don't know the medical constraints around MS and Weight loss surgery, but from a motivation point of view, it really works alot better if YOU really want it for yourself. It is not so easy... and during the low times you need that internal motivation, goals and dreams to fall back on.
