Did Anyone Have Gallbladder Removal With Lapband Surgery?
Geminita replied to newskinnygal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I did with my surgery on May 14th. I had asked to get it out early, so my surgeon ordered an abdominal ultrasound that showed gallstones. Actually, he thought my surgery would take a longer bit of time, so he reserved the operating room for three hours. I got the band, plication, big hiatal hernia repair and gallbladder removal. Because I had followed the pre op instructions he said my liver was beautifully small, so the whole thing only took 90 minutes. I don't think my recovery was impacted because of the gallbladder, I was on post op liquids for two weeks because of the plication. Our bodies are amazing creations..but it is interesting what we can do without. I have had appendix, tonsils, adenoids, and gallbladder removed. I am getting a hysterectomy on August 20th. I am feng shui-ing my insides...lol -
Hello All, I've been reading but have not had much time for posting. My surgery was May 14th, and I had my first fill yesterday. My doc says it takes about 4-5 adjustments to get it about right. I'm doing well, down 21 since surgery..and down 69 since I had my first appointment with him on January 4 2012 He recommends liquids for the day of and after a fill. I have to say that I have had no hunger, as I think the plication has really helped during this time. Good luck and best wishes to all ! Nita

Good Luck ! I was most worried about the IV part, too. I'm hard to stick and it is a big ordeal every time I have a colonoscopy, I have them frequently due to Crohns. Anyway, my IV turned out to be no big deal..the surgery center gave me a little stinging numbing shot when they found a vein..and it was a breeze. I hope yours turns out the same !

Hello All, I went for my follow up visit yesterday, knowing I was not going to see my doc, as he is out of the country on a speaking engagement. I, too, am still bloated and stomach swollen. I have not been taking Gas-X, but the staff says that helps alot. We will see. I was down 3lbs since surgery. My next appt is 6/12 with my surgeon, when I will get my first fill. I did have the plication, so I hope that I continue to not be very hungry, if at all. Mostly in the morning when I wake up. All in all, doing pretty good. My port site is tender, all the others are healing really well. I will go back to work after Memorial Day on May 29th. Best wishes to you all ! Nita

Hello Everyone, I can hardly believe it has been a week since surgery. The time has flown by ! I am feeling pretty good..just a little pain in my left side (??) . I was allowed to progress to soft foods yesterday..but have decided to stay with liquids until I visit the doctor tomorrow. I am a bit disappointed in the weight loss this week..just about 3 pounds..considering all that I am not eating..lol I wonder if my liquid Lortab was sugar free...??? Best wishes to all the newbies and prayers and good wishes for all those having surgery today and this week ! Nita

Hello All, Day 7 after surgery for me and I can progress to "Soft Foods". My doctor's plan has always been less than 30g per day of non-vegetable carbs. No breads, pastas, rice. Focus on fish, cheese, cottage cheese, eggs, and egg substitutes. I have been scouring the internet for baked egg recipes. I have selection of ramekins - any where from 3-6 oz and plan to look for recipes that I can use them. A perfect portion size. I still have the opposite of constipation...but doing well otherwise. Good luck and best wishes to all that have surgery next week ! Nita

Good Morning All, Congrats to all the newbies and soon to bees ! Day 6 for me. Feeling good, the achy legs and hips disappeared last night and I slept comfortably on my sides. Yay ! Only slightly bloated. I am having the opposite of constipation..thinking that has something to do with my gallbladder taken out with the banded plication. For those of you that your doctor recommended low carb, high protein, unrestricted fats like mine...I had the most delish coffee breakfast this morning. Added one scoop of Chocolate Splendor Unjury to 8 oz of coffee and a teaspoon of coconut oil..tastes like a Mounds candy bar. Happy Recovery and Best wishes ! Nita

Banded May 14th, and doing well with minimal discomfort. One thing, my legs and hips are achy when I lay down..strange. And I still fell bloated and swollen. How is everyone else doing ? Nita

Hello ! My surgery was May 14th. Banded plication, hernia repair, and gall bladder removal. It was a breeze. So much easier than I expected it to be. Today is Day 4 on my doc's plan. I can have full liquids. I'm still just doing vitamin waters and sugar free popsicles. I did put cream in my coffee this morning. I am not really hungry and my doctor says you really don't need to eat for a week..it will jump start your weight loss and speed healing of the plication. Congrats to all the newbies and best wishes to all the soon to be ! Nita

Hello All, Day 3 for me..I am so happy. I get to put cream in my coffee. I have not been hungry or wanted anything other than a popsicle. I think I felt the most discomfort from that tube down the throat in surgery. I was hoarse and it was hard to talk for a couple days Yesterday, I felt pretty good, but had a minor concern that one of the sites had a little red around it and I felt a bit flushed, however, I did not register a fever. This morning it looks much better and no flush. All the newbies and soon to be bandsters, my thoughts and prayers are with you ! Nita

Congrats, Kathy ! I just had surgery yesterday. It went like a breeze. I had banded plication, hernia repair, and gall bladder removal. My pain and gas is only a little bit uncomfortable. I am taking phenergen and lortab elixir for it. I have to say my surgery center and doc were marvelous. I was most stressed out about the IV, since I am very hard to stick. They gave me a little numbing shot before going in...much ado about nothing. My whole procedure was so much better than I expected..and I feel so much better than expected. Take lots of little walks thru the house. Nita

Prayers for you. You will do great !

Day two for me..feeling a little more sore. I think that is to be expected. My gas issues are not bad at all. I am expected to wear these compression hose until this evening..and I can take a shower. No wound care necessary. The surgery center put all my instructions, etc. in the lap band box. To my surprise, and with no warning..there were laproscopic photos of my surgery there too..eek.

Lap Band With Plication And Gallbladder Removal Scheduled For May 14Th
Geminita posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello Everyone, I've been lurking and reading for quite a while. This forum has been great as I have been going thru the processes for this surgery. I felt it was officially time to introduce myself and say Thank you to everyone for the information, stories, encouragement, and experiences. The time has seemed like forever since I began with my first doctor visit on January 4, 2012, and at the same time..like a flash. My insurance, Aetna, requires three months of supervised counseling. My doc, Robert Cywes, encourages the low carb- high Protein way of eating. He also has a Phd in liver immunology, so I figure he is the expert on how the body metabolizes and processes food. It's been pretty easy for me to follow it..he does not limit fats. Mainly carbs from vegetables, not fruit..and meats. I'm down almost 40 pounds since then. On May 2nd, I have my pre-op visit and will begin the liquid, pre op diet until the surgery on the 14th. I am just trying the Protein shakes now..Yesterday I purchased the unjury sample packs. Looking forward to the journey ! Nita in Jacksonville -
