  1. I have the same incision right below my rib cage. My surgeon said that's the one where he inserts an instrument to hold the liver out of the way. To my surprise I woke up to just two incisions. He decided to do everything else through the one larger incision above my belly button. I was pleased that he is now comfortable with this technique.
  2. My surgery went great and I'm already being discharged. Jesers I hope you had a successful surgery as well! I guess this means we have graduated to the post op board!
  3. My day is tomorrow too! I have to be at the hospital at 7am. Hope I can sleep tonight!
  4. Fingers crossed everybody! My file is being submitted to Aetna today. I already have a surgery date of 1/24. I have my last few pre-op appointments and the two week pre-op shake diet to get through. I have been working really hard at this process so I will be relieved for the 24th to finally be here. The reality of the whole thing still hasn't hit me yet, but as time gets closer I'm sure it will.
  5. Yes!!! They got back to my surgeon's office this Wednesday with an approval, so it took a little over a week. I have read on here some people hear back from Aetna as quickly as 48 hours, so I guess it all depends how busy Aetna is.
  6. I have pre-op on 1/10, medical clearance on 1/16 and surgery on 1/24 also! It's right around the corner!
  7. Congrats! My file was just submitted to insurance today so I am playing the waiting game right now.

    Emotional And Freaking Out

I freaked out a little bit yesterday too. The fact that I wrote out what was going on and posted it on here already made me feel a little better. Great replies will come from others who have already gone through what we are going through now. I am going to try and just relax my mind over the next few weeks with yoga and some other relaxation exercises. Feel proud that you have the surgery in only a few days. I would say do your best to relax your mind so that it will be that much less stressful for you when you get to the hospital. We decided to have this surgery for good reasons, and those reasons still exist. I still catch myself saying I can do it on my own, but then I remind myself how the last 15+ years of trying to do it on my own haven't led to any long-term successes. This will be a great opportunity to actually change my life for the healthier.
  9. My sleeve date is about one month away (1/24/12)! I thought I was mentally prepared for everything, but today I started to feel some anxiety and I feel like the next few weeks are going to get tougher mentally. I am not doubting my decision to have the surgery, I am just starting to get uneasy about the fact that by this time next year I could physically be very different and I don't know what it feels like to be smaller. It's like entering the unknown. I think what set me off was that I never enjoy receiving clothing as a gift, and of course my parents decided to give me this really nice cashmere sweater today. I am a 3X and the sweater is a 2X. I graciously accepted it but my mom could tell I wasn't too into it and replied "Don't worry it's for when you lose weight." Well guess what, this surgery isn't so I can get down to a 2X.....it's to get me down to a more reasonable size such as XL or even L. I didn't say anything but unfortunately I can't return the sweater because they bought it at a going out of business sale a few months back and the store is now closed. It upsets me that they spent money on this sweater and I really have no desire or comfort in wearing it. I don't even know what to do with it now, it's too nice to just give away or donate. I don't know what I am trying to get out of this post, I guess I just needed to vent mostly. How do you mentally prepare yourself though to be comfortable in a smaller body that you aren't familiar with? That right now seems to be my biggest fear!
