Is Sleeve Success Possible Without Exercise?
Capt Derel replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The answer is YES, YES, YES you can lose without exercise. All exercising does is HELP you lose faster and helps fill in the loose skin with added muscle in the long run. Nothing a full tuck cant handle for you. But heres the catch. You must always be aware of what you are eating. You have to keep your diet on point and learn what foods work well with your bodies metabolism. I am from the Lafayette area myself and I know how we love rice and pastas down here. Thats gone out of my life by choice. I have made some major sacrifices because I am almost in the same boat as you. I am stuck on a boat 80% of the time having to stand Radio watch or driving so my exercising is limited big time especially if were offshore. So my reply is Yes please dont let your physical situation hinder the best possible thing that you can do for yourself. From the Heartless Capt -
How Do U Maintain Weight
Capt Derel replied to marie bella1968's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Change up your Carbs, fats, and sodium intake. If your running under 50 carbs per day, spike it to 100grams for a day or 2, if your at 30-35 grams of fats drop it to 10-15 grams, always keep your sodium down to under 1000mg. I change up pretty often just to keep my body guessing. Your bodies in shock and its still losing but not weight wise. Inches are falling off no doubt -
How Do U Maintain Weight
Capt Derel replied to marie bella1968's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey Caradina. I experimented with an ice cream just to see if I could handle it. Well yes I kept it down but I had to go lay down from the sugar rush that it gave me. Made me really dizzy. I dont do high sugars at all since surgery along with all breads, noodles, rice, and so on. My only vice is baked taco salad bowls. -

Does Our B12 Have To Be Sublingual?
Capt Derel replied to EmilyIsSleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vitamin B12: injectable versus oral Vitamin B12 is used therapeutically, both to correct vitamin B12 deficiency and for its apparent pharmacological effects. The vitamin is available in various forms for either oral or parenteral (typically intramuscular) administration. Preparations designed for sublingual or intranasal administration are also available, but they are relatively expensive and there is not much research on their use. There appears to be some confusion among practitioners of natural medicine about whether oral or intramuscular administration is preferable for patients requiring vitamin B12 therapy. For the treatment of pernicious anemia, either method of treatment is acceptable. Although oral treatment is not common in the United States, as many as 40% of patients in Sweden with pernicious anemia are treated orally. Despite their lack of intrinsic factor and gastric hydrochloric acid, patients with pernicious anemia are capable of absorbing an average of 1.2% of an orally administered dose of cyanocobalamin._1 An oral dose of 100-250 mcg/day will maintain adequate serum vitamin B12 levels in most patients with pernicious anemia, although some patients may require as much as 1,000 mcg/day. Therefore, patients with pernicious anemia who are being treated with oral vitamin B12 are generally advised to take 1,000 mcg/day. For those with newly diagnosed pernicious anemia, some doctors recommend an oral dose of 2,000 mcg/day (or injections) during the first month, in order to replenish body stores. A year’s supply of 1,000-mcg vitamin B12 tablets costs under 20, which is less than the cost of going to the doctor’s office at least four times a year for injections. On the other hand, patients who are likely to be noncompliant with oral therapy should be seen regularly by a doctor and treated with intramuscular injections. When vitamin B12 is being used for its pharmacological effects, as in the treatment of fatigue, Bell’s palsy, diabetic neuropathy, subdeltoid bursitis, or asthma, intramuscular injections appear to be preferable to oral administration. Although there is little published research in this area, clinical observations suggest that orally administered vitamin B12 is not particularly effective against these conditions. It appears that supraphysiological serum concentrations are usually needed for vitamin B12 to exert its pharmacological effects, and that these serum concentrations can be achieved only with parenteral administration. Some writers have argued that vitamin B12 injections are unnecessary, citing a study that claimed oral vitamin B12 (2,000 mcg/day) produces higher serum vitamin B12 levels than intramuscular injections.2_ However, in that study, the serum concentrations were measured one month after the last intramuscular injection was given, whereas the oral doses were being taken daily during that time. Interestingly, although this study was published in a specialty journal (Blood), it contained the following disclaimer: “The publication costs of this article were defrayed in part by page charge payment. This article must therefore be hereby marked ‘advertisement’ in accordance with 18 U.S.C. section 1734 solely to indicate this fact.” Although the study did confirm that oral vitamin B12 is effective for the treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency (including pernicious anemia), it did not compare oral and intramuscular administration with respect to their short-term (1-7 days) effects on serum levels. Consequently, this study cannot be used to justify the claim that oral vitamin B12 produces the same pharmacological effect as does intramuscular vitamin B12. In summary, experimental and clinical evidence indicate that either oral or parenteral therapy can be used effectively for the treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency. However, when vitamin B12 is being used for its pharmacological effects, in the vast majority of cases only parenteral administration appears to be effective. Thats just a quick search on google. Sublingual is better than orals but not better than injectables in most cases. Sublingual/nasal like injectables bypass the liver by absorbing directly by the blood vessels close to the skin so you get a greater use of whatever your administering. -
How Do U Maintain Weight
Capt Derel replied to marie bella1968's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
A simple thing like adding a Hawaiian punch or 2. I know someone that eats Cheezits and other kinds of carbs to help maintain. So from what I have gathered so far is really just adding some carbs in to maintain. Simple as that. That guy that was with me in Tijuana when I went get sleeved always had cheezits and ate nachos, sandwiches and so much more. He was 8 months out and @ 180lbs. He looked good. He said he got down more but he decided to put on a few cause he was really looking thin. He helped me alot. Made an impression on me which gave me drive. -

Sorry for the late reply. I was offshore first thing this morning. I walked up to the desk clerk and asked if I could board first due to surgery and they fixed me up with a good seat by the window -
This is mine at 209lbs. BMI is crazy and I dont even worry about it. Its based off of Crackhead skinny people with no muscle. I would like to know how they gathered this info to create the BMI index. Imho it just doesnt seem accurate.

I recommend a book called "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" by Tom Venuto if you'd like to know more. As we age, WE LOSE MUSCLE IF WE DON'T DILIGENTLY EXERCISE. Muscle not only burns fat and will help you excel in your journey to maintenance but it simply looks much better on your body. I CAN ATTEST!!! We definitely lose muscle and get weaker. Exercise combats this but we put the body in a catabolic state to where it eats the muscle first before the fat. Thats why we need a high Protein diet to tag along with it. At my highest weight of 329lbs, my son and I did a pushup contest because he said I bet you cant do more than me. Hahaha I said. My GF said she didnt believe that I could beat him. So I had to prove them wrong. Keep in mind @ 329lbs I did a whopping 20 straight pushups till I was completely burnt. My son only did 16 straight lol. I guess they didnt think I had it in me. The kicker: As of Today @ 209lbs I can barely do 10 straight. And this is only 10 months after this competition. Hmmm so are we catabolic? Hell yeah. Can we stop muscle wasting? NO WE CANT. Can we slow it down? Yes but very little unless you take HRT. So in retrospec our beginning BMI and bodyfat composition goes clean out the window because its going to change throughout this process. All you can do is be mindfull and combat muscle wasting the whole time. Every lb of muscle burns 50 extra calories per day which equals to a lb of fat every 8-9 days +/-. Good chat

Well so far in 6 months I lost 120 exactly. I really havent exercised like many of you can but I do what I can with what I got and where I am at. So if this is only 6 months, what about the next few years. I can say this "you will lose more than you will ever think so dont shoot yourself in the foot thinking that way"

Lets Get Everyone Yo Do A Weigh In!

Reevaluate exactly what your been eating then change the spectrum for 3 days to motivate your system. People forget the human body has the amazing ability to ADAPT. You have to keep it guessing. I am sitting here right now in the middle of this Hurricane watching 2012 on a boat getting pounded with rain eating a cup of dry cheerios because I stalled for 5 days lol. But I know next week I will drop some pounds lol -

Well I can vouch for 2-3 spoonfuls of whatever is all your going to get in for many months. I get tired of eating cause its w a waste of time. Just when its getting good you gotta stop before you visit the bathroom to regurgitate. But so far 120lb loss since Feb. Zero complications except for Gall bladder issues but thats not from Almanza thats just natural due to weightloss. My top incision was the first to heal up also. Next was my side. The longest one was the incision with the drain tube. It was awesome. But anyways. Its going to be a life changing experience. Would I have chose another doctor...hmm nope. Thats why I am bringing someone else next fall after they finish with college and getting a man lift if I need it. -

I have been finding my sweetspot for my personal body chemistry. Trust me I manipulate it alot to find what works Keep in mind your body adjusts to changing elements so constant manipulation to counter the adaptation must occur. Fats... I will not go higher than 30grams...NEVER It triggers gall bladder attacks in me. Protein: I shoot for the sky cause I am MAN lol Seriously though 60+ everyday Carbs: I try not to have any. Its almost impossible not to have any so I keep it as low as possible. When I do have them its from fruits and veges So with that in mind stay in a range of 50-100grams but closer to 50. Keep an eye on Sodium also. Anything higher than 1200grams stalls me for 2 days. B12 injectables have stimulated weightloss activity in the cells. I wasnt seeing that before with the sublingual liquid. Drinking Water first thing in the am helps me out I find rather than a Protein shake. I feel better also. One last thing try not to eat before you goto bed. Sometimes I have to but I have learned just to skip it. It affected me the next morning. Dark chocolate is a key ingredient I have been messing with. I hate dark chocolate but it has jump started me out of a stall more than once
