Capt Derel's Gastric Sleeve Surgery Journey
Capt Derel replied to Capt Derel's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Today is June 9th,2012. I have been lifting weights now for 20 days. I am at 250lbs today. Its kind of discouraging to see numbers climb but it has nothing to do with gaining fat. Diet is still on point minus a sodium mishap yesterday. My arms, forearms, neck, shoulders, traps, delts, hams and quads are getting solid once again. I can feel muscle fibers through the skin which is real different from pre op "meaning my bf% is still dropping but I am gaining back muscle mass".. I am dropping carbs to under 30grams a day for 3 more weeks to see how this plays out. -
Gallbladder Surgery
Capt Derel replied to bethany1987's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had kidney stones twice in 2006. Very very painful. They did a amplified soundwave pulse treatment. Its called something like lithotripsy which breaks down the stones making them small enough to pass. I just dont want that big 6 inch scar. But if it comes down to it I will have it removed. -

My thing is I am 40lbs to goal. I never had issues before. I did notice it only happens when I make significant drops in weight. I am trying to hold out cause I am so close. Hopefully everything goes back to normal when I reach that area. I did schedule an appointment for some meds though. I appreciate you coming up Beth. I been sitting here thinking I couldnt eat chicken hahaha -

Thank you so much. You have described exactly what I had 2x so far. I thought it was from me eating something wrong. If this happens more for me I will have it looked at. I feel your pain. Literally -

Beth what does an attack feel like? -
Well first off your going to lose alot of muscle weight first. I tried to combat it but it just didnt work. I am a mesomorph thank god. I was sleeved Feb 17,2012. I started at 329 and holding at the 245-48 mark. I recently reintroduced weightlifting and creatine and a few other supplements. I do have a weight training background which unfortunately was one of my aids to gaining all the weight in the first place after I got hurt and had to quit to recover. Right before I started working out again. My wife did a skin pull on specific areas of my body. Even she was amazed at how soft and how much extra skin that I had. This skin pull was measured and wrote down. I am at work offshore so I dont have a clue what they were. But since I started working out again I have noticed 1. Water retention due to supplements and cortisol levels high from repairing damaged muscle tissue "expected". 2. Skin is starting to tighten up especially on arms, forearms, calves, quads, hams, and shoulders. I wont know more till I get home in 2 more weeks. Now as far as the waist and stomach. I am anticipating having to go do a total body lift/tuck. But I will give it time to see whats going to happen before I act. Keep in mind I am only 32 years old so my skin should bounce back some hopefully. On another note I did meet a guy 7 months out who was same size as me before. Looked identical to me except his skin pigmentation. His skin bounced back and he was 50 years old. So all you can really do is hope for the best. Hope this gives you alittle insight.

I have a Resmed auto vpap 25. I paid around that too. My insurance wanted me to rent it for $500 bucks a month for 5 months then they wanted me to pay the copay to purchase it. I asked them if they thought just cause I was from louisiana that they thought I was crazy. Its not logical to pay over 2500bucks for a 1600 dollar machine. I said that I will just pay cash thank you LoL
-
I paid the same $800 with cigna. I have had 2 sleep studies and a wakefulness maintenance test which entails staying up for 8 hrs in a lazyboy with no tv, watch, clock, or anything to keep you occupied. Also in a very coooold room with the lights really dim. Luckily I am not one of those kinds of people that sleep all the time. I know that I have to go take one more sleep study in order to get off the machine. I been on it for 3 years and it has maybe 20hrs use total lol.

Yep your right. I just talked to my wife and she said it was the golds gym 410 that I bought. We tried the 310 at the store so we bought the 410 for a little bit more. I went to walmart.com and took these pics. But now I just need a squat rack to complete my mini gym. I have a bowflex xtreme 2, a TKO roman chair for back extensions, and the most wonderful ingenious little cheap $20 machine the Ab machine from walmart. Theres not much more that I need now lol

I have had a 4lb weight gain from starting to lift weights and supplemental water weight gain but its starting to come off now. Thank god. Still to this day I am never hungry. God blessed me lol. Yes I am gonna win. Capacity is equal to 3 tablespoons max Foods not tolerated are switching up constantly except for chicken and eggs <-just cant eat them Overall I feel good, no problems, and I feel like I never had a surgery at all. I just take it a day at a time knowing that this was the best thing in my life that I could have done for myself. I am glad all of yall are doing good and feel good. May we all reach our goal and then some. Capt D -

I bought one 2 days before I came back to work. I have 3 more weeks to go before I get my butt kicked on mine. It really wasnt to bad of a price. I paid $360 bucks with a 10% off card at walmart for a gold gym model. Its pretty stout of a machine for the price. Its assembled n ready to go. I cant wait.

I still consider myself a newbie lol. But I look at this from a scientific perspective. I dont mind trying different approaches because I know that I will rock this sleeve. I figure the more information that is out there the better we will all be in the long run. -

Today is May 27th, 2012. 7 days ago I was at 245lbs. I reintroduced Creatine monohydrate into my diet to combat muscle catabolism. Within 1 day I have packed on 3 lbs of Water weight. 5 days ago I reintroduced weight training. My training is NOT catabolic training but is anabolic. Its been since 2006 the last time I trained at this intensity. In 2006 I got hurt "tore severe skeletal muscle on the entire upper back" and stopped training in order to recouporate. Today I am still at 248lbs. My body feels like I am losing weight "which I know it is cause I recognise the sensation". I dont plan on seeing any weightloss "scalewise" the next couple of weeks to be honest ,but I will see an improvement on the saggy skin on my arms and legs lol. My diet will not be changed in any way. Still High Protein, Max carb 75g, Max fat 35g. Will be adding Forskolin to my added vitamin/ mineral mix as soon as I can get around to ordering it. Cant wait to see the progress. I have a 15 year reunion coming up in september lol -
Best bang for the buck. Now as soon as my wife is sleeved too my grocery bill will have a collapse lol. Cant wait. Would I do it again. Umm yeah.

Sound Off On Post Op Appetite

13 weeks out. Not hungry but crave snowcones all the time. I really dont care about food. Protein shake in the AM and water n snowcones the rest unless I feel like something else. Haha popscicles. Sorry. Food isnt ever on my mind. Cheese and those sinsational tuna in the cans do the trick for me. I force myself to eat 3x a day. -
I sleep on my sides. I used to sleep on my stomach preop but now its very uncomfortable. It may lie in my head for self protection in order not to injure my stomach in my sleep. The mind is a strange thing lol. But as far as sleeping on the sides I dont have a bit of trouble
-
Wow I just watched how they do the plication. Why did you do that over the sleeve? Do you get hungry? To me it looks pretty dangerous by increasing the chances of something getting stuck due to the way the stomach is stitched inward. Keep us upto date with your journey.

1000-1400 Cal/day At 3 Months Post Op
Capt Derel replied to windycitymom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Doc just tells me I do a good job and keep up the good work. I rely on my body to tell me whats right. If Protein shakes and sf hawaiian punch snow cones do it then thats what I do. If I feel good enough to experiment then I give it a shot and see how my body responds. But this is coming from someone that has no hunger. Do you get hungry? -

Unsweet tea is my new favorite too. I drink about 2-3 20 oz containers ( or mediums) a day lol. It goes down so smooth. I wish Water went down like tea does for me.
