    Day 4 Of 180

So I am on day 4 of 180 ... of my supervised diet. My friend asked me exactly what is the "supervised" part ..I told her once a month I have to see my food-probation officer!!! LOL Well anyhow .. I am doing good, very proud of myself!! The first 2 days I had "minor" slip-ups, but yesterday I did EXCELLENT and today I intend to do even better!!! I am so thankful for having a supportive fiance, family and even my coworkers are being very supportive!! Thats definitely what I need to help keep me in the right mindset. Ive even been able to walk thru the junk food aisle at the store and keep focused on going straight thru, no stopping!!

    6 Months .. 20 Lbs

I have to lose 20 pounds in my 6 month supervised diet. I know I can do it and I am ready to make some positive changes! Starting my road to success TODAY!!!
  7. Well today I had my consult with Dr. Von Rueden and his team. Everyone on his team is awesome! HOWEVER, I have very mix emotions about him. Everyone I've talked to say he is an excellent surgeon, and he is rated one of the top bariatric surgeons atleast around here. But when we met with him, he was not very personable, and just gave of negative vibes to me. It was something about the way he talked to me and looked at me, not sure how to explain it but I didnt feel comfortable with him like I felt meeting the rest of his team. I am not sure how to take this. Do I look for a different surgeon? Is it just a misconception on my part b/c of personality differences?? I am not sure how to really deal with my "feeling" about him ... any advice or similar experience and how you dealt with it would be greatly appreciated!! My thoughts are I could change surgeons? ... Or stick with him .. I mean I am mostly going to deal with the dietician, nurse, and other people apart of his team MORE OFTEN than him. It sounds like unless theres really any issue I wont see him again until right before surgery, during and then post-op and for fills. On another note, I am so PROUD of myself for going to the consult, REALLY getting this started and can't wait to see where this journey takes me!

Consult With Surgeon - Not So Happy With Him - Help!?

Thats what it kind of seems like. It was like he was beating around the bush about it but didnt wanna come right out and say he prefers it. Tough stuff for him because I dont feel that is the best choice for myself. Despite people I know who have had the gastric and had a great outcome, etc. I still don't feel it is for me. And I am pretty set in that decision ... its been something I have thought about and researched for the last 3 years.

Consult With Surgeon - Not So Happy With Him - Help!?

To be alittle more descriptive of Dr's "actions" I didnt care for .. he came in, introduced his self again, and first thing was do you have any questions? ..my thoughts were .. once we start discussing i could ask as we go, considering he may answer my questions in discussion .. when i did ask questions he looked at me and responded in ways as if i shouldve already known the answers and was inconviencing him. the whole time it felt like i was suppose to be leading the consult. he had a model of stomach and the lapband and realize band .. explained the procedure again, didnt really say much i had to ask the difference between the two, asked the pros and cons, he was very short with all his answers to any of my questions .. seemed negative about the lapband in results as if its not going to really help my health issues caused by my weight .. etc.

6 Month Diet Examples Or Tips

Thanks, yes i have heard that you could get disqualfied if you lose too much as well. I have blue cross blue shield thru state of MD .. theyre pretty good, but they told me i need the 6month thing....however, thats not with them submitting information about my other health conditions due to my weight, hopefully ill get lucky and it will get pushed thru sooner than 6 months!! i cannot wait to start my NEW LIFE!!!!
  11. I agree with the above comments as well !! Get yourself back on track ... set short term, realistic goals for yourself each week. Start journaling your food intake again. When you reach for something you know isnt a good choice in food, ask yourself if you eat that, will it make you feel guilty, sad/depressed --use that to motivate yourself to say NO and go for the better option snack/food. And like Cazzy said, you are not a failure!! you just need support !!! thats why we are all here!!! good luck

    A Little Stressed

I agree with JuniorGuru. Getting the lapband the one main thing they tell you is that it is GRADUAL weight loss, your body will lose the weight at a slower rate than other gastric surgery options. And you should DEFINITELY take your measurements. www.lapband.com you can sign up and track your entire lapband journey, you can enter in your weight everyday, and it tracks all your measurements!! Like JuniorGuru said, when you exercise you build muscle, your body may be burning fat and gaining muscle mass at the same time. Muscle weighs more than fat. Keep up the great work, you WILL see progress!!! Goodluck!!

    My Head

My mother in-law had gastric bypass, she went from a size 22 down to a size 8. It will be 3 years in February since her surgery. She STILL goes to the plus size racks when we go shopping ... then when she does go to misses .. shes trying to grab size 12 or 10 and I have to keep saying you are not that big!! She told me that she still sees herself as bigger than she is. She's 57, so you figure ALL those years of being heavy ... its hard to let go of that mentality in such a short time. Your body AND your mind was programmed to a certain weight that you had been. And i think when she goes shopping, and goes to the plus size, its also out of habit !! And if you try clothes on and they are still big/baggy on you ... go get the next size lower until you get the right fit !! Good luck!! and when you pick up the wrong size .. just laugh it off and look in the mirror at the progress you made and be proud!!

    Starting This Journey!

I have chosen to have the lap and surgery after 2 years of contemplating it. I don't know if I was scared or just not ready to change myself. At the highest weight I've ever been, 315lbs., type 2 diabetes since 2007, high blood pressure since 2008, and PCOS since 2007, I HAVE to make a change. I'm only 24 years old and I have my whole life ahead of me, I don't want to lose my life because I didn't get myself healthy. My fiance is unsure of the way my surgery will affect our relationship, and I have pushed our wedding back another year so I can lose as much weight as I can before the wedding. I am worried about my willpower in the long run of this decision. I just hope I can keep myself strong and stick to the right way to eat.

    Gasrto Or Lapband??

definitely go to a bariatric seminar, they discuss gastric bypass, gastric sleeve and lapband. they talk about the disadvantages and advantages and compare the results between the three. after a couple years of research and alot of thought, i have chosen to get the lap band. To me there alot more risks and disadvantages with the gastric bypass and I just felt the better choice was the lap-band. But that is my personal opinion for myself. Go to www.lapband.com you can locate and register for a seminar in your area. However, I would advise calling after you register and verify the seminar date, time and location, my first try I went to the seminar I registered for and there was no seminar that night--was some kind of mixup. Good luck!!
