Getting In All Your Liquids?
Dooter replied to brandymarie81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The whole first week, I kept setting up those little medicine cups they gave me and kept them full, then I'd knock em back and mark off my little fluid chart they gave me. I wasn't perfect about it, but it kept some fluids going in. Walk and drink, walk and drink. Are you walking??? Do your walking!! It really really helps a variety of things. It speeds the healing, truly. -
I May Have A Problem..
Dooter replied to bigdon2823's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 24 days out and I was feeling the same way for a while. Last night I had some blended up version of the dinner i served my family: 1/4 c mashed potatoes, 1 oz. roast blended with the juice it cooked in, and a couple tsp. of blended green beans. I ate it all (maybe 3 or 4 oz?). I was surprised. I thought something must be wrong. THEN...today....I made some egg salad and put 1/4 cup in my little bowl. I only ate HALF of that and suddenly I was painfully full!! After an eighth of a cup. I think it has to do with WHAT you're eating as to whether you will feel full and after how much. Some stuff just goes right through, and some hangs around and makes you full. Test out some different foods. Use proteins to see how much really makes you full. -
Dr. Kim uses an endoscope to visualize the inside of the stomach during the surgery, and he also uses it to size the stomach and it is comparable to a 34. Pretty small.

Am I Allowed To Post If I Haven't Seen The Surgeon Yet?
Dooter replied to crossedpaws's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Every pre op diet is different, but I was on liquids for 2 weeks prior because my BMI was 54. I've heard of a lot of people on here with a 2 week pre op liquid diet. It all depends on the BMI. -

What Am I Throwing Up?

Good to hear! Hope it's an isolated incident. :s -
THAT is laaaame!!! I can't believe that!! Aleve is actually on a list of meds I'm never to take again (along with ibuprofen and the like..), because it can cause ulcers. :s

Yup. Liquid vicodin. It worked really well for me, as I had a hernia repair which gave me a lot of pain for two solid weeks. I used 2 whole bottles. Actually I have about a dose or two left in the bottle. I was not shy about taking it when I could. There's a reason they give you a refill. Everyone reacts differently though.

Sleeved Yesterday And Sick :-(
Dooter replied to jwelk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I threw up 4 times in the first 24 hours and it freaked me out! I caught my surgeon in the hallway and he assured me I did not rupture anything. Once I was able to have liquids (after the leak test) I finally stopped. Still was nauseated though. They gave me anti nausea meds in my i.v. which helped. -

HAHAHAHA!!! I thought you just REALLY hated pepto bismol!! -
That's funny you mention "saggy butt." I told my husband the other day "hey honey...grab my butt with both hands and give it a good shake! IT'S LOOSER!! And emptier!" We had a good laugh, but I can see the need for getting the toning up started as soon as i'm clear for full activity. OYE! This is going to be a looooong road!!

Am I Allowed To Post If I Haven't Seen The Surgeon Yet?
Dooter replied to crossedpaws's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well i'm sure you've gotten the idea by now that OF COURSE you can post before seeing the surgeon!! This forum has been infinitely helpful to me before, during and after this whole process. WELCOME! -
I was on a TOTAL emotional roller coaster up until surgery. I'd say that started a couple weeks before. I was praying like my life depended on it! I also went to Dallas with my mom and boys for the surgery, as my husband was not able to come because of work, so that made it 10 times worse. After it was done, I was fine. But yes. Normal indeed!

Feb Sleevers-What Are You Eating?
Dooter replied to Ms. Scarlett's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Jerry, I think that is a VERY normal occurrence for us to have the emotional roller coaster effect after this surgery. I read about it in the packet I was given from the surgeon and in other places. Women get a double dose because the weight loss is kicking all the sleeping hormones back into play. I don't know how men and hormones work, but there could be some of that too. It IS an emotional time for all of us, and it's important to get support for yourself during this time. If your surgery was in the U.S., does your surgeon have a support group? Please seek some kind of local support, even if it's going to see your regular doctor. Please let go of the "guilty" thing. We're past that. This is a NEW life!! If you're only taking in that many calories, there's no need to worry. In fact, you may need a few more! You don't want to kill your metabolism by letting your body slip into starvation mode. Also, exercise is a good combatant for the blues. Hard to do when you feel down, but force yourself to do it. I hope any of this is a help. --danielle -
Hey good job!! Your awake enough to send an update! I couldn't focus that whole first day. Just sleep and walk. I pray a speedy recovery for you!

Hey, don't get discouraged, you're doing great! Change up your exercise and eating to get your metabolism back in gear. You might just need a little push to get things moving again. Have either of you tried the Isopure clear protein drinks? They're not the best tasting things in the world, but it IS a way to get protein in when you're on clears or little else. You can get them at GNC one at a time to try them. If you like them, you can order them online cheaper.

When in doubt...go with what YOUR doctor says. It's hard, but it does go by quickly. If you DO go with soups, don't blend them. Just strain out the chunky stuff and toss it. If you blend it, that's a faster progression than what you might should have right now. Save the blender for a later phase...
