Wls 2/13. Scale Isn't Moving:(
Dooter replied to teambrown4's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
2/13 here also. If you're doing it right, it WILL catch up. It has to. It's mathematically impossible for it NOT to. I've stalled out for a few days here, but plateaus happen. Then the drop. It's coming, don't worry. WE CAN DO THIS!!!! -
Sounds like you're doing great! (the coffee detox is NO fun!! )

Insomnia! Perhaps A Solution Found With 5-Htp - Long!
Dooter replied to Rootman's topic in The Lounge
5-HTP was recommended to me for my son who has some learning issues. I put him on a supplement regimen and this was included. It was particularly included for rages, temper issues, night terrors, nightmares, and difficulty sleeping, anxiety and sensory input issues. I have to say, when he takes it, he's a different kid. And he seems to be better rested. So, NO, it's not all in your head. It is an immediate precursor to Seratonin in the brain. Seratonin is very important for sleep and other regular functioning. Do not take it if you are on any anti depressants or Ritalin. -
Has Anyone Had A Bariatric Surgeon Refuse To See You?
Dooter replied to babybig's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard that even if your surgery is in the U.S., it's hard to get another surgeon to take you on for follow ups. My surgery was in Dallas, and I live in Albuquerque, so I'm using my PCP for followups, and he is keeping in contact with my surgeon. Just the nature of the lawsuit-hungry society we live in. That said...when they refuse you, they don't have to be jerks about it. -
Mott's for Tot's low sugar apple juice is a winner too! (just don't guzzle it or anything!

Yea, it is a little icky. My husband says the aftertaste is like dog food. I agree, the EAS is the most palatable I've found so far. I like the chocolate. Syntha 6 powder is REALLY tasty too. the calories and carbs are a little higher, but ok for someone who can't meet daily requirements of anything.

When is your surgery? How are you feeling? Who's your doc? My surgery date is 2/13/12 and I fluctuate from ready to go, to really nervous. I'm traveling to Texas to Dr. David Kim. Anyone else using him? :welcome:

I'm 25 days out and just BARELY started blenderized, mushy food. It may have been way too soon to be eating something that solid. Some meats are hard to tolerate so early. And don't worry. This won't be your last "OOPS". Heehee. the early phases of liquid and mushy food is for quality of healing. You'll be fine if you stick with whatever plan your doc prescribed.

Tips/ideas/ Motivation To Lose The Last 10Lbs
Dooter replied to FishingNurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All of your cells hold on to water when they perceive a deficit of fluids, or fighting some kind of toxins or excess salt. When you're losing weight, your cells release the toxins and fat and it's all swimming around in your system and your kidneys and liver have to deal with it all, and drinking lots and lots of water is like getting a garden hose and washing out your dumpster. All that muck that's being released needs to be swept out and that helps the pounds come off. It's kind of a disjointed, non-technical way to explain it, but that's the best i've got at the moment... -
Good, good, that should help. THREE MILES?! That's awesome!!!

Can I Just Live Off Muscle Milk Light Please?! =)
Dooter replied to AllForMy4's topic in Food and Nutrition
It's funny you mention this. Last night I was drinking a MML vanilla and NOT enjoying it, so I thought "hmmm...I wonder how it would taste if I put some starbucks instant coffee in one of them??" That would surely bury the flavor! Anyone tried this? -
You CAN take cold medicines. Avoid ibuprofen, aspirin and Aleve. You can also take sugar free cough medicines, and cough drops- sugar free also. All tylenol pain reliever and Tylenol cold medicines are good.

Getting In All Your Liquids?
Dooter replied to brandymarie81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't either. But my intentions truly are good!! -
Ya, I had a hernia repair with my sleeve and the hernia caused the most pain of any I had. I took the pain meds for exactly 2 weeks, then it just....stopped. I went through both bottles. It's all normal stuff. I also had the dry heaves the first 24 hours after surgery. I would fall asleep, and a bunch of gunk would collect in my throat, so when I woke up, it'd make me hurl. (no liquids until leak test the next morning!! ) After the liquids came, I stopped. The doc assured me i didn't bust anything throwing up.

Bowels Not Moving But No Discomfort

I have a little Mott's For Tot's (low sugar) apple juice in the morning. Seems to keep things....going.... -
I think we experience a variety of weird feelings the first week that are all fairly normal. Did they give you one of those incentive spirometers to keep your lungs clear? That's important to use for the first week. Try to walk a little once an hour if you can. The more you walk the faster you start to feel better. It seems counterintuitive at times, but it's totally true. And keep up on your fluids. 4 oz/hour if you can. Welcome to your new life!

Did You Have A "drain" Post-Op?
Dooter replied to AngieG0410's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have a drain, but in my paperwork it was explained that it IS a possibility, but it would be for your safety and healing. I was Soooooo glad I didn't have one though! Some surgeons do it just as a matter of course. Mine only does it when necessary, which doesn't seem that it's too often. -
Wrote The Last Check, Started Liquid Diet - It's Real Now!
Dooter replied to JayhawkJess33's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There is a helpful post pinned in the pre op section that is all about what to take and everyone throwing in suggestions of what helped and what was a waste of space. Check it out! I didn't use a LOT of stuff I took. I only took one backpack full of stuff, but was too sleepy the whole first day to care about anything. Everyone's different though. -
Yep, they gave me zyrtec in the hospital because the post nasal drip was makin' me yarg!

Charlotte is VERY wise indeed!! Your doc did not present the option of getting a new knee? My mom got both done and is like a new person. Is that an option for you? Also, go to swimsuits just for us.com. they have really cute suits on there. I got one that almost goes down to my knees, and I wore it at 335 on a cruise! I just PUT it all out there, ya baby! I pray you find peace in your situation.

Yes!! You are TOTALLY detoxing! It was rough. I remember day nine having a total meltdown, then--day ten came, and I just didn't care anymore. Haven't had a problem since. (surgery was 24 days ago.)
