Forum Is So Helpful
Dooter replied to gettinthinner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's great!! I still think you're doing well, but it's good that you have that attitude, because that will keep you on track the rest of your life. Even when the weight is gone you will have to have this same mindset. Good for you!! God bless your journey! -
I think I'm down. I'm just not sure anymore. I weigh myself at the YMCA with their "good scale" (the one with the weight blocks that you move up and down.) according to it, i've lost about 10 lbs in the last two weeks. HOWEVER- my scale hasn't budged an ounce. I think it's broken. (it's a mechanical dial scale) So yesterday I went to Costco and bout a weight watchers digital scale. I'm so confused. All I know is I weigh about as much as a baby rhino. LOL

When I scheduled my surgery, I immediately gained 10 lbs!!! Not on purpose of course.

We expect a full report!! (everyone wants to know what's good in protein land!) -
I know, right??? I couldn't figure out WHAT I was feeling for the longest time!! It was really weird. Am I hungry? Am I full? What the heck?? Button tuck should straighten out. I had one that the skin was higher on one side of the incision than the other. Like a bubble. It flattened out though. I think....lemme look.......YEP! TOtally evened out.

Don't wait for something to go wrong!!!! You're doing great!!! Didn't you postpose because you were moving? Or am I thinking of someone else? Or did you postpone for another reason? I don't remember...

My Post Op Diet Seems Less Strict Than Most Others
Dooter replied to Squisha's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Dr. Kim is the best! Don't go. Just bear out the liquid diet. I've tried many many Proteins already, and I'm here to tell you, Bari Essentials is NOT bad in comparison to some of the wretch I've tried since surgery!! He does that because he wants a level playing field and a consistent outcome. The liquid is not only to shrink the liver, but to clean out the digestive tract before surgery. With the Bari Essentials you are getting COMPLETE nutrition. Your body wants for nothing! I felt great while doing it. I had to battle my head talking to me of course, but my body did super. He did a great job on my surgery, and I've not had ONE complication, have not thrown up, or felt bad or ANYthing. Don't give up on him because of pre op. Oh, and the vanilla is better than the chocolate...FYI. You can add stuff to it (sugar free Jello and flavorings and such.) -
I'd say you have plenty of reasons to be emotional right now!!! I was a wreck for a couple weeks before surgery, and that's all I had going on, so I can imagine... yikes. Good news is...it seems if your a mess before, there's a chance you'll level out after. I did. I hope you do too!

Bananas? Good Or Bad?
Dooter replied to gettinthinner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, honey, don't compare yourself to anyone else. I lost all that right at the beginning, and I've been stalled ever since, but I started out at a very high BMI (55), so I am supposed to lose more at first kind of quickly. (Statistically speaking.) I have also been going to the gym regularly since long before the surgery, and am trying to be even better about it. I think you are doing just fine. Have your half of a banana, and if you are living a fairly normal life and still losing weight (even if it's not as quickly as you might expect), and not counting anything, then don't fix it. Of course, they do want us to at least do some walking every day if possible. Just start small. You keep it up!! Good job!! -
Some people have problems with plain water even a few months after surgery, and that's normal, but it does go away. I'm just getting to where it's enjoyable to drink water again, and I'm at....almost 7 weeks.

Is This A Good Price?
Dooter replied to Liberated Sleeve's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
unjury sells unflavored Protein powder that a lot of people do well with. Maybe that's what you saw. They also sell a chicken broth flavored Protein Powder that works well when it's hard to choke down a thick chocolate or vanilla shake. It's mostly like sipping chicken broth, and it's got 20 grams per scoop. -
HAHAHA!! Yes. My poor husband gets the brunt of all my blathering about life before, during and after surgery. I have elected to only tell close family and 3 friends. SO...you can imagine, he gets all the 24/7 "blah blah blah blah BLAH" about every hiccup, gurgle, bite I take and ounce I lose!

6 Week Post Op Symptoms?
Dooter replied to Meredit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do not recognize any of these symptoms. Have you taken your temperature? Does your surgeon have an answering service that will get someone to give you a call tonight?? -
Calling All Experienced Sleevers
Dooter replied to Tattoodmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One good way to get protein in if you can't stomach a lot of food yet: Unjury chicken broth flavored protein. Have a couple cups of that each day and you'll be doing pretty well adding in what you CAN eat. It's not bad at all. It's about 20 or 21 grams per scoop in 8 oz of water. OH! and that would count toward your liquid intake! -
Perhaps A Disgusting Topic But Advice Always Appreciated
Dooter replied to gettinthinner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wear a watch and after you swallow, wait at least a full minute before you take another bite. At least until you get used to your timing. Another good thing to do is use a baby spoon and fork set. Helps you take smaller bites. p.s.... you live in my FAVORITE place on earth! -
Bananas? Good Or Bad?
Dooter replied to gettinthinner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No fruit is inherently "bad." It's fruit. It's perfect food. Here's the big "BUT"- (don't we all have a big but?? hahaha) Some fruits have more sugars or starches than others and bananas are one of them. It depends on your goals for your diet. Some people count mostly carbs and would want to stay away from bananas. Some people are more concerned with fat, in which case, bananas are fat free. Some count calories, and some count all three! Look up the nutritional values for bananas and see how much of one fits in with what you are trying to do. I know that's not a clear answer, but I don't know what you're counting. Side note about bananas: If there is even a tiny bit of green on the stem, then the banana is still pure starch. It's like eating a potato. When it's all yellow then it's turned to fruit sugars. Just FYI. I hope any of this helps. -

Caffeine Withdrawals?
Dooter replied to southerngirl39212's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my. You didn't detox before surgery? Ouch. It could very well be. Keep track of your temperature and stay on the fluids. Try to walk. Other than that, caffeine withdrawal has to be waited out. :s -
Well, after looking up a kg to lbs converter (blush)...I can see you've done very well!! I hope the sleeve is at least making the battle easier. I think we will all fight it to some degree or other probably the rest of our lives. Keep up the good fight.
