Sf Hard Candies Ok?
Dooter replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pre op, I used the HECK out of them!! Like the sugar free varieties of lifesavers, jolly ranchers, brach's sf butterscotch. That kept me sane. Post op, I did not pick them up again until I was cleared for a bit more of a solid food- like Lissa said, you don't want to cause trouble with your new baby sleeve. -
Four Weeks Post Op W/pictures :-)
Dooter replied to kansasgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're coming right along there!!! Good job! -
Well, the general guidelines I got from my doc for my day to day diet includes 10% of total calories can be carbs: 800 calories = 80 carbs. I stalled big time at 3 weeks out. Lasted for six weeks. I finally started by cutting my carbs in half, then I just kept lowering them until I started losing again. It may be a different number for everyone. I think 30 is generally considered low, Although, when i was on an Atkins type diet, 30 was outrageously high. So...do what your body responds to within the bounds of your medical advice. Also, I increased cardio and cut out weights.

Question For The Ones That Hit The Plateu Or Stall
Dooter replied to marimar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep. I was doing everything perfectly, and still stalled out for six weeks. I finally dropped my carbs lower and started doing cardio only and stopped the weights for now. That seemed to kick me back into motion. -
Is "banding" The Sleeve A Common Practice?
Dooter replied to Estrovan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not heard of this at all, and I did some pretty extensive research on WLS when I started all of this. I must've missed that. Fairly new thing, I'm guessing. -
I bought a pair of 20's on a whim today and thought I'd just keep them in reserve and try them on every now and then for encouragement. Well...I WAS ENCOURAGED!!! They fit!!! I could NOT believe what I was seeing. My mind still sees 349 pounds, not 285. I'm pretty sure my wedding dress was a 20. I'm going to pull it out soon to see if it fits again. I might wait 10 more pounds for that though.... Wow. I'm still in stunned disbelief!! This is......just....I I I I I...don't have words. I'm giddy!!!

Dr.'s Scale? Bring It On! An Actual Scale Victory...
Dooter posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I've always hated weighing at the doctor, because for one thing, I was always higher than the last visit. And...my home scale was always 5 lbs lighter than any other scale on the planet (but I still insisted it was correct and THEY were wrong). Noooowwwww however, one surgery, and one new scale later....I have them shuffling through their paperwork muttering.... "wait a minute...that can't be right.....this says.....wait....you couldn't have lost... WHAT???" HAHAHAHA I love it!!!! Most doctors only see sick people. I've gotten to see the cardiologist and family doc get all happy because I'm getting HEALTHIER! Pretty good feeling folks. Wouldn't you agree?? -
HOORAY HOORAY HOOOOOOORAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

Sleeved May 30Th.. In So Much Pain.
Dooter replied to CatalinaK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well honey, it's only been 2 days!! You've been under the slice and dice! I promise you it will get better. Do exactly as you've been told (drink, walk, breathe) and take your pain meds, and it will slowly get better. Just be patient with yourself. I agree with PDXman. Prop yourself up. Lots o pillows, recliner, whatever works. It'll get better. -
YAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!! Feels good to break the stall!!

Drinking Before, After And During Meals?
Dooter replied to Debvzw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, that is so weird!! I get tragically ill when I do that! It could be because I'm still only a few months out, but it's enough to deter me...well....indefinitely! -
One thing is certain around here-- ALL stalls are temporary. They can seem like an eternity. I stalled for 6 weeks also. I thought I'd die waiting for it to break. I had to take some actions, but I started moving down again. A lot of people need this encouragement. Thanks for posting!

Awwwww I'm so sorry!! I'm very sad for you. This could be the Lord's way of telling you that the Vets need you here!! It's a closed door because you're meant to go through another. I hope you find fulfillment wherever you serve.

Is It Normal To B Hungry Every 2-3 Hrs?
Dooter replied to CHELL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same problem around that time. I was ravenous some days! It freaked me out. It wAs explained to me that the Grehlin hormones were still running around in the system and it takes a couple of months to clear out. I'm happy to report that that has gone away. Yes. Stay full on low fat proteins! -
Well, the day has finally come that I have to give up my "GOOD" scale. It is the one that has always told me that I am anywhere from 5 to 10 pounds less than EVERY other scale in the world, rendering all other scales garbage. The doctor, the gym, the surgeon...all of their scales are junk. They're broken. Poo poo. Until now. My good scale is a manual dial type scale, that now only registers 5 or 10 pound losses. I can't hang with that. I need to know the daily ounces of my loss or bounce. (I know, I know. I said I'd never do that, but I don't get all freaked out over it anymore.) So....my new, evil Weight Watchers brand scale from Costco says I weigh 287!!! Just like all of those OTHER stupid scales! Nowhere to run- nowhere to hide. This means... {GULP} That I did NOT start at 340, but at....349!! AAAHHHHHHHH!!!!! I know, I know...in the grand scheme of things, what's 9 pounds? I've still lost 62 no matter how you cut it. It's just that my starting weight and current weight are, well...shifted up a bit. It's almost like I'm not really who I thought I was!! (insert dramatic music here) HAHAHA Ok, I'm being dramatic for effect, but you get my drift. (BIG SIGH HERE;) Anyway- if anyone has paid any attention to my stats (which a couple of you have mentioned that you have) that's why the change in numbers. I'm finally being forced to face reality. WAAAAHHHH!!!!

2 Weeks Out And Cheating With Solids
Dooter replied to Onederland's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Never never never drink when you eat. Did I mention never? You will---as you found out---throw up. You only have ONE chance to heal, so do it right. Be good girl. -
I knowwwwww how you feel! Just hang in there. Have your pity party today, then tomorrow, pick yourself up and look forward to dropping, because it will happen!!

In Need Of Advice To Get Through A Stall!
Dooter replied to MiTurner247's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes you can kick yourself out of a stall by shaking things up a little, like lower your carbs drastically for a few days and increase your cardio exercises or something like that. Everyone has a different thing that works for them, so just change up a couple things that you know will normally work for you and see what happens. -
Hi there! I wish you good providence in your journey. Sounds like you got a good man there. Don't let him go! Keep us up to date on your surgery plans.

Isn't that the BEST feeling??

Good for you! Congratulations! I'm glad all went well.
