  1. I expected all the worst, and got all the best! The first 24 hrs. after surgery was rough because I was STRICT NPO, not even a single ice chip! That made me gag a few times. After that it was all uphill. They want us to sip an oz. of Fluid every 15 minutes after that first 24 hrs. Well, in a couple of days I was doing FOUR oz. every 15 minutes, and my pain was well managed by the meds prescribed. (I had a pretty good sized hernia repaired, so that caused some discomfort.) My healing progressed in a textbook fashion and I've not had a single complication (Thank you GOD!!) And I can eat any and all foods without problem or pain, and I've not thrown up once since surgery, and I've never "slimed." This could not have gone any better. I'm just amazed every day. I've lost almost 85 lbs. since February. I've got absolutely nothing to complain about. One thing I've noticed around here- aside from the "NSVs" we never really report when we "feel good." It doesn't seem that interesting or require a response. Most people post when there is trouble, or can wear a smaller size pants. We just don't think to say, "hey, by the way, I had a really non-complicated surgery." And maybe we should, just so all you noobs can see that it's not just doom and gloom in your future. I think there are a great number of us who had a terrific experience. Hopefully you'll hear from more....
  2. HAHAHA That's awesome. So true.
  3. I've yet to run into any of those!! LOL I'll ask for a booster seat.
  4. They really are!! I had quit wearing heels entirely, but I kept these because they were cute, and now I can wear them without feeling like i'm driving them into the ground!

Pet Peeve - Update Your Stats

I obsessively update my tickers, my profile, My Fitness Pal, and another tracking app on my phone. I'm strung out on tracking!
  6. It's actually more when I bend it when I have the problem. I can only bend it to a certain point, then it hurts really bad, so swimming and biking and even pulling my leg up to get under the sheet at night hurts. I never had knee problems until January.
  7. Hey all- Put your orthopedic thinking caps on- I've had a problem with my knee since January. I can't bend it past 45 degrees without great pain. I started exercising seriously in December, and in January I got sick and spent a week sleeping in a recliner because of coughing. That jacked up my knee pretty good for some reason. Here's the problem: I can't have steroids because of leaky retinas, and no ibuprofen because my stomach is too sensitive. It feels like i'm trying to eat batteries when I take it. Is there ANY way to get the inflammation down without those two normally useful items?? I use the elliptical almost exclusively because of the non-impact. It would be nice to make use of the knee at other times though. Thanks

    The First Few Days

A lot of people cannot tolerate just plain old water, sometimes for a few months. That's fairly normal. I'm still trying to get down more plain water, even at 5 1/2 months. BLECH. I have to be REALLY thirsty Just keep up on other liquids. And Protein drinks count!
  9. Ugh....I told myself I would take a break from this and not run my big mouth on here for a day or two. Alas...that did not happen....

    I'm Not Proud But...

I just did that yesterday! I tried some hummus, applesauce, a very healthy 21 grain bread square, a piece of hamburger, and a small spoonful of pineapple sorbet...then I was full! I did a quick add of calories on My Fitness Pal, and that was that! I thought it was a pretty sweet deal!
  12. Ya, you had me going until I saw "mounted over the fireplace."

    Gaining Weight Back

Oooohhhhh yeeeeaahhh...If ANYone can figure out how to fit some dense calories and fat into a tiny sleeve, it would be me, and I know this about myself, so the key will be continuing to look at this surgery as a permanent lifestyle change. Not "ok, I lost my weight, so I can go back to eating like I want." Uh uh!!! NOt gonna happen. Those delicious tidbits will have to be taken in very limited amounts and times after goal is reached. Exercise has to remain a permanent part of this new lifestyle as well. It's a whole new mindset. It has to be.

    Sweet Tea 6 Weeks Out?

I would not recommend TRUE "sweet tea." You don't want to get in a habit of drinking your calories, but tea sweetened with something non-caloric, sure go for it! Truvia and other stevia based sweeteners are the safest from what I can tell. Stay AWAY from agave. (You'd be better off with regular sugar!) But you're an adult, so obviously you can choose your own sweetener LOL
  15. It's funny you say that, because any surgery I've ever had, the LAST thing I remember is: "Hi, my name is "Dr. so and so, and I'll be administering your anesthesia today...." Then I wake up in my room. I don't even ever remember the recovery room.
  16. ME TOO! ME TOO! ME TOOOOOO!!!!! Official goal is 160, but I'd LOOOOVE to see 140!
  17. Do what makes YOU happy. I don't think your health is in jeopardy anymore, especially considering your activity level. Go with your gut. You look beautiful!
  18. I've always experienced a sharp pain in that same location since surgery, and sometimes I feel like what you said "something rolls." it's like a little trapped gas bubble, because after the roll, i burp a little then I feel better. Sometimes it takes a few days to get it out. it's really weird. I don't know if that is what you are having, but it's possible.
  19. Off to the gym to work off some more of this BOOOTAYYYY!!!!

  20. I was the opposite. I just assumed It would be horrible and I would get a leak and not lose weight and never be able to eat anything again. Isn't that awful???? My comfort came, primarily from my faith (but that's a different thread;) ) and secondly from knowing I picked the best surgeon I could find. Surgery and recovery is no bed of roses, but it's certainly not the worst thing I've ever been through. After that first couple of weeks...life has just been outstandingly wonderful!! I do not regret even a SECOND of the discomfort. I'd do it all again no problem. (glad I won't have to though!)

    Hello Everyone

Oohhh ya. The ability to eat anything ("normally" speaking) comes back over time. Some people continue to have some trouble with certain foods. I do not have trouble with ANY foods. Everything seems more drastic and or dramatic than it is during the whole healing process, but life returns to normal (a NEW normal) eventually. It's awesome!
  22. I'm SO glad to hear someone post op reporting feeling GOOD!!! That's great!! I think lots of us have good post op experiences, but never really report in, because.... we just don't think about it- because it's going well! Congrats!!
