Reflux/ Hiatal Hernia Issues Post-Op?
Dooter replied to Desert Clover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had pretty bad reflux for many many years. I ended up with a hiatal hernia as well that got repaired during the surgery. It was a good sized hernia that caused me a lot of trouble, and I feel it greatly increased my reflux. Since surgery in February, my reflux is WAY WAY better and I attribute a lot of it to the repaired hernia and the sharp decrease in sugar, fat and refined carbs in my diet. I do continue to take a prilosec daily, as i notice an increase in acids when I don't. I still don't know if this will be forever, or if it will get even better. I'm only 6 months out, so that's my experience so far. -
Uggh ! The Nerve Of Some Ppl !

If she had to follow one of us around for a week and eat as little as we do and exercise as MUCH as we do....she'd drop DEAD!!! I've always said...the first person that tells me this is the "easy way out" is getting punched dead in the face!! Ignorance never stops people from spewing garbage. -
-
That sounds almost just like the one I had to follow. The difference in mine came at the soft food to regular food progression. I did not have to wait five months. My instructions were more of an "as tolerated" kind of thing to progress to regular food. I was only on 'soft food' for a couple of weeks.

Well, first of all, your taster is off right now. Some things will taste weird for a while. Secondly, Greek yogurt can be an acquired taste for some people. Try different brands. They all have a bit of a different personality. Oikos, for example is a mild, sweeter Greek while Chobani will flay the taste buds right out of your mouth. Shop around.

Look up "Pookeyism." She lost her mama right after surgery. You may want to chat with her. I'm so sorry for your loss. :'(

I'd like to at least see and feel what "too small" may be like! If I don't like it...I'm an expert at gaining weight, I already know that!

How Many Calories/exercise Are You Getting?
Dooter replied to LesKra's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Almost 6 months out, and I always shoot for 800 calories (sometimes I miss the shot and hit 900;) ) and I usually burn between 450- 550 calories 5 days/week. I use the elliptical for an hour M-F. dooter69 on MFP -
I usually ended up sitting in a chair at the end of the table while my boys and husband sat in the booth itself.

I wish I could watch the Olympics while I'm at the gym all year!! When the swimming is on, I start cranking on that elliptical, I dunno, to help them swim faster or something?? Either way, it gets me going! Then watching the beach volleyball, I think "MAN, I want a stomach like that! Think I'll go over here and do some more ab work..." Cycling- same thing. I start running on that elliptical to help 'em out. Love it. GO USA!!!

Increase In Migraines- Is It Surgery, Or Is It Me?

You're doing great. My surgery was 2/13/12 and I started at 349, and i'm now at 264. Keep following the rules and exercise faithfully.

Put some ice on it.

It's almost like dumping. We're not technically supposed to experience dumping syndrome, but we do after a fashion. I've done it myself. Something with too much sugar or too much fat, or eaten to fast, or a combination of those will cause it. You feel like you want to barf, but don't usually, but usually will end up running to the bathroom with the runs, sweaty feeling, like you said... very unpleasant.

A restaurant like that would get all of my eating out dollars!

The trick is stopping yourself at 800 or 900 calories. Don't eat all you can hold. Aim for half cup meals.

LOL This is the biggest can of worms you can open on this forum! Be prepared for a lengthy, heated thread. Every doc is different. My doc said NO CARBONATION forever and ever, so I will not ever have it. Go by whatever your doc says you can or can't do and follow his instructions to the letter. That's all I've got to say about that.
