Pizza, Popcorn, Brownies
Ssilian replied to ariesgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess i thought that pasta, bread and grains were a no-no after being sleeved. I love Quinoa! And so healthy. I eill chk my local Trader Joes. Thank you!!! -
MustangAli, I am pre-op but I've been reading steadily on two forums and anything I can get my hands on. I understand that there is a 5-day pouch test: http://www.5daypouchtest.com/ that will put you back on track. Check it out -- it has a TON of information. I read that it reminds you of how to use your sleeve tool as you did in the beginning. I hope this helps!

Help! Having Second Thoughts.
Ssilian replied to luvrkb's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Dear luvrkb, I was doing the exact same thing as you. I was vasilating back and forth but now I'm going forth on June 14. I have fought this "disease" my whole life and now I am 55. My back and knees hurt all the time. I can't climb a flight of steps without my heart pounding in my chest. I have no co-morbidities except a BMI of 39 and the aches and pains mentioned. Someone either on this forum or another forum compared dieting success and loss like this: can you hold your breath for a minute? Yes. Can you hold it for a lifetime? No. Some people can lose weight and keep it off for a lifetime. I am not one of those people. You can only do what your heart tells you. I have been a member of this forum for 8 months. I've learned so much from the kind people here. I know now in my heart, this is right for me. I'm not going to worry about the surgery. I haven't heard of any problems from the folks here. My friend who is a nurse anesthesis (SP?), and who is going to knock me out for my surgery, said I have a much bigger chance of getting in a car accident than anything happening in surgery. ***I have nothing but kind thoughts coming at you from this post!*** Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. -
Pizza, Popcorn, Brownies

@Catracks - where did you find the quinoa pasta? I love the grain and usually cook it in my rice cooker but I'm afraid I won't be able to have it anymore once I'm sleeved in mid-June. I also wanted to ask anyone, once sleeved I understand that I will need to chew my food extremely well. Will it be that way forever? Thanks! -
Prettypebble: I will be sleeved in June. One if the veteran sleevers, Lil Miss Diva, posted a Basics Bootcamp to get started losing again. Here is the link: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/28139-the-basics-boot-camp/

For Older-Aged Sleevers: Do You Look Older Now?
Ssilian posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've noticed a lot of older-aged people who have been through WLS, may tend to look older. I'm already showing the signs of age at 55. I hope I don't look 65 when I'm done with this process. Thoughts? Comments? Thank you! -

@Cherrybomb: what are the exercises? I might have to start doing them to help prevent my turkey neck! -
Good luck! You'll do great! I still have 2 months until my surgery. Check in with us after and let us know how everything went!

I Have A Question About The Procedure
Ssilian replied to ChristineS NY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my first meeting with my surgeon and he says he "over-sews". I believe its the same thing as double stapling. Its just a precaution to prevent leaks. -
Im on a self-imposed liquid diet. I notice that ppl are saying that they drink 4-5 shakes a day. How much protein and how many calories are ppl consuming on their liquid diets? Just want to be sure im doing this right. Thank you.

Ssilian replied to Ssilian's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You ALL look great! A friend if mine mentioned the subject and she got me thinking about it. That is why i asked. I think a positive attitude can make a person look younger too! Im going to work on that! -
Sleeve Capacity At Eight Weeks Seems More Than It Should Be
Ssilian replied to Dooter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear conflicting stories about the sleeve stretching. One Dr said that the sleeve is the thickest part of the stomach and does not stretch very well. Then i hear ppl say that it does stretch. I know that once the swelling goes down there is more room but i cant see it stretching out too much. I dont believe sleevers can gain all their weight back, can they?? -
For Older-Aged Sleevers: Do You Look Older Now?

By the way, I 'm talking about people I know that have been through surgery. -
Last May, a WL Dr put paperwork in to my ins co to get a pre-authorization to begin a12-month weight loss counseling program. I weighed 206. During the summer I had a terrible family event and put on 20 lbs. On May 2 my yr will be finished and the Dr will put thru the final paperwork and it's going to show that I gained. I'm worried I will be turned down so now I'm desparate to try an lose 15 lbs in 5 weeks. A little depressed because I don't know if I can do it...... His surgical muse has even penciled me in for June 26. I'm do close but feel so far.

Pre- Op Diet

Are you exercising at all? My daughter and son-in-law brought over their Wii Fit and want me to use it. I guess I should try it. It looks like fun. -
Nausea During 2 Week Liquid Pre-Op Diet
Ssilian replied to Ashbeaux's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Glad you!re doing well. It's my day 3 and lm getting a headache. I'm sure it's carb withdrawal. No more nausea tho. How many shakes are you doing a day? How much protein? -
I'm on a pre-op diet and two shakes is 53g protein. I'm reading that ppl are having shakes every 2-3 hrs. Are we supposed to go over 60g of protein? My diet is self-imposed because I gained 20lbs during my 12 month waiting period. I don't want ins co to turn me down next month.

Nausea During 2 Week Liquid Pre-Op Diet
Ssilian replied to Ashbeaux's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Wow yesterday was my day 2 and I was nauseous too! No dry heaves tho. -
This is too funny. I try so hard not to talk peoples ears off about the surgery. I'm on month 11 of a 12 month counseling period. I gained 20 lbs since I started so I'm trying to lose 15 lbs by May 2. That's when the surgical nurse sends the ppr work to the ins co. I don't want any reason for them to deny me So freaking excited!!
