Hi jerri, like 6kiddos said I had my surgery with Dr. Fang on 1/4/2011. I wouldn't have changed a thing, Dr. Fang was great. So far as of last week I was down 30, I hope for more this week, but I've been sick and not eating great or working out, so we'll see. I hear a lot of great things about Dr. Blackstone, I know she's crazy busy! Good luck to you.

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone here was working as a stay at home medical coder? I'm currently a SAHM but we really need extra income. I've found a reasonable program that is online only and has a duration of about 8 weeks and then you are certified and can work at home or at a facility. I was wondering if anyone could provide me with any additional information on this career path at all. Thanks!

Ive only lost 10 pounds in 3weeks!
FuriosMommy replied to mbridgeman27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you are doing great. My first month out, in 3 weeks I lost 2.5 lbs. It sucks, but it will come off, just keep doing what you do. Your body is really pissed off at you for having surgery, give it some time to get used to the idea and it will shake some weight loose. -
Stool like bricks
FuriosMommy replied to albertogunz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same problem and the only thing that helped was to really up my water intake. Now I'm much more regular and pain free. A little miralax in my protein smoothies everyday helps too! Good luck, it's a crappy situation! -
Burning on left side of belly button???
FuriosMommy replied to sassyatty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's so funny, we are in the same boat. I'm almost 4 weeks out from surgery and have a mysterious pain that is similar. I didn't even have an incision in my belly button. Your's sounds a little more intense though. I'm not sure what it is, but I feel a little something too. I know what you mean, there's no taking it easy with a toddler. I have a 17 month old and he only has two speeds, fast and faster. If you still feel it that intense in a few days I'd call back again. -
Is anyone having problems with bowel movement?
FuriosMommy replied to valleygirl's topic in Food and Nutrition
Oh yes! Miralax is good stuff. For me if things get REALLY bad I have to take a colace. Usually just one is enough for me. The thing that helps me the most is getting all of my water in and then some. I find I'm much more regular when I get all my fluids. Good luck! -
Who Was Your Gastric Sleeve Surgeon
FuriosMommy replied to boredswfl's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Dr. Fang, St. Luke's Medical Center in Phoenix, Az. Dr. Fang is great, very nice, a little quiet, but he seems to really know what he's doing. The hospital was good too. It's an older hospital, but I thought it was fine. The recovery room nurse sucked (but I was only there for an hour, so it wasn't horrible), but all my other nurses were great! From check in on the day of surgery and check out I was there just about 24 hours. Great doc, good facility. I would recommend them! -
Hello all, I am 5 days post op and am going through full liquids for the next 2 weeks. I'm already sick of creamy soups. I'm having trouble with protein shakes, they all taste awful. I have been doing some greek yogurt, sugar free pudding, sugar free popsicles, cream soups, cream of wheat... any other suggestions? I did see one poster mention using a light alfredo sauce as a soup, that sounds promising! Thanks!

I watched it and loved it. I'd like to see it back on the air for a continuation!

It wouldn't hurt to give them a call to get some clarifications on all of your requirements. In my experience the phone reps weren't any help at all. They didn't know any of my specific benefits or requirements, they could only speculate. But, they also didn't offer to forward me to the correct people that could help me, which was a bummer. Just keep pushing. With UHC the squeeky wheel gets the grease. Good luck!

I would have your doctor write a very detailed note regarding your weight loss attempts and any recorded weights that you may have from SP or WW. I was in a similar situation. After submitting everything my nurse coordinator kept telling me she didn't receive anything, after 5 more attempts, she said she still didn't receive anything. I requested a change of a nurse and the next day I was approved. If you have any trouble with your assigned nurse just let them know and ask for a re-assignment. UHC can offer really good coverage if you can squeeze it out of them. Good luck, I hope you don't have the run around I had, but here I am 2 weeks out from being sleeved so it will all work out. Also, it varies so much depending on employers specifications so definitely check in with the bariatric coordinator and find out more details.

I just saw my surgeon for my post-op visit and mentioned always feeling hungry. He said one thing that most people experience is hunger during most of the liquid phase because liquid just doesn't sit around in our stomachs like a solid would. But he assured me that once I start on mushies (end of this week) I'll feel much fuller and more satisfied, so I look forward to that!

That's awesome, congratulations!

Why am I hungry?
FuriosMommy replied to karrieremmer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'm 6 days out and feel like I'm starving! I'm sticking to my 1/4 cup serving of soup per meal, but I feel like I'm always hungry! It's good to know I'm not alone. It makes sense though as to the restriction and that we'll feel more restriction on mushies and soft foods. Like you, I was starting to wonder if he actually removed some of my stomach or just played around for an hour and made some incisions on my stomach for fun. Can't wait for mushies! -

GASTRIC SLEEVE EXPERTS IN PHX AND SCOTTSDALE
FuriosMommy replied to ebm1946's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I just had my sleeve with Dr. Fang on Tuesday. He was really great. Very quite, but he knows his stuff. I have also met Dr. Juarez a few years back. He was really nice as well, but based on a few other recommendations for Dr. Fang I decided to go with him. good luck -
Hi all, I am 4 days post op and have yet to have a BM. I keep seeing people comment on "liquid in, liquid out", so far it's just liquid in for me. Right now i'm sipping on a little prune juice to help stimulate thing. My post op diet is full liquids... but still nothing. I'm not in any pain and I don't have any of the usual constipation stomach cramping, just haven't pooped yet.... any thoughts? Gross I know... sorry

Just to chime in, for me the stairs were no problem. I am 4 days post-op and live in a 2 level town home. I was able to go upstairs shortly after coming home from the hopsital and have been up and down numerous times a day without any trouble. Just take it as slow as you need to, you'll do fine. Now the St. Bernard's.... you'd know better there haha.

LOL good luck tomorrow!

Hi all, I'm officially on the losing bench. I was sleeved yesterday afternoon and got to come home this morning. It's nice to be able to relax at home. I wasn't very prepared for waking up from the general anesthesia. I was in a lot of pain and it didn't subside too quickly. But now I'm home and able to relax and rest a little more. Good luck everyone!

Getting sleeved tomorrow! (1/4/2011)
FuriosMommy posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so happy to finally be getting sleeved tomorrow. It's been a long road! Wish me well! -
Hi All. I am finally getting sleeved on Tuesday (1/4). I can't wait, but i'm not sure what to expect surgically. I've had a scheduled c-section before, but never anything where I am under general anesthesia. Once I check in at the hospital, outside of signing a ton of forms and getting an IV what else can I expect? I'm looking to my post-op friends for a summary of what will happen from check in to surgery time. Thanks! I can't wait to join you all on the losers bench.

Good post, I'd like to know the same. I'm sure every surgeon is different. I plan to start at 6 weeks out and just start slow. Anyone else to chime in? -
