    Protein Shakes

My nutritionist said not to have a shake that is more that 150 calories or more that 15 g protein. I drink Muscle Milk Light its only 100 calories 3 g carbs and 15 g protein. Its convenient and easy to carry. I love this product!!!!

    January Surgery Bandsters Group

Hi. I am a december bandster and I just have to say I love muscle milk !! I buy it @ walmart because it's only $5.38 for a 4pack 8.25fl oz. Love the vanilla and coffee latte flavors. I wish they had a strawberry flavor too
  6. You know I was just thinking about that... I am new here but I was banded 6 months ago. It seems like not all surgeons work the same way. For me it was a whole process. I had to get a nutricionist consult where we went over the nutriotional side of this operation including which and how many vitamins to take. I also had to go to a seminar (a different one than the initial one) where we went over the foods, the quantities, which medicines to take or not no take, when to start exercising, etc. Then on my first post op visit with my surgeon I had to sit with someone again to go over the same stuff. I was bombarded with soo much information that somehow I remember everything. I guess that by going over and over the same stuff it will stay with you forever.

    New Band

It's true. I thought I wouldn't be hungry after the surgery but I was. It was hard. I was told not to drink water. You need some calories in you for energy. Try drinking warm skim milk. Diluted fruit juice. Gatorade. Sugarfree Jello. The worst part for me were the stomach cramps I would get in the middle of the night. My surgeon said it was gas due to the way I was drinking.
  9. Band patients have to take a multivitamin with iron and calcium with vitamin D. Vitamin B12 is not required unless you need it. I was told by my nutricionist to take my vitamins this way for better absorption. Breakfasts: one chewable multivitamin with iron Lunch: chewable calcium, chewable vitamin D Dinner: chewable multivitamin with iron Snack / Night: chewable calcium, chewable vitamin D Sometimes I don't have all this meals in order so what I do I take one multivitamin when I wake up and the calcium with vitamin D four hours later. I always leave four hours in between each dose for better absorption. They don't have to be taken with food. I set my phone alarms for every four hours so I don't skip a dose. If you take your multivitamin with the calcium supplement all at once, your body can only absorb certain amount the rest gets expulse from your body as waste.
  10. I agree that it's too early for you to start on salads and red meats. I was told not to eat salad, fresh veggies or fruit at least for 8 weeks to allow band to heal. I was banded in December and was told by my surgeon to start eating mushy by the second week. Foods that I've tried are: farina (cream of wheat), oatmeal, Greek or regular yogurt, sugarfree pudding, mashed potatoes or buttersquash, cottage cheese w fruit, etc. By my third week I was told to eat soft solid foods like: chicken, cooked carrots, potatoes, tuna fish, egg salad or scramble eggs, turkey ham, turkey bacon, ground turkey, turkey hotdog (no bun) turkey sausage links, string cheese, chili, shrimp, tilapia, wheat crackers, Bimbo wheat toast, wheat waffles (toasted) light syrup, etc. Remember you have to have 70g of protein per day so with every meal try to get at least 15g. Pick foods high in protein and low in fat. My favorite protein shake is called Muscle Milk Light is a sugar free, lactose free, 100 calories, 3g crabs, 8.25 floz protein shake. Easy to carry, no refrigeration required, it comes in a 4 pk only $5.38 @walmart three different flavors vanilla, chocolate and coffee late. I always have one in my purse

    What Have I Done?

Think of it this way. When you get a prescription from a doctor, they give you a pamphlet with all the side effects that pill "might" give you. You take the pills and keep an eye on your symtoms and how you react to it. Right? This is almost the same thing. I got banded on 12/09/11, and that morning when I was in the hospital they were asking me if I had a living will and telling me all the things that can go wrong. My husband and I got pretty scared. But is something you have to know so you can be prepared and do not disregard any symptoms. When I got home that day, I was nauseous and throwing up. I remember reading on the discharge instructions to call my Dr immedietly if throwing up a lot so I did and my Dr reassured me everything was fine and throwing up a little is normal because of the anesthesia. Its normal feeling a little anxious with everything that's happening and specially reading others complications, my advice to you is keep an eye on whats happening to you and dont be afraid to ask your Dr or nurse any concerns that you might have. Good Luck, Kathy
