Sleeved 4-24-12 What Were/are You Eating And How Much?

I think you re on track. Everyone has different restrictions so not everyone will be the same. As long as you are eating protein first and you know when you are full and know when to stop, you should be ok.

Texas Caviar Recipe Lots Of Protein

Here is my Texas Caviar recipe that I love. It is full of Protein. It can be used with Lundberg's Rice chips (instead of tortilla chips and they taste awesome), or sometimes I just eat alone with a handful of little salad size shrimp or diced cooked chicken thrown in, or sometimes put a spoonful in a bell pepper cup or on a bed of lettuce. Very tasty. Janet's Texas Caviar 1 14 oz. can whole kernel corn drained and rinsed 1 14 oz. can pinto Beans drained and rinsed 1 14 oz. can black beans drained and rinsed 1 14 oz. can black-eyed peas drained and rinsed 1/4 cup diced red bell pepper 1/4 cup diced green bell pepper 1/2 cup diced sweet onion 1/2 cup white or cider vinegar 3/4 cup canola or vegetable oil (not olive oil) 2 packets Splenda or sweetener of your choice Salt and pepper to taste Pour everything into a bowl and mix well. Refrigerate at least 8 hours. (best the next day). Stir periodically throughout the first day to mix liquid well.

    Water Flavoring, What's Your Favorite?

I used to use CL fuit punch but then from others on this site, discovered MIO. Love the strawberry/watermelon flavor. FYI WalMart has the same as MIO in their Great Value brand and is at least a dollar cheaper. Drink, drink, drink!

My Life At 2 Years Out

My doctor said carbonation will not stretch your stomach, but cane be painful and cause too much excess gas and bloating. If you are doing this surgery to be healthier, your doctor should have told you diet soda is one of the unhealist things you can drink. I was a diet pepsi fanatic for years, and I feel so much better since I have not had any soda. This is one of the healthy lifestyle changes you may choose to make.

    Does Removing The Drain Hurt

A drain is a like a catheter that is out in your stomach area on your belly kind of like an IV in one of your laparoscopic incisions. It has a collapsible bulblike rubber ball than fills up with the drainage from your surgery. The liquid look like the color of blush wine, and you need to empty it about twice a day. i had mine removed a week after my surgery. It prevents the Fluid drainage from going back inot your stomach and body and prevents any infection. I didn't even know he took mine out until he held it up and showed it to me.

    Trouble With Eggs Post-Op?

Sometimes when you eat something soft like egg salad or something similiar, you do eat too fast and don't even realize it. I am almost 6 months, and I still find myslef eating too fast sometimes! It is hard to slow down when you are used to shoveling the food in very quickly like we did before VSG. Most likely you ate it too fast. I hope you feel better. Nausea from eggs...ugh.

    I Hate Water!

I can't stand plain water anymore either, but instead of Crystal Light I use Mio. It is natural flavoring. I love the strawberry/watermelon flavor. Wal Mart sells the same thing in their Great Value brand for 1.00 less and tastes exactly the same.

  14. I agree that you should start eating regular foods as soon as your sleeve can tolerate them. You have lost 85% of your stomach; that was the purpose of the surgery in the first place. There is no way you can continue eating the quantity of food you ate before VSG. If you overeat, you will know! Your body is made to function with liquids AND food. protein shakes should not be a meal replacement unless you are still on liquids since you aren't eating food anyway. I mentioned this thread to my doctor and he was appalled that someone would say to stay on that protein shake plan for so long. He said you are asking for trouble in the long term with your instestines and could caus IBS (Irratable Bowel Syndrome). Your goal is to eat the right foods as soon as you can tolerate, and move into a healthier diet and lifestyle. I personally am on the right track with my new eating habits and very close to my goal, and couldn't be healthier. I love my sleeve!
  15. I was on any regular food by week 10 except bread, pasta, and rice which was added at week 12. i can't imagine waiting til 6 months for reglar food.
  16. NEVER heard of a three month protein shake regimen after VSG. the main reason for protein shakes after surgery I think is because your stomach needs time to heal before you start putting regilar food into it and you need to get as many nutrients and as much protein as possible. But as soon as you are able you progress to pureed and soft foods, and the regular. You are not supposed to avoid food, but introduce it slowly. Where did you hear of a three month protein plan after VSG? I have never heard of that at all even on this site.

    Stalled!

How many oz. do you usually eat in a meal and a snack? I cannot get close to 800 calories some days.
  18. SleeveDreamer

    Stalled!

Can you give me an example of what you eat in a 1,000 calorie day with number of oz. too cuz i just cant get there!
  19. SleeveDreamer

    Stalled!

My doctor told me no more than 800 until I get to my goal. I am almost 6 months out. If I get in a stall, I eat nothing but protein and liquids for a couple days and break the stall. I really don't see how someone can get in 1200-1500; I have enough trouble getting in 800! How many oz. are you eating at a time to get in so many calories? Just curious!

    Trouble With Eggs Post-Op?

I was talking about green salads with lettuce, as he mentioned he could barely hold salads down. Maybe he was talking about chicken and tuna.salads and not green.
  21. SleeveDreamer

    Salads!

I was not allowed salad for 8 weeks, but it always goes down well. I find that I no longer like iceberg lettuce. It is harder to chew and digest. (Now that I finally chew my food for the first time in my life!) I use the bags of cut up romaine or spinach or bibb lettuce now. I usually put shrimp or chicken in my slalds, so I eat that first then tomatoes, or other stuff, etc., then I may eat a little of the lettuce if I am not full.

    Fruits

Please be careful of the banana. It has alot of carbs. Right now you need to concentrate on protein. If you want fruits, I would suggest watermelon, kiwi, or grapefruit sections. I am almost 6 months out and have not had a banana since. i really watch my carbs, even from fruit. Good luck!

    Scared!

Of course there is a risk of complications with any surgery. But you need to be aware and realize that if you are obese in the first place, if you do not have it, you will be fighting the excess weight, possible high bp, heart disease, diabetes, and the list goes on and on for the rest of your life.. I personally had NO complications OR pain with this surgery. It has been the best thing I have ever done and I feel so much better and like a completely new person. i never run out of breath anymore from just walking my dog down the street. I no longer have RLS symptoms in my legs, no longer have headaches every night like I did for years. The pros certainly outweigh the cons. You need to realize however, that you are making lifestyle changes with your eating habits. The first few weeks are testy and you will wonder if you will ever eat regular foods again! Yes you can! I am almost 6 months out, can eat anything I want, almost to my goal, and have gone from a size 18 jeans to a size 6. The only thing that hurts is your pocketbook from having to buy all new clothes! Please don't worry, and be patient and follow your doctor's instructions. Good luck.
