  1. I have kidney stones. In fact I passed one about a week and a half after my bypass. I get pain in my lower back very bad. Then it subsides until it move again and then I get it in my ureter area. I also get that cramping feeling in my crotch that you get when you have a urinary tract infection. You may see blood in your urine, but sometimes you don't. If you have one, you would know it cuz the pain is terrible when it is moving.
  2. Did you tell your doctor this? He may want to do an upper GI or endoscopy to see why you are having that feeling. I have had both surgeries and also hiatial hernia, but I never had this feeling with either.

Previous Hiatal Hernia Surgery Changing Everything

I just had a sleeve revision to RNY in June. I had a sleeve in 2011 due to a repair I had to have because 2/3 of my stomach was up through y diaphragm between my lungs, headed for my heart! Definitly a hiatial hernia! However, it did not cure my acid which got completely out of control and the only way I could get rid of it was to have the RNY. I didn't have either surgery for weight loss. When he went in to do the bypass, he discovered an area on my esophagus that was so thin due to acid damage it was about to rupture, so he fixed that before he did the bypass part. I have never heard that you could not have a sleeve when you have a hiatial hernia. In fact that happens a lot, so I don't understand why he told you that. They fix the hiatial hernia first then do the sleeve. However, I have not had any regrets from the RNY. Never had any pain or nausea and now I am on all foods and everything is going great. The restriction on the RNY is greater than the sleeve, obviously, since the pouch is so much smaller than you leftover stomach with the sleeve. If you have severe acid, not sure cuz you didn't say, the RNY is the best choice. Don't be scared of the RNY. IMO the recovery is not any different than the sleeve. Too many people are scared of the bypass for some reason.

    Bread Products!

Just started ten weeks out. Having no problems at all with bread or tortillas or pasta!
  5. It doesn't matter to me what it is called as long as I haven't had those symptoms!
  6. If you are referring to insurance, I didn't have either surgery for weight loss so BMI was not even considered. I had some upper GI issues. I have lost weight, but really didn't need to. Had I not had this RNY, it would have been likely that in the future I may have gotten esophageal cancer because my acid was so out of control. Also I had an area on my esophagus that was so thin from acid damage, it would have probably ruptured in the near future, so he had to repair that when he got in there before he did the bypass. My pouch is smaller than normal because of the repair so the restiction is much greater than the sleeve restriction. But everything is going great. Never had any pain or any nausea, and I am on all food now and no issues. No regrets!
  7. I had a VSG 5 1/2 years ago. About three years ago my acid started coming back. VSG does not control acid because you still have a useable stomach. Recently in the past year it was terrible and out Of control. I had an RNY on June 12 because my doctor said in my case that was the only resolve to stop my acid. I was told I had to take my Pepcid twice a day for about sixty days and it would be gone. I had it a a couple times a week for seven weeks. Then it stopped. The doctor told me to stop taking my morning pill to see if it came back. It did not. Now he told me to stop them completely and i have and NO acid! I am so relieved to be rid of the acid once and for all!
  8. Then I guess I have never experienced dumping! But I was told by several including a nurse and a registered dietician that it was dumping. They both said you don't have to experience those other symptoms like shaking, cramps, etc to be dumping!!
  9. I am 10 weeks out and have experienced dumping syndrome a couple times but only because I knew I ate too fast! Feels kind of like a stuck feeling and can't eat anymore. A lot of thick slimes and then I try to throw up and it comes right out (liquid). Then I feel great! But I never have experienced any pain or nausea since my surgery other than that.

    When am I full?

I actually don't have that "I'm full" feeling either. I just know when it's time to stop. I am in my 9th week and actually ate a 6 oz. piece of baked salmon tonight. I am on 4-6 oz per meal but usually can't even get 3 oz in!

What's your favorite phase 2 foods?

Yes I can eat any I want. My pouch loves cheese!
  12. I pour about 4 oz of decaf cold brew over ice then pour a Premier Shake over that in either vanilla or caramel and it takes just like an iced Starbucks latte with 30 g of protein.

What's your favorite phase 2 foods?

Cheese and also Trader Joe's cottage cheese.
  14. I am already on regular solid foods and can tolerate everything but chicken. That was the same way when I had the sleeve though. I couldn't eat chicken until over a year out with my sleeve. I can add bread, rice, pasta, and tortillas this Saturday. I cannot get 6 oz a meal in but if I can only get in less than that, a couple hours later I can have a protein snack. I pour 4 oz of cold brew decaf over ice and pour a premier protein drink ovet that and tastes just like a Starbucks iced latte. Don't have a problem getting protein in at all.
  15. I had a sleeve 5 1/2 years ago for repairing something and then had a revision to RNY on June 12 this year because of so much acid. I had both for some other reasons not for weight loss. I don't remember when I started eating a plate of food after my sleeve. I was wondering how long it takes after RNY to eat a plate full or a full meal. I am on regular food now and can have 6 oz. per meal, but can't get it in.

    When can i drink coffee?

I drink decaf cold brew. When it is cold brew it takes the acid out of the coffee. I have always tried to drink decaf so I will continue to. I pour about four ounces of cold brew over ice and then pour in y Premier Protein either vanilla or caramel and it tastes just like a Starbucks.

Just because you gain weight on the scale, doesn't men you are gaining fat. You may be gaining body mass which is good. But at the same time you are losing percentage of body fat.

    I did it!!

A swallow test is done by a doctor in the xray room. You swallow sips of barium contrast nd they watch it go down on the screen to see if you may have a leak.
  19. I am eight weeks out and on regular foods, and am limited to 6 oz. per meal. I am supposed to have 60-70 g of protein a day also.

    Alcohol after surgery

I am wondeing why you are allowed alcohol at all right now, but I see now that you had your surgery three years ago. It contains sugar that your pouch should not have. I was told not to have it for at least a year. I had a sleeve 5 1/2 yrs. ago and also waited a year before having any but sugar is not good if you have had RNY.

    Full and bloated

If yu are bloated, it is most likely from the gas they pump into you during the surgery. The inflammation on your tummy will go down in about a week. Try walking more and the gas will subside quicker. Walk for at least 5-10 minutes at least four times a day. It won't last that long.

    Saying hello

Do you have a NUT at your doctor's office that would give you a post op diet? Until you are on soft/pureed , you really don't get protein unless you drink shakes. I can't stomach powders or shakes from powder, so I use Premier Protein RTD drinks from Costco or Wal mart. They are easy to get down and taste good. I add About 4oz of cold brew decaf coffee to my vanilla or caramel and it tastes just like a starbucks iced latte.

    Bread Products!

My surgery was June 12 and i get to add bread, rice, and pasta at the end of 9'weeks which will be August 12.
  24. I drink the vanilla or caramel Premier RTD protein drinks. I made some cold brew decaf concentrated coffee. Making cold brew extracts the acid from the coffee and tastes a little sweeter. I pour 4 oz. od the cold brew over ice and then pour in the 11 oz. of the vanilla or caramel Premier and it tastes just like a Starbucks iced latte! I started on regular food today so now am down to one protein drink a day, but doesn't even seem like a protein drink when I drink it this way. The Premier also tastes great with sugar-free flavored syrups added. Maybe some of you who are having trouble getting your protein drinks down will try this and like it better. They have a great cold brew maker on Amazon for 19.99.

    Protein drink tastes like Starbucks

I know but I prefer decaf and the ready made ones aren't decaf of course! It is so easy to make the cold brew!
