    BREAKFAST!

I'm a Greek yogurt junkie lol, I can't get enough of that stuff. Occasionally I'll have an egg with 2 slices of turkey bacon. Turkey bacon I can make in advance as well, it is good cold or reheated. Along with a boiled egg you have an easy fast breakfast.

Is it bad if i drink coffee?

My program says no coffee for 3 months! I love drinking coffee on my way to work (I work 3 nights a week, so not a lot). And it has been so hard and my Keurig is so lonely lol. My surgeon said caffeine is a strong stomach irritant and can cause stomach pain. Just proceed with caution, let me know how it goes if you try it.

    Soft serve ice cream

I agree with Hazel... It isn't a good option at 2 weeks post op and it will be easy to eat more than you intend to. Week 2 to 4 was the hardest for me, that was my purée phase, so I understand the options don't seem as tasty but you can get by. Try to stick with more nutritious options.
  4. I'm absoultely astonished at this post and it should be deleted! I'm here for advice and support, not for someone who claims "they have it all figured out" to tell me how I am supposed to do things and if I don't do it that way I won't ever lose. Clearly you don't have it all figured out or you would realize that the sleeve is a tool that will last forever when used correctly. June13sleever stop posting... come back when you have a medical/nursing degree so you can actually be informed about what you are telling people.

    Day4... Dehydration?

My doctor suggested getting medicine cups (which hold about 30 mLs) and to sip sip sip. About 4 medicine cups per hour. But make sure you listen to your body... dehydration can be very dangerous and you need to seek prompt medical attention if you begin to feel worse.

    Stretching out sleeve !

I get so confused! Every program says different things and sometimes it's hard to keep up. My surgeon did tell me that my sleeve could be "stretched" and that carbonation is a big culprit in stretching a sleeve. He also did warn me about the slider foods but he also included mashed potatoes as a slider as well. His program has a tremendous success rate so I've been trying to follow his program rules.

    WHAT!

Congrats! I was sleeved Jan. 9th and I have had similar accomplishments... it is such an amazing feeling!
  8. Having surgery can be very overwhelming and cause an upheval of emotions. It did for me as well and I don't suffer from depression. But I often felt sad and not myself even though I was losing weight and becoming healthier which is what I wanted. At first I didn't understand these feelings but it did slowly get better. Also I am 6 weeks out and I get light headed and dizzy sometimes. I've had to have an EGD (NOT THE NORM) to help dilate some narrow areas in my esophagus and sleeve that was preventing me from eating. But what you are feeling is completely normal just a couple weeks post-op. I've also been very weak as well and my first 3 weeks or so was the worst. I could barely get up and take a shower and when I did I was like you and I immediately had to lay back down because I was exhausted! I was like what the heck is this!? But like before it did get better and it still is. I still comabt weakness and exhaustion but I've learned how to move past it. Typically I'll just take a seat for about 5 minutes or so when I get really tired and when I get light headed I try to drink half of an ensure, a handful of nuts, or a light mini babel cheese (I am on solids). My doctor suggested ensure as well in the beginning for my dizzy spells because they offer a few more calories than most protein shakes. Let me know if you need anything. You don't have to do this alone we are here for you.

    Serious question

Every surgeon is different. My surgeon says he only removes 75%. I have lost 40 lbs since my surgery on Jan. 9th. I'm not disappointed at all.

    Need quick advise

Hi I just had my EGD with balloon dilatation last Wednesday. I was having the same exact symptoms along with severe exhaustion. I was only getting about 350 calories a day. My sleeve and esophagus was very narrow in a few places. My surgeon has recommended that I eat 5-7 meals a day. Even after the dilatation I can only eat 2-3 oz of food at best which is why he wanted me to eat more often. I am on solids now but that is even more difficult. I've realized I do much better with foods like yogurt and the inside of a potato. I have also been doing what TES recommened when I start to get extremely dizzy I try to eat half a protein bar, drink half an ensure, handful of almonds, or a light mini babel cheese. It usually helps. I know what you mean about work I just went back and it is awful! I am a nurse in an ICU and it kills me. Luckily I have amazing co workers who are really helping me through by helping me with patient care and recognizing when I am feeling like crap. The one thing I am disappointed about is lack of exercise. I can walk and thats about it and a slow walk at that. When I start to pick up pace and sweat (like I should) I get nauseous and dizzy. Then I have to stop and wait for it to pass and then I don't even want to continue. I believe I am having a slower weight loss because I cannot exercise at my full potential yet. Really hoping this will eventually get better.

    Any regrets?

I don't have an regrets exactly but I am 27 and eating was sort of a social thing for me. I go out with all my friends and they eat and drink and eat and drink for hours! And sometimes I admit I miss being able to do that with them. Sometimes I get really upset that I can't do that anymore because I feel like the odd man out. But I am so much healthier, I look and feel so much better so I don't regret my decision. I know in the long run that this will be the best thing for me and I hope eventually I won't have that upset feeling when going out with all my friends.

    Question..

I have heard a lot of people mix PB with their chocolate protein but just remember to look at the fat, sugar, and calories and calculate that into your calorie count for the day.

    scared in ways

As long as you can breathe you should be fine. I would keep trying to take small sips of water. Richard is right if the pill was stuck it would have dissolved by now. You are probably just feeling some residual swelling. I would call your doctor in the AM if it hasn't resolved.

    soooo

I will be honest I was bad and attempted a sip of soda. I felt like I was gonna die... it hurt so bad and that feeling lasted about 10 minutes. I swore I would never drink another sip of soda again. I didn't believe my surgeon when he said that the carbonation bubbles would be painful and boy was I wrong. I'm glad that I had that experience though because it taught me a lot and I know that water and crystal light and other low calorie drinks are so much better for me.

    Incisions...

If there was a tear in the tissue it could have bled and the hard knot that forms is called a hematoma. It is just a build up of clotted blood under the skin and it is normal. It could take a few weeks to go away. That's just one likely possibility.

    Question..

Diet Snapple (Peach Tea) is really good as well.

    So gross...

My nutritionist and surgeon said no tomoato soup because of the acid. He said it would make my stomach hurt really bad so haven't even attempted it.
  18. Rhody I just had an EGD yesterday as well. I really hope that they can figure out what is going on. Please keep us updated, Good luck Monday!
  19. Hi, I was sleeved January 9th, 2013. Everything seemed to be going well, I was struggling to get in all my fluid and protein but I was assured this was normal in the first few weeks and to keep working hard. At my one month post op I was talking to my surgeon about how exhausted I was. I was always tired and wanting to sleep. It was a struggle to even get up and take a shower. Also I was very dizzy and shaky. He asked if I was getting 1000 calories minimum a day and I laughed... No I wasn't, I couldn't even eat 2-4 oz of food and I was getting at most 400 calories a day. He went on to explain at this point I should be eating 8 oz per meal and getting 1000-1200 calories a day! What!? He then put me on a very high dose prednisone steroid for 7 days to see if I just had some residual post op swelling that could be preventing me to eat. He also wanted me to drink ensure (for more calories) and to eat higher calorie foods for that time frame as well. Might would've worked if I could get things in. Also I did not have any vomiting, only nausea when trying to stuff it all down. I still can't eat and I still feel awful. My body hurts all the time and I am having trouble everyday. Now my surgeon believes my sleeve could be "to tight" and he wants to perform an EGD and stretch out my stomach so I can handle eating more food. I'm hesitant... I know I need to be able to eat but I also don't want to fail before I've even started because of stretching the sleeve out. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
  20. Just an update... My surgeon did an EGD yesterday. He said the area where my esophagus turned into my stomach was very narrow as well as the area where the stomach bends toward the intestines. He decided to dilate both areas. He also said he seen stomach spasms while doing the EGD so he gave me Reglan and said that would help with the spasms. Hopfully this will help and I will start feeling better in the next few days and be able to really utilize my sleeve. Thank you all for the advice and support, it was really needed.

    Weak and shaky

I have had this same problem for 5 weeks. But I was unable to get fluids or food down, only around 2 oz at a time. My surgeon just did an EGD yesterday to stretch open parts of my sleeve that had narrowed too much. Trying increasing your fluid and protein intake that should help.

    Pain after I eat?

I am 5 weeks post-op as well and I was having the same issue. My doctor believed I was having stomach spasms so he put me on Reglan and that has really helped.
  23. Have they done any tests to see what is going on? An EGD or CT Scan? Have they tried to reintroduce food now that you haven't eaten in weeks?
  24. Wow that's wonderful. I have had problems getting anything down since my surgery! I think you will start to feel more restriction as you go through your different stages. Good luck!

    Ok Women?

I probably shouldn't comment bcause I have never had kids or a c-section but I thought I could tell you a little about how it felt after I was sleeved. For me the first night was the worst and I was lucky that my surgeon gave me a pain pump with morphine that I was allowed to push myself. This really helped take the edge off. What got me was movement. I tended to hurt much worse when trying to roll over, get out of bed, or get off the couch. Anything that worked those abdominal muscles was uncomfortable. Also I had previously had the lapband so I have an extra incision that they removed my port from and that was the one that hurt the worst. Also I was a nurse in the OR for many years. Try not to worry about being put to sleep. Before you leave the pre-op area they will give you a medicine called Versed (similar to valium but stronger) and it will really help you relax. You probably won't remember much after that either because it has amnesic properties. Ask for a scope patch as well. It goes behind your ear and is helpful in preventing nausea and vomiting. You can leave this on for 3 days. I did and it really helped. Hope this helps and good luck!
