Has Anyone Started The Liquid Diet?
waitingpatiently replied to Yolanda Swing-banks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I wont lie it hasn't been the easiest thing I have ever done, but each day is better than the last. I am on day 9 of the diet and have 7 more days. (i started a day or two early to make sure I could drink those Protein drinks) The first 3 days were rough!! had a head ache, very weak and just felt awfull.....but I just commented to my husband yesterday as we were walking through walmart that I felt like I had a little more spring in my step. I guess its the 17 pounds I have lost (7 on the pre-op diet). Just that little bit seems to have made a difference. Hang in there.....one member (Xavier) put it best..... This is the last diet you will ever be on!! -
Thank You B-52!! Well said. I might not have one foot in the grave, but I am standing a little too close to the opening. I have a horrible family history heart disease, diabetes etc......and my parents aren't overweight!!! so my health is compounded with my additional pounds. I may not be the heaviest person on this site....but over the last 18 months I have seen my health decline dramatically!!! I am too young to die.....or even worse have a stroke that leaves me a vegetable!! I have a family to take love and care for. My father had his first heart attack at the age of 45.....and would have considered him in good shape (except that at that time he smoked)...but physically he was at his peak. So if these are the genes I bring to the table I better get my act together. I may be only 40 but I feel 70. Something is different this time. I will be successfull!!! there is no other option....besides a early death. Thanks for the reality check. I just motivates me more to know that others have done it. And i will too.

Help...post Op Grocery List...
waitingpatiently replied to tammyg1969's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No problem...just inbox me your email and I'll send it over....or is there a way to send it to you on here? I'll check and see. -
both bananas and peanut butter are listed on my mushie list.....I would melt the peanut butter in the microwave and then drizzel it over 1/2 a banana. You really wouldn't be using a large amount and will be able to satisfy your craving (if that is what it is)

Wanna Come To My Pity Party? :)
waitingpatiently replied to TracieR's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hi Tracie, Infertility is definitely something I know about. It took me 4 years to get pregnant with my first daughter.....and i was skinney then. There is NOTHING anyone can say to make it better. It isn't fair!!! I looked around and saw all these horrible parents smacking their kids and yelling at them...but yet I couldn't have one. I had one pregnant family member (who didn't know my situation say, that if baby wasn't a boy she would abort it!! ---It just isn't fair. BUT, now that a have my children...3 of them!!! I joking tell people that hindsight is 20/20.....God KNEW the children that he had picked out for me to love and raise and He KNEW I wasn't ready for them. So He gave me a few extra years to mature. In hindsight, I am glad that a had that extra couple years. I know you can't see it, but just trust that there is a reason that it isn't time yet....maybe its a health reason, or something else. Just focus on loving your son. It will happen. If you conceived once, you surely can do it again......just have fun practicing!! -

Ladies if you bring up your facebook page, then go to the address bar highlight and copy the info, then paste that on the LB site (instead of your facebook name). Your friends can then just click on the link and it will take them straight to your page. Hope that helps. Tina -
Having A Really Hard Day!!!
waitingpatiently replied to tammyjo85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! I needed to hear that! I'm struggling today as well. I"m only 4 days in, but today was a real challeng. I had pre-op appointments this morning that had to fasting.....no Protein shake. that was at 8:45. Then they sent me to another apointment at 10am. By the time I got home it was almost 1pm. Thats 19 hours without anything!! it would be that big of a deal two weeks ago, but when you are living on 600 calories a day I was stakey and starving. I broke down and ate my lean cusine meal for lunch instead of dinner. So now I know I will be hungry at dinner .....................and a shake aint going to cut it. Lesson learned: Don't let your doctor schedule things back to back like that!! This diet is such a mind game and when someone shakes your day up, its hard to keep your head in the game. I'm being positive one bad day doesn't undo everything else. I have lost 16 pounds since December. And 6 of them have just been from Sunday. 1 more pound and I will actually see the "teens". Hang in there friends. Xavier is so right!!! This IS the last diet of my life!!!! -
Pre-op Apointments in the morning.....Its starting to feel real now....11 days to go.

Am I The Exception To The Rule???
waitingpatiently replied to stuigi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im glad that you have adjusted so well. I know that it feels better to go ahead and eat rather than taking the baby steps the surgeon has requested, but I think the plan is two fold.....yes he wants to make sure your stomach can hald the food (the last thing you want to do is have a vomit spell) but two I think by starting out with the liquids, then purees, then mushies....You are allowing your body to adjust to less food.Allowing your body to get used to consuming and digesting less. Plus a know 21 pounds are awesome!! And that is something to be proud of......but I wonder what it would have been if you had stuck to the plan. -
same here. My dietian said 1200 would be the goal. I do very close to that now (1300) and still gain weight. I will need to be under 1000 to lose anything. I have been at 900 since december and have only lost 11 pounds (but 4 of those have been since I started the pre-op diet 3 days ago. So apparently if I only consume 500 calories a day I can actually lose like a normal person.

Welcome Mandagay!! I think you have landed in the right place!. This group is awesome!! You have those that have completed their jouney, those that are well on theri way, and those of us that are newbies.....so there is someone here to give advise, encouragement or just listen for every step of the way.

I understand your flustration. I felt very much the same. I have been told very little about what to eat, drink etc. for pre-op and after surgery. It has been very much a learning process. Make a pest out of yourself!. I have learned from working in health care that the squeaky wheel gets the attention. That doesn't mean rude.....but it is very hard to ignor a patient if they are trying to understand what they need to do to be compliant.

Ok. I need help. I start my pre-op diet in 4 days.Followed by Surgery on the March 15. Although I do like my surgeon, I feel I have been left to sink or swim when it comes to what I really need to have on hand for bothe the pre-op and especially for the first couple weeks after surgery. I told to drink 2 protein drinks a day and either a very small dinner or a lean cusine. So I have gathered from other posts that the powder protein mixes are better than the premixed stuff. And it looks like Primere(?) Brand at Sams is a good choice. So that will get me through the pre-op. But what about post op? What should I consider having on hand that will help me get through the first week or two on a liquid diet. I know I need vitamins (seems like several bandsters like flintstones) any certain brand of calcium better than others? I thought I would get broth, tea, diet fruit juice, popsicles, can anyone add to my list? Thanks for your help, the last thing I want to be thinking about is going to the store the first week or two.
-
I started my pre-op officially this morning. Yesterday I got a head start so I could make sure I would like the Protein shakes and stuff. I thought the ones yesterday were good enough. so I wasn't too worried about having something to drink. But this morning I tried two other recipes and thought they were awfull and had to pour them out. I went back to the one I made yesday. I fing it odd how different everyones diet is. Some hardly have anything to do excapt a liquid diet the night before where othere seem to be on a very strict shakes only diet. I would be curious to know how much difference it makes.

Started Preop Diet Today
waitingpatiently replied to tammyjo85's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Protein drinks can be bought just about anywhere from walmart to your local health store or even on line. They are either in powder form and can be mixed into different liquids to create drinks or they come premixed for convenience. -
9 Mths. And Only 30Lbs Down :(
waitingpatiently replied to Tab41's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First lets look at the positive. 9 months out and you are down 30 lbs!! I know we all invision massive weight loss instantly (me too). But we were told that 1 pound a week is good. It is also a positive factor that you reconize that you aren't doing everything you should be doing.....thats better than being in denial and "forgetting" that you haven't been compliant. I would suggest that you call your doctor and see if he can refer you to someone close to where you are for a fill. Then until you can get in, stick to a low carb diet as much as possible. And the most important thing I think you need to do......plug back into this support site. The more you are involved the more support you will have. You can get through this.....its just a pothole. Keep your eyes set on the goal and it will happen. Just don't procrastinate...call the doctor today. Good luck!
