Calling All Runners! Question For You!
waitingpatiently replied to Taterlynn's topic in Fitness & Exercise
The fact that one week you are able to run without getting winded and then all of a sudden the next week you can't, signals me that you need to see your GP to make sure nothing else is going on. It is one thing to have a hard time getting back up to pace after a break, but if you feel like you had got back into the swing of things after taking a 4 week break and then are having issues.....doesn't sound like it is an endurance issue. Get a check up just to make sure. -

Slow Weight Loss
waitingpatiently replied to BandedNeakyMinx12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try not to put to much pressure on yourself while you are healing. The 11pounds is awesome!! When you are able to have more control over what you eat, I'm sure you will be successful! I'm actually looking forward to the solid stage....The post op diet is very carb friendly and not Protein friendly--except for the shakes and since my surgery on March 19 I have only lost 7 pounds where before that I was able to keep to a high protein/low carb diet and lose about a pound almost every day ! So I can't wait to get the green light to realy food so I can return to the high protein/ low carb way of life. Ketosis is a wonderful thing! Hang in there! -
Pre-Op Testing Scheduled And Nervous
waitingpatiently replied to colleenjoy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It normal to start second guessing your decision when the time comes to make the jump. I know I did. I had started to loose weight on the pre-op diet and suddenly began to rethink the idea that maybe this time I could do it on my own and keep the weight off. -----But then I realized I was just self sabotaging myself. I am assuming you have done your research. You know all the pros and all the cons of having this done. So don't make an emotional decision. But an educated one. and then stick to it. It will all work out. I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out, and I can tell this the absolute best thing I have done! wish I would have done it 2 years ago when I first thought about it. -

I Had My Lap Band March 19Th
waitingpatiently replied to nursenetty11's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ok....Let me put some thought into it this afternoon on how it might work best, and when I get home this evening I'll put something out there. If you have any suggestions as to what would make this work for everyone let me know. My first thought is that it might work well if we each have an assigned buddy. That way we could participate in the group thread but also would have someone to give us personal attention as well. ---We could even rotate our buddies every couple of weeks that way we get to know each other on a personal level. ---Would that be something you guys would be ok with? -

Need To Shrink My Liver **help**
waitingpatiently replied to new beginnings03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The best way to shrink your liver is by removing most carbs from your diet. The body uses carbs to make glucose for fuel. If you deprive it of carbs, it must use its back up plan of turning fat into glucose. This process is called ketosis. During ketosis the body will turn to burning the fat around the organs first (your liver)...thus shirking it. Depending on how strict you are with the diet you can lose a significant amount of weight quickly because the body will be using a lot of calories to turn fat into glucose. -

Any Luck With Saltine Crackers
waitingpatiently replied to Kristie_melvin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
crakers aren't liquid....be careful......I actually called and got permission to move up to mushies on day 9 due to low sugars.....I hadn't had any problems what so ever in drinking the liquids. So she allowed me to begin the mushies, at the same time I added exercise to my schedule. the very first day i went out and walked 2miles, when I got back i was very thristy and went to drink some water and was very suprised when it didn't go down. That was not a good experience. I guess the exercise cause some swelling . Same thing happen the next day. Has that happen to anyone else? Are there other events/things that just make the band swell like that?....I don't have any fluid in the band so it has to be just swelling. -
Help! Wavering With Hypoglycemia Six Days Postop
waitingpatiently replied to dacer123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After 9 days of a liquid post-op diet, I began having low sugar levels.....like 50. I called the dietian and she asked me a few questions (making sure I wasn't having any swelling ) and then allowed me to move up to the mushie stage...that did it....now everything is back to normal..... Give your sugeons office a call first......you don't want to jump ahead and then have bigger issues. -
March Bandsters!
waitingpatiently replied to princess77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Dermabond...doctor said not to get them soaked ...like in the bath tub, but it would be fine if they got a little wet, just to make sure to pat them dry. When I had stitches for something else I was told to keep them dry, so I would put a water proof bandage over them Same thing with the stri-strips. -
Same here! I was telling my husband yesterday that i didn't know if it was the 24 pounds that I have lost or the high protein/low carb diet, but I feel great!!

Try the unjury chicken broth. Its pretty good and the 20 grams of protein help tame your hunger. -
Is This Normal??
waitingpatiently replied to Kristih's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same experience. I was afraid to weigh because clothes that were a little big before surgery were a little tight after. But I decided I just had to know and to my suprise I had lost 8 pound in the first week! So I figured that I must still be swelling around my mid section. Plus I can tell I still have some water weight, because my wedding ring is a little tight as well. -

Carbs And Protein.....2 Weeks Post Op
waitingpatiently replied to goosie17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Goosie17....be patient. I know its hard, but you are only 2 weeks post-op. I'm only 1 week postop I have only lost 5 pounds but I know I still am retaining Water too. Theses few few weeks need to be about giving our bodies what it needs to heal. And because we are on a liquid/puree/mushie diet, most of our foods will be coming from carbs. When you get the green light to eat "real" food, then I would suggest you cut back on your carbs. Diabetics must keep their carbs at no more than 125. I was keeping mine at no more than 50 b4 surgery and would like to return to that when I see real food again. My body works nicely at 800cal/60+protein/40carb. I was loosing about a pound a day. But thats me....you should speak with your surgery teams to see what they think. Was your PA for your general practioner or for your surgeon? -
Some doctors have a strict post op diet of just liquids...others not so much. I am trying to stick to the diet as much as possible....but I have taken to eating foods that are thicker. They stay with me longer and I feel so much better. I walked 2 miles yesterday...probably over did it a little, but it was nice to get out in thesunshine.
-
I am on a full liquid diet this week...so mostly blenderized soup, thinned out yogurt, thinned out oatmeal.....sfpudding, sf jello. Next week I will be on pureed foods. How about you? Have you started any exercise yet?
-
Hi gauri, Welcome to the group!! There are alot of great people on here willing to help you find your way during this adventure we are all on. I was actually banded the same day you were. I would be glad to give support and share experiences feel free to inbox message me anytime.

How Much Protien For You A Day?
waitingpatiently replied to Journey2Healthy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctoor wants at least 60 grams. I have become a fan of New whey. It has 42 grams Protein in 4oz. It tastes like kool-aid. You can buy a few flavors at walmart for 2.50. You can look at the product at www.newwhey.com I mix 1 newwhey with crystal light and then mix it with about 10 oz Water then pour it over crushed ice......I split it into 2 servings. -
If you decide to use them, get them from walmart. They don't carry all the flavors, but they are not nearly as pricy.

Differences In Post-Op Diets
waitingpatiently posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im just curious. I found when I was going through the pre-op diet, everyone had something different their doctors told them to do. Some were told to do nothing, others were told follow a adkins/south beach diet......some like me where put on 2 Protein shakes a day and a light meal for dinner.....and then others (bless their hearts) were put a strict all liquid diet. So now that we are all on the other side, how different are the post op diets for the first few weeks? I'm 2 weeks liquid only followed by 2 week puree follwed by 2 more weeks of mushie
