New To The Low Carbs And Need Help, Please!!
waitingpatiently replied to Marla290's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi marla, I agree those numbers sound great!!. I try to stay about 800 calories/60+protein/-30carbs. I will try to keep the carbs to less than 30 and will only eat them at one meal not spread throughout the day. I love sausage....so I have been eating 1 jimmydean Turkey sauage patty for lunch it has 60calories/3.5fat/0carbs/6.5protein and I have really enjoyed every bite!! I use net carbs....meaning that if a food has 10 carbs you can subtract whatever is listed under Fiber from the carbs...so if it had 3 fiber you would only count 7 for carbs. If you don't already have something to track calories/protein and carbs, I would suggest the myfitnesspal....you can set a goal for each. -
Stuck For The First Time :(
waitingpatiently replied to tammyg1969's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok this sounds silly...but I actually did the same thing on lunch meat last week at a friends house....I was talking and eating and forgot to chew, chew ,chew...I knew instantly what I had done. I actually started to break out in a sweat!!...I felt it in my back something aweful....I didn't know what to do...and realy didn't want her to know what was going on so when she went down stairs to get the laundry I went and hung myself off the bed kind of upside down. the gravity made the food come back up.....Worked....not for sure if it happens again how many places will have a place for me to hang upside down, but just another technique we can put in our arsonal for another time-haha Hope you are feeling better now -
Urge To Over Eat
waitingpatiently replied to Claudia8498's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have noticed a significant decrease in my hungar since the surgery. (excluding the 2 week liquid post-op diet----My stomach growled so hard for so long it was actually painful!) 3 weeks out (today)I have cut back to 2 (food) meals a day. each about 250 calories and 2 protein shakes for a total of 300 calories (or for the day its 800calories/60protein/30carbs) With very little effort. I didn't think he put any fluid in my band during surgery, but something has changed. My first fill is the 26th. -
Foods To Eat & Foods To Stay Away
waitingpatiently commented on Kalberda's blog entry in Kalberda's Blog
Hi Kelly, Im sorry things are rough right now. How long has it been this way? What things are you trying to eat? Are you following the rules....chew,chew, chew? Have you spoke to your doctor? Is it possible to need an unfill? Sorry for all the questions...but it helps to have a few more details when giving advise. Hang in there I'm sure things will get better. -
Anyone Successful After A Bad Start?
waitingpatiently replied to PixiePower's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Pixie Power....don't feel that way. It will just make things worse for yourself. Tomorrow is a brand new day!! You just need to get your head in the game! Think about what things are making you stumble? Do you have those foods in the house? Is it a certain time of day or month that is making it hard on you? Are there certain people who sabatage you? There are two times that I have learned that will derail me in a heart beat. 1. If i go too long and get VERY hungry, then I will automatically start eating the most convenient foods that I can get my hands on. Im like this almost every Monday....I leave the house early and won't be home until late....when I walk in the door I could be fit tot be tied...So now I will make me a snack and have it ready in the frig ...so when I walk in the door I have a healthy snack ready to eat while I make dinner. 2. That horrible one week a month!! I can undo 2-3 weeks worth of work in that one week!! Most of the time the chips or carbs that are in the pantry won't bother me...but when that week comes!! look out....So now about a week ahead of time I throw it all away!! or I just won't buy anything that week that I will want. So the answer to your question, Yes you can still be a success. But you have got to figure out what your triggers are and figure out a way to avoid them. You can do this!!! Change your mindset to "failure is NOT an option" if you have a bad....you had a bad day....move on and refocus. -
Eating During 1St Post Op Week
waitingpatiently replied to jesscaba's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is a list I put together befoe my surgery.....If you inbox me your email I will be glad to send it to you so you can print it out. I have tried numerous times to attach it to this site some how, but it just won't work. Just remember every doctor is different and where I put something may not be where your doctor would put it. Digital food scale Bathroom Scale Blender (consider the ones that you can blend using a travel mug) I bought this one at walmart for $79 http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=0&ic=48_0&Find.x=0&Find.y=0&Find=Find&_ta=1&search_query=ninja%20kitchen%20system%20pulse&_tt=ninja Chewable Calcium Chewable Daily Vitamin Gas X Liquid Tylenol Benefiber (I mix this with the kellog’s Protein mix below)http://www.walmart.com/ip/Benefiber-Kiwi-Strawberry-Flavored-Fiber-Drink-Mix-Stick-Packs-24ct/17325206 Metamucil Clean and Clear Stage 1 Clear Liquids Protein Power: This is just going to be trail an error. Looks like the most popular are (unjury, Jay Robin, Premiere, NewWhey Canned chicken broth (the night before your surgery, consider simmering it with some veggies like carrots, onions, potatoes, even some of your favorite herbs. I would leave all the veggies in the broth until the next day. Then have someone strain them off, saving the broth for you) Favorite Soups Consider lower salt versions(use the larger size cans of Soup if they make them in your band. Then mix a couple of cans of chicken or beef broth with your favorite soup. simmer and strain) SF Jello (both premade for convenience and boxed for when you feel like making it) SF Popsicles Pedialyte Popsicles Kellogs Water ready protein mix (link below) http://www.walmart.com/ip/Special-K2O-Strawberry-Kiwi-Protein-Water-Mix-4.7-oz-10ct/10891803 SF Water Flavors (Crystal Light, Great Value, Etc) Gatorade G2 or Propell Hebal Tea Diet Fruit Juices NSA-Carnation Instant Breakfast Mix Skim Milk Stage 1-Full Liquid -All of the above+ Cream Soups (thinned with water or skim milk) (consider sprinkling ½ scoop of unflavored protein power into soup and blend…watch the temp of the soup….the protein power may clump at high temps.) SF pudding (premixed for convenience and boxed for later) Yogurt (thinned out) (light or greek) blend well Baby Foods (add a jar of baby food fruit with your Protein Powder and thin with water or skim milk) Stage 2-Puree Egg Substitute Oatmeal (thinned) Grits (thinned) Applesauce other Fruit sauces Canned Fruit- juice packed Instant Mashed -

Help Please With Interpretations Of Lab Results
waitingpatiently replied to Puppypaws57's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Its been a long time since reading these types of reports but I'll give it a try. but it really doesn't look that bad. He is just noting a couple of lesions that are present on several frams...(meaning that it wasn't just a freak occurance and is actually there) most likely caused by the sever reflux. He notes that the first part of the intestines is normal. that the duodenum takes a slightly different path...(but thats probably fine....just different than the average person) and doesn't follow the same path as it would be exspected.......(if you haven't had huge problems in the past with your bowels, then it probably isn't an issue.....if you have then this twisting could be the cause.....but again A LOT of people could have this and don't even know it and would never be an issue. Then he concludes that even though a "twisting" is seen, the bowel appears to be open and the barium is flowing normally. He feels if necessary, the lesions could be viewed with endoscopy. The bowel malrotation can be viewed with a ct scan of the pelvis and abdomen. so in other words.......don't worry Nothing is jumping out that you have something terribly wrong. or an emergency. -
My Lap-Band Journey :)
waitingpatiently replied to Mayleneleslie87's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have a daughter that is 17 and she is very mature. She is struggling with a lot of the same issues I did like PCOS. I don't think it should be your first option....It isn't a easy way out. But if you have underline issues that are keeping you from getting the weight off and have tried the other convential ways like weight watchers and south beach....then I definately think it is worth exploring....I wouldn't want you to wait another 5 years and gain more weight and end up with serious health problems. Just really take the time to educate yourself......make sure you are mentally and emotionally ready to make such a big decision. And listen to your mama!! Your mama knows you better than anyone else....if she feels like this is something you can handle, then I would support it....if she thinks it isn't the right time for you....then listen to her and take another year and try other methods to get the weight off. -
Hang in there! It could just be a billing code error. It will all work out. And if your do have to switch doctors hopefully everything will still count...just don't miss any of your 6 month supervized diet apptointments.....they will make you start all over.

Feeling Weak Today
waitingpatiently replied to johnnycantrock's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Might want to check your sugar as well. I'm not diabetic, but was feeling really sluggish around day 8 of just liquids....I borrowed my mother in laws glucose meter and my sugar was 52.....so no wonder I was feeling so bad.High protein/low carb is a great approach and I actually keep my carbs at around 30 BUT that being said....I think the post-op time is more about healing and if you need carbs to do that then I would eat them (at least the good carbs). In a week or two you can switch to the high protein/low carb diet. -
Oh man !! Now I WANT a golden egg!!!-hahaha.....................I had sf jello

Hi Everyone!! Newly Banded!!
waitingpatiently replied to dmacdub's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was hungry 6 hours after surgery!!haha....maybe not quite 6 hours after surgery.....but I sure didn't get any of the swelling that most others experienced....kind of wish I had.....might have made the 2WEEK liquid post-op go just a little faster. But I made it and so will you.Hang in there drink those protein shakes just as soon as you are allowed ....they are a little nasty ,especially when you are limited as to what you can do to them during this time, but they do hold off the hungry pains a little. -

First Day Of Liquid Diet.. Challenging!
waitingpatiently replied to c945105's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Cyndi, I sympathize.....That would be very hard to do. I always do a big easter dinner. And this year I just didn't feel up to it. I wasn't going to do much of anything, but my husbands family is so used to coming each year, they called last night and asked if they needed to bring anything......I thought....a ham, mashed potatoes, mac& cheese...etc....since I wasn't making anything.--haha well I felt so bad, I told them we were keeping it simple this year, burgers on the grill......so off to the grocery store I went....but at least its low carb....I'm only doing burgers, turkey dogs for me and roasted squash and zuchine...no chips, no dessert.....it might be enough change that they won't come back---haha -
March Bandsters!
waitingpatiently replied to princess77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi cottonbarry and VioletC I use myfitnesspal daily.....you can find me at the same username:waitingpatiently -
Welcome bandedbera, Hang in there! its going to get better! I would encourage you to try to stay on the post op diet.....It was really hard I know, but not only did it give my stomach time to heal, it also helped me break the carb addiction and I think it helped my stomach shrink (if thats really possible) because I surely can't eat what I used to. Keep trying, even if you slipped up and had something you shouldn't of, just start over at the next meal.

At The Store Right Now...help Please.
waitingpatiently replied to Passionatehrt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would go with hard chewable instead of the gummies. -
Hi mija4life12, A lot will have to do with your insurance....they set the rules. Most require a bmi of 40 or 35 with a comorbidity like sleep apnea, diabitese, high blood pressure. Some require a 3 or 6 month supervized diet. Others require nothing. And Most are required to attend a band seminar. Most will be required to see a pychologist and nutritionist and will havea varity of tests done including blood work and ekg's. After you have jumped through all the insurance hoops then they will send all your paperwork and tests to the insurance and they will review it and decide if you are a good candidate. That can be done in as little as 24 hours or as long as 6 weeks....I think the average is somewhere in between probably like 2-4 weeks. But in the mean time, take this time to educate yourself and the band and make sure this is a life style you can embrace and committ to. Go a head and get your head in the game and start establishing new routines that include exercise and eliminating bad food habits from your diet....1 thing at a time.....that way you won't feel like everything changes all at the same time.

Gain Help?.
waitingpatiently replied to flab u less's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wow flab u less!! Im not an expert, but 300-400 calories doesn't seem like enough!! I would be falling over at that number. Are you loosing inches? I have noticed I haven't had these huge weight loss that some are experiencing, but my clothes are bigger and I have went from a size 20 to a size 16. I had my surgery on the 19th and I can still tell there are times that, for what ever reason, I'm retaining Water....my wedding ring is usually very loose and there are times when it is hard to get off. So some could be that. I would suggest you eat a little more.....(not for sure about the starvation mode). But also It seems like you are trying to stick to a high protein/low carb diet which is what I am doing with good results, but my numbers are more like 800calories/60 protein/30 carbs I have lost about 26 pounds in 4 weeks. but we all are different. But although yogurt and cottage cheese are good for you, they do have carbs. Keep up the good work!! You are going to wake up one day and see that you have lost several pounds over night and wonder how that could have happened!! The body is a mysterious thing. Im proud of you for working to establish your routine that includes good eating habits and exercise. Thats half the battle. -
I Need Some New Ideas To Get This Weight Off Quicker
waitingpatiently commented on Shellie Anderson's blog entry in Shellie Anderson's Blog
80 pounds is awesome!! I know you want it gone now, but it looks like you are doing a great job! Congrats! I know lovethenewme said to keep your calories at 1200, but I actually will gain at 1200 calories.....of course I was just banded so I haven't worked up to 60 mins of cardio yet. If I could, I would probably need those extra calories.--hahah Until then, I have been sticking to a very strict 800 calories/60 protein/ 30carbs....and I have been having great sucess. about 26 pounds in 4 weeks -
I dreamed of food too!!! I have never done that before!!

How Long Did You Stay Home Post-Surgery ?
waitingpatiently replied to Dzire's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me a good 10 day to feel "good" But I did have a hyatial hernia and umbilical hernia and a lot of adhessions removed...so maybe the extra stuff made me more sore. -
Just Banded And Wondering About Liquid Intake...
waitingpatiently replied to NewMissB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there! This too will pass. As long as you are getting something down you will probably be ok. They pump you full of those fuilds while your in so that you can go a few days with very little to drink. Just keep taking little sips all day long. I remember my doctor telling me it was going to take me 16 hours a day to get all my Water in and that was my #1 job. so sip, sip ,sip We'll be praying for you
