Vegetables
waitingpatiently replied to Claudia8498's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During pre-op I stuck to the low carb veggies. I would put spinach in my broth and would eat celery, broccoli, cucumbers as my other veggetable serving. -
Success - Sometimes Bitter Sweet?
waitingpatiently replied to ditzypoohjean's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I think its all in the way we carry ourselves. I was actually skinney until about 8 years ago....I have had a few encounters with people who were judging me because I wasn't a average size....but I noticed that I didn't put myself out there anymore when I became heavy.............I would constantly judge myself, so why would I expect others not to. -
Question Number 2
waitingpatiently replied to gingerwale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What type job you got that they make you do sit-ups!! Thats crazy!! I wouldn't attempt it...even if you could do a couple....you might not pass the minium. But you may need an excuse note from your doctor. -
Question For The Ladies

I think the tampons would be ok....but it might hurt a little more tending to them the first few days...A pad might be easier but you could try. -
Pre-Op Testing Scheduled And Nervous
waitingpatiently replied to colleenjoy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm so sorry about your loss...that probably makes the decision even harder.....I get that. The surgery is not without risk.....BUT it is minimal.........I had the same kind of feelings...I even had a close cousin die shortly after having WSL-sleeve at the age of 42....so that played heavily on my mind.....but heres the thing....I could notice my health detoriating the last 18 months......I could no longer do the things I used to....I actually started to fear that I might not be here 10 years from now.......So I KNEW I was headed to an early grave if I didn't do this.....where the odds off something happening during the surgery is so minimal.............I was good with it. I'm only a little over 3 weeks out and I feel like I have turned back the hands of time....I already feel 5 years younger!! I see myself getting stronger EVERY day. At 10 days out, it took me 45 mins to walk 2 miles.....Yesterday, at day 24....I did it in less than 30 mins!!!Next week I hope to have it done to 25 min. I have been able to get back outside and kick the soccer bal around with the kids and play some basketball with my son!!!---It has been wonderfull. But the best part is......2 of my kids struggle with their weight. My son (13) sees me watching what I'm eating and exercising...and sees how much better I feel............suddenly he is educating himself on foods and doing crunches and the elliptical everyday....he has lost 12 pounds in the last 3 weeks!!! My daughter who is 17 was just diagnosed with the PCOS like I have 2 months ago....she is really struggling to get the weight off, but she is trying.....she is walking with me every day and had cut her carbs from probably 150 a day to 50....she has lost about 5 pounds....but its the habits she is making (and breaking) that will make the difference. My point is.......your kids will see you get health and maybe....with a little luck....you can break this cycle for them!! and they wont suffer with these problem when they are your age. -
Congrats!! Just to prepare you, I felt worse on day 3 and 4. But it felt more like it was from the hernia repairs ( I had 2, 1 hyatial, 1 umbilical) plus I had a lot of adhessions removed. Just be prepared...I felt like I was a little abnormal compared to others that seemed to bounce right back.

What Would You Do??
waitingpatiently replied to Passionatehrt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was under the weather the day of surgery....I didn't have a fever, so I went ahead with it. Like dhales...I woke up feeling a lot better (in regards to the cold/allergies) of course it might be that thing where if you have a paper cut how it bugs you a hundred times during the day, but then if your hit my a mac truck....the paper cut doesn't seem to matter anymore!!---hahaha If you don't have a fever, then I would go through with it....its probably allergies. -
Can I Lose 9 Pounds Before Next Friday?
waitingpatiently replied to running_scared's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need the protein.....I wouldn't give those up. Just make sure you find one with the biggest bang for your calorie. If you stay on liquids I don't think the laxative will work. They make over the counter water pills, that may take a pound off. But be carefull, don't get dehydrated. -

Telling Friends And Family
waitingpatiently replied to Bel12's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I was to just tell people if they asked and I told my family. My husband even asked what I wanted him to say to people at his work....I told him the same thing. Then my husband , trying to keep eveyone informed, put it on faceook. So then everyone knew from those that I went to school with 25 years ago to my students in my classes. I wasn't trying to be private about it, but there is a difference in telling people and telling the PEOPLES!! Anyway I deleted his posts when I found out a cople of days later, but a large group obviously now know....which is ok.....He didn't mean any harm...he just wasn't thinking....he knew I was going to tell people so he thought it was ok..........MEN sometimes. I'm still a little angery....but trying not to be. -

My Visit With My Pcp...ugh!
waitingpatiently replied to justathing2me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My 17 year old daughter has PCOS and her doctor just put her on a high dose 2000mg a day to help with getting her weight off. She broke her foot about a year ago and had to quit teaching dance because it hurt so much. She gained 60 pounds this year. He told her that it was at the top of his priorty list to get the weight off her however possible before she become diabetic or ruins her chances of having children and he hoped the metformin would help. She has only been on it about 3 weeks, but hasn't lost but about 3 pounds. I hate watching her go through the same thing I deal with...but at such a younger age. I was able to keep the weight issue at bay until about 8 years ago. -
What Ti Say To My Co Workers..
waitingpatiently replied to CookiePuss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats what I was worried about.....at first I was just going to tell my family, (you know, you have that little fear that you will fail...then everyone would think you can't even lose the weight with surgery). Then I thought but if im successful, I would surely want to share what made it possible.....and if you tell one person, you might as well tell them all...because people just can't keep a secrete. And I'm not good with the half truth thing I just couldn't face people that kept asking me How I'm loosing the weight and I tell them eat right and exercise....then they find out I had a wsl surgery.....I would feel wrong. And besides, whats wrong with it...we act like its something to be a shamed of. Most people paticipate in some activity that is bad for them....smoking (would we look down on them if they went to be hypnotised?), Drinking (would we look down on them for seeking help?) I'm proud of ourselves!! we took control...we are doing what is neccesary to save our lives!! and if one other person can learn something from it ....then that would given be better. You have every right to keep it private!! But I hope that you have a few good people around you that will support you and cheer you on. Good luck! -
Sounds like you know what you have to do. You are a sucess!! So grit your teeth and tie up those shoes and get to work. You CAN do this!!! Just keep telling yourself "failure is not an option" if you are stumbling on certain foods...get them out of the house. Don't self-sabatage yourself this close to your goal!! I know you can do this!!! Let us know who you are doing.

To Measure Or Not. Will I Regret It If I Don't?
waitingpatiently replied to lifebegins2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have never heard of anyone that looks back and says " boy I wish I wouldn't have measured myself".......so do it, for some it will not be important.....for others it will be their strength in the slow times. But this way you are covered. And if you want them....you'll have them. -
Feeling A Little Discouraged
waitingpatiently replied to bluetigereyes's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Make sure you are getting enough Protein. And definately add some form of exercise to your day. It doesn't have to be much to start but its good to start establishing a routine. Get a beginner workout tape. Walk around your neighborhood, do wall push ups, walk up and down your steps 3 or 4 times....just move!! start with 15 mins...then work up to 30 and so on.. I made a deal with myself that while watching tv in the evenings, every commerical I must do some form of exercise......sit-up, wall push-ups, leg lifts, lifting weights.....if I watch tv for 2 hours thats comes to a 40 min workout. every little bit helps. -
Welcome to the group!!

Omg!! I Have To...
waitingpatiently replied to transforming jlaroux's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have 3 children 17,15,13....2 of which have weight issues....so this year I declared the Easter Bunny Dead!! he died of an over dose of candy!! They were too old for that crap years ago, but I would do it for fun each year. This year I gave them a pack of life savers and $5.....In addition, (my in-laws live with us....are are half the reason my kids are over weight.....done of them were when they moved in 7 years ago) I warned my in laws that They would be wasting their money if they bought them candy this year....I would be throwing it out before they even see it.....so instead I suggested they buy them movie tickets.....they did....... and we all were happy campers. -
Short Of Breath And Dizzy
waitingpatiently replied to cleescruggs's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I felt similar while in the hospital....everytime I would take a deep breath it would cause pain in my left lung. so I had to take short shallow breaths which made me feel like I was short on breath....it actually spent the nurses in a panic apparently that is a sign of a clot.....I knew it wasn't that...but then they had a hard time finding a pulse in my right foot...everyone jumped into action....I kept saying...I don't think its that bad!! but untill they found the pulse with a dopler machine and had a x-ray taken of my chest, I was watched like a hawk. Since you are only 4 days out, I think it would be worth a call to your doctor just to make sure he doesn't want to see you. But I'm I'm sure its probably just the gas settling around your lungs making it hard to breath. It should pass in a few days. Mine lasted about a week before it all went away. -
I walk 3 days a week with either my best friend or one of my teenage children......so on these days its a great time to talk. I have had some real meaningful conversations with my oldest daughter that will be headed off to college in the fall....its been very special. The other 3 days I tend to do the same thing as -justdoit- does....I like to watch TV while I do the elliptical. My first goal was to make it through a 30 min show and now I'm working to make it through a 60 min show. 1 day a week i end up doing some of the yard work.....its there I enjoy listening to the big hair bands of the 80's

Time To Reach Out And Say Hello
waitingpatiently replied to Navy Mom Molly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Were you following your post-op diet? all doctors are different, some advance their patients more quickly than others...so I was just wondering if you broke the rules, or if that was the post-op plan. I think advancing slowly does several things....first it does allow the stomach to rest and sutures to heal with out the weight of food pulling on them. Second---And what I noticed the most was it allowed be to break the carb addiction. after two weeks of the liquid pre-op diet and then the 2week of post-op diet I found that my cravings for carbs had decreased tremedously. Thirdly....I guess to some extent, our stomach most shrink a little. Just from previous diets I remember trying to have a bigger meal after I'd been following a small portion diet and you simply can't eat as much. But the stomach is a muscle and it does stretch and it would only take a few times and I would once again be able to eat the larger portions.--however, thats different from the "pouch" we have. If you don't have any restriction then the food is going straight to your actual stomach....its not until you have fills that the entrance to the full stomach is restricted...thats when you really need to be careful..if you eat too much, that food can't just fall to the full stomach it sits there at the band filtering in a little at a time. if you really over eat you can mess thing up and cause your band to slip. HAve you done any permant damage? probably not.....If you didn't follow the rules, then I would suggest maybe going back and doing them. a week of liquids might jump start your system. Then advance slowly.... if you feel the need to move on to a different stage than your doctor reccomended then call and ask him if you can move up. I had absolutely no issues, so at my 2 week post-op I asked if I could move on, he allowed me to do mushies for 2 day then advance to solids.....I wanted to get back to the low carb diet and purees and mushies are very carb friendly. Good Luck! -
Starting A Stall After Lap Band Surgery
waitingpatiently replied to kassy_360's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Some of you are really hard on yourselves!! I know we all want the weight to fall off... and we are working so hard, it should....but remember 1-2 pounds are normal. So 10 pounds a month is great!!! Thats 35,000calories!!! I agree with the mixing things up a little. Our bodies (and minds) get complacent and we need to keep them sharp!! Hang in there. We're going to get there!!!
