I was banded on 11/21/2011 & went for my first fill today. I had lost 17 pounds since surgery. :-) The Dr decided to check to see if I had any fluid in my band. I had 3cc's in it. He added 1/2 cc & the saliva and mucus started to flow. He removed the other 1/4, so that I back to the orginal 3cc. However, I have been vomiting every since. Could this be caused by swelling? I tried to take a phenagren, but it came right back up - Is this normal?

First Lap Band Fill Today And Still Vomiting
melgreen replied to melgreen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just read this on a lapband doctor's website - Before your Lap-band Adjustment We would prefer you not eat for two hours before the fill to allow the pouch to empty. While some would say longer, we find no evidence that this is helpful. Bands are tighter anytime you have swelling -- when you are ill, if you have a menstrual period, or if you have allergies. It is unwise to fill a person during these times -- although we can. http://drsimpson.net/fills/fill_factors/lap-band_fill_factors.htm So next time, i will follow these guidelines -
First Lap Band Fill Today And Still Vomiting
melgreen replied to melgreen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Back to my original post, after 10 hours of vommiting and a page to my doctor, it stopped around 4:00am. I called the dr back and cancelled the early am revisit to his office and have been fine since. I am down a total of 34 pounds, 24 since surgery. I just wonder if the reason i reacted was because i had a protein shake an hour before the adjustment. Is there any rule on eating before/after adjustments? -
Random "rolling" Pains
melgreen replied to Lanie M's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had problems keeping down the powdered protein drinks too. I was also told to avoid the ensure, and things like it because of the sugar content. I went back to my local GNC and got the Isopure that like Koolaid and did well with it to get my proteins in. (http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2612796 ) I also ordered a medical grade protein powder at http://www.unjury.com/store/protein/. They have a chicken soup flavor. Your pains are most likely gas. I had some strange ones that turned out to be gas. Try Gasx to see if that helps. And unfortunately, your broth, popsicles or sugar free jellos are going to be your main options right now. hang in there, it will get better. I am on my 4th week. -
New Bandster Can't Eat Hardly Anything! What Can I Do?
melgreen posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the lap band surgery November 21, 2011. I did great the first 3 days, but day 4 I vomitted most of the day after trying to eating oatmeal with milk. Day 5 was ok for the most part and then I started vomitting after eating 3 spoonfuls of cottage cheese. Looks as though I am lactose intolerant. After that, I couldnt even take the the Protein powder mixed with Water. I survived the weekend, but everyone told me that I looked like i had the flu. I called the Dr. on Monday and told them all the the problems that i had had, and they reccomended an alternative protein with the consistantcy of Kool-aid. I got some and can keep it down. The only other thing i have been able to eat well is cream of wheat. (it makes me really gassy after 3 meals of it) Another thing I have noticed is that if I follow the guidelines I was given; drinking 4-6 oz of liquid every hour and eating my 3 pkg's of cream of wheat at 9, 12, & 3, by 5pm - I can not eat anything else. I can get alittle more liquid down, but anything else makes me nauseated I am worried that I am not getting enough nurition. And to tell the truth, I have become very anxious over all this. Can someone please give me some suggestions? Thanks for any advise anyone can give me. Mel Green -

Great Info Everyone! I feel much better now. Everythng I read about the surgery said liquids for 2 to 3 weeks. I was quiet suprised/confused when my doctors booklet had me eating mushies the first week. Thanks for confirming what I thought all along.
