That's what happened to me. My doctor didn't mention it until maybe a week before my surgery, but all doctors are different. Give them a call next week, don't stress, it'll be fine.

I'm the same as Maci, no one ever told me not to use a straw. I was using a straw the day after surgery actually. I've heard of others being told not drink with straws for various reasons though.

Getting A Cold Post Op
LunarScorpio replied to therealme89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor gave me the O.K. to take Tylenol products when I got sick about a week after I had my surgery. You should call your surgeon to double check if they didn't give you paperwork telling you what meds you can take and ones you should avoid. -
I had surgery on Dec 20th and was required to do a pre-op diet for two weeks. I had a choice in which one I did, however. I could either do an all liquid diet (4 protien shakes, broth and water) or two protien shakes and a small meal (consisting of mostly vegitables). I decided to do the all liquid diet, I didn't want to take any chances. I ended up losing a good bit of weight from it, somewhere around 13lbs if I remember correctly. Like others have said, doctors are all different, so you may not even need to have to do one. I would suggest trying out a few different protien shakes in advance if you do end up having to do a pre-op diet.

Is Anyone Else This Cold?!?!? Poor Body Temperature Regulation
LunarScorpio replied to khath0620's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've noticed that I'm a lot colder than I used to be. My doctor did warn me about it though, which I was thankful for because I knew in advance to make sure to bundle up! It's normal though because like banditarian said, we're losing the fat that used to keep up warm. -
Finally! Lap Band Surgery Tomorrow!!
LunarScorpio posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery has been tentatively scheduled for Dec 20th (tomorrow) since the beginning of November and I have been patiently waiting for my information to be sent into the insurance company for approval. The problem was because I was not actually in my program for the three months that was required by my insurance company, I ran a risk of being disapproved if my information was handed in too early. The woman that handles everything dealing with insurance wasn't able to send in all of my stuff until the middle of last week. We were waiting to hear back from them and come Friday, had heard nothing. Today was the day that I was to hear whether or not I was approved. I've been pacing around (great excessive) all morning waiting for a phone call from the woman at the surgeon's office to let me know if my insurance had approved the surgery or if it would have to be pushed back. Welp, the call just came in and I've been APPROVED! I will officially be having surgery tomorrow, Dec 20th and I cannot be more excited! I'm also a nervous wreck now, but I am so ready for this. I'm so happy and just had to tell everyone! -
Finally! Lap Band Surgery Tomorrow!!
LunarScorpio replied to LunarScorpio's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I meant to reply to this yesterday, but could hardly keep my eyes open. I've actually been doing pretty well. I was able to go home yesterday right before lunch time. They did the x-rays on me and everything looked fine. My only real complaints were due to gas pains, but walking helps that out a lot it seems; though, today, I did wake up feeling as if I was hit by a buy. I'm thinking it's because it's the first day I haven't been pumped full of meds throughout the night and because I laid on my side the entire night, which is not my normal routine while sleeping. But yeah, all in all, everything went well and I'm feeling pretty good aside from some discomfort from sleeping, which I'm hoping will go away as my body starts waking up and moving around a bit more. Sorry to hear that you got so nauseous in the recovery room! I had to tell my anesthesiologist that I have tendency to get sick after waking up from sugery, so they gave me some extra meds to help calm that. I hope you're doing better today with the nausea and any soreness you may be experiencing! Hang in there! -

Hi there, lala and welcome! I’m not banded yet, but when I got started, I actually spoke with my primary doctor about it and they were able to suggest me to a local surgeon. I did research on him and others in my area and then stopped by the office where they gave me a list of dates seminars were being held which I went to. This seminar gave a ton of information about all three WL procedures, which was great and then from that and more research on my own, I was able to decide that I wanted the band. I then talked with the WLS program coordinator who gave me even more information of what I had to do during the program, and then I talked to the nutritionist. The thing you have to keep in mind is that everyone’s journey is different, but a good start to your personal one would be to talk to your doctor, do some research on local surgeons and attend a couple of seminars to get more information. Hope that helped some, best of luck to you!

Hello! I’m new to the site, my username’s LunarScorpio, but most people short that to “Luna” and my actual name is Felicia. I’ve been lurking around this site for the past few months and have always found it helpful. With my surgery date quickly approaching, I figured that it was time to join up! My surgery date is tentatively scheduled for December 20th and I’m a mixture of excitement and nervous, but I know that this is not only want I need to do, it’s what I want to do. I, like many of you, have tried diet after diet after diet to find that it doesn’t work and that I generally gain it all back and then some after the diet has failed. I decided to go with the band because I’m not too keen on having most of my stomach removed and I’m also not too into the idea of having my organs moved around. Also, this procedure is more easily reversible than the bypass. Either way, I’ve gone to a couple of support group meetings, a few classes that are required; I’ve talked with my nutritionist and had my first appointment with my doctor the day before Thanksgiving. He actually gave me a choice as to which band I wanted (Realize or Lapband), but I haven’t decided on which one to go with yet seeing as they’re both pretty much the same—I got this not only from my own research, but also from what the doctor told me when I saw him. That’s my current dilemma. So now I’m basically waiting to see if my insurance company approves and to finish up the last few steps before going in for surgery! Next week I start my all liquid diet, which I’m not really excited for, but I know I can do it and have started replacing some of my meals with Protein shakes to prepare myself. I think that pretty much sums up my journey thus far. I’m really excited to be here, like I said, I’ve been lurking around for a while and it seems like a fantastic community! I’m happy to be here and happy to start my new life!

December Bandsters!
LunarScorpio replied to sherrypep's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! My date is tentatively scheduled for December 20th and I’m so excited about it; though, I must admit, I’m a bit nervous too. I just hope my insurance approves! My doctor’s office sent in the paper work, either day before or the day after Thanksgiving, so I’m hoping to hear back later this week or early next week (fingers crossed!). I start my pre op diet next Tuesday, but have slowly started substituting a shake for a meal just to start preparing myself and so far so good! I was glad I could find some shakes that I liked because I can be really picky sometimes. Does anyone know if they’ll be able to have Christmas dinner yet? I’ll still be healing, so it’s turkey broth for me! But that’s okay, it’s totally worth skipping it for a healthier, happier me. -
