  1. My surgery is scheduled for Dec 20th. I recently went to the local gym to look at equipment, find out the max weight on the machines, and inquire about prices, etc.... I was so nervous walking into the gym. It's truly one of my mountains to cross. Since I manipulated my gastric bypass 9 yrs ago and didn't exercise, I now know what I have to do. I have my mind made up to exercise at least 3 days a week for 45 minutes and then work my way up. I actually want the exercise to be incorporated throughout every part of my lifestyle. The trainer/owner of the gym was nice and friendly and reassured me that all the equipment can hold me. He encouraged me to take the personal training times and learn how to use everything. I'm more interested in the form. I need LOUD music when I exercise- good stuff like Metallica, AC/DC, etc... he doens't have a sound system, so I need to invest in a MP3 that is loud and of course tennis shoes. I know that I will have to spend quite a bit on shoes and I don't know where to start? Underarmor? Getting physically fit is not a small expense. But, I'm willing to do different things to get different results... whatcha think??
  2. I misspelled the surgeon's name....Dr. Zubin Bhesania. My bad.
  3. Dr. Zubin Besanhia as moved to St. Joe's Mercy Hospital in Port Huron. He is no longer doing surgeries with Port Huron Hospital and thier LapBand Center. They will refer you elsewhere. They are advertising that they have done over 3,000 lapbands and that is untrue.... it's Dr. Besanhia who has and Dr. Bout. Sounds like a lot of political stuff and I don't like it. I wanted to set it straight.....If you want Dr. B's, you can call either of two numbers:810-985-1352 or 810-987-3556.
  4. I had an open band that needed to be done due to scar tissue from previous gastric bypass 9 yrs ago. Dr. Bhesania in Port Huron also repaired a small hernia. I was cut over 12 inches and had 39 staples. I've been back to work three days and really struggling. Struggling for more protein, tired, hungry and anxious to get my first fill on MLK day. I'm two weeks and two days post-op and started on Cream of Wheat w/skim milk to help get me over this hump along with Slim Fast. I've lost 20 lbs since I've started and hit a bump where I'm not losing now. A little worried... any ideas or encouragement would be really helpful for me. I'm not good at asking for help.

    All Is Well

A support group near your home is awesome. At least "go and try it out"- each group has a different "feel" to it- so you can see if it's going to benefit you or not by trying one meeting first. You will know if you want to come back or not by the end of the meeting. I wish we had a support group near my home-but I'm finding comfort in some ladies at my work that had the band and are working out together.... my surgery date is Dec 20th- wish me luck!
  6. Alex, Thanks for the encouragement and great advice. I since have purchased the ear piece for my HTC Andriod for awesome work out music. There is trainer (not free though) sessions that I found out about and it's something that I will need to start right away since I do not want any injuries....I'm working on the shoes right now via internet.... Jill
  7. It is exciting...I was just approved for my psych assessment. My surgery is scheduled for Dec 20th.. Merry Christmas to me!!! Kind of glad I don't have to worry about what to have for Christmas dinner with the family. ROCK ON.
  8. I'm starting to get a bit jittery. My open gastric bypass was Sept 02 and I didn't fair well because I chose to eat more than I should have. I've been thinking about the lapband for six years and getting my "head right." I'm really ready now, I have visions of what my body will be like.... very excited. I'm new to this site and excited to get a nice welcome from Alex. I know that my life is about to change now that I know what I HAVE to do. I'm really ready this time. Not many get a second chance, I'm grateful.
  9. To keep me encouraged- I went to the local gym on my lunch hr to inquire about prices and individual training. I started getting nervous walking in the door and felt like I wanted to cry. I was so looking for a sign that I'm doing the right thing. I then noticed a young Catholic priest that I went to high school with on the treadmill. He said, " Hi Jill, Glad to see you." I instantly felt relieved and I knew I had recieved my "sign." I plan to sign up for one year with a tanning package as well. The ultra light rays really help with some mild depression, especially this time of the year in Michigan. I'm seeking something within myself that is going to take alot of encouragement and support. I'm glad to have found this here as well. Thank you to my two new friends for responses. Ted- you are cute:)
