Drinking Normally- Is It Possible?
Bedhead replied to Bedhead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wonder if attempting to gulp is your issue. I've forgotten to sip and done gulps a time or two- each time it was AWFUL! -
Where Am I Losing All My Fat From?
Bedhead replied to Flyingsaucer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just want to point out that the sleeve is absolutely nothing like anorexia - not even close to the same ballpark. People who have anorexia will attempt to live off of as little as possible (1/2 of an apple and gallons of Water each day) in order to become 'thin' despite the fact that they are typically already hideously thin. It's Body Dysmorphic Disorder. The sleeve forces you to eat LESS, but not nothing. Most sleevers maintain their weight by eating anywhere from 1000-2000 calories per day. Someone with anorexia would be horrified at the idea of eating more that 100-300 calories per day. The two are nothing alike. -
I Definitely Regret Surgery.... So Far!
Bedhead replied to jasleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
And that, folks, is one part of why health care in the US is so expensive and so many of you had to leave the country to get surgery. Malpractice- being put to sleep expecting a VSG and waking up with a full hysterectomy when you're only 24. No malpractice- having a frustrating but fully disclosed complication from an elective surgery after which various doctors and other medical professionals attempt to work together to solve and make right. Only in America. -

A lawyer?? What on earth for??? -
I also had 1/3 a cup of cream of wheat for breakfast this morning and again I was definitely full after that tiny amount.

I was sleeved 5 days ago on 2/6- I had chicken gnocchi soup blended well yesterday. It was divine!! I was able to get in less than a cup over 4 hours. You will definitely feel the restriction! I used to be able to down 2 bowls easy in one sitting!

Does The Gastric Sleeve Work?
Bedhead replied to Optima's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Well I'm 5 days out from surgery and have already lost 13lbs- so I think it's safe to say that it works:) -
Just hanging out in the hospital, waiting to be taken back and gifted with a space of my very own on the losers bench. I can't help but think back on the process and feel so blessed to be at this point. I never thought I could do it. I never dared to hope my insurance would approve me, and then I never thought this day would get here. My surgeon came to see me and as he was walking away he turned around, gave me a huge smile and said 'today is YOUR day!'. It hit me so hard that I almost started crying. Because he's right! Today IS my day!

I got Toradol via IV in addition to having a PCA where I could press the button every 6 minutes for a dose of Fentanyl! I didn't lose that until an hour or two before I left the hospital. I've had ALL of my surgeries (4 so far) in this hospital and they are VERY anti-pain!

I Wish Someone Had Told Me....
Bedhead replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have one incision that is extremely painful but it's still got nothing on a csection- not even in the same ballpark! Also- EVERYONE gets a tube in their throat for any surgery that you are put to sleep in. So if you have had a sleeve, band, gallbladder removal, appendectomy, hysterectomy, whatever- you got a tube in your throat. However- most doctors remove them before the patient is fully conscious. -
I haven't gone since the day before my surgery and was wondering the same thing!

I Wish Someone Had Told Me....
Bedhead replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had read it a few times but I never really took it to heart that I would not be able to drink plain water. I've always been the girl to easily chug over 100oz of water in just a few hours. I never drink sports drinks or juices. So after surgery when I couldn't get ANY water in I felt like my life was over. But then they brought me warm chicken broth and I felt like a whole new woman! I don't struggle with my protein shakes at all- but holy crap I have a really hard time getting other fluids in because I can't tolerate them too cold without getting a stomach spasm and I can't tolerate plain water. Still wouldn't change it for the world! -

Would You Do It Again? Why Or Why Not?
Bedhead replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on Monday- so its been 3 days for me. I haven't started to enjoy any of the benefits of the surgery yet but already I can say I would do it again! I have a very definite sensation of restriction and I'm still on fluids- I can't imagine what it would be like with solids! -
5 Days Post Op-Stomach Growling? Hunger Pangs?
Bedhead replied to Sleeved&Hopeful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 days postop and my tummy growls so loudly that it has woken me up from a dead sleep. I don't think it's because I'm hungry, I think it's just a new way of life for me. -
Thanks everyone! I'm home now and getting my Protein and fluids in! Sleevie is very fussy and HATES Water and milk based Protein shakes. Everything else is going down like a dream! I feel like this isn't really real!

I don't know about you guys, but I am a hard core coupon freak. Paying half price gives me hives, paying full price makes me want to gut myself. I like to get stuff for at least 75% off so I thought I would start a thread on great deals I have already found that are realting to weight loss surgery in some way! I hope some of you find this helpful! Right now Target is having a great deal on many of their Vitamins. You buy 3 and you get a $5 target gift card! So if you have access to multiple computers and a printer in your home, here's a great bargain: Flintstone Complete Vitamins ($6.99 each). OneADay Vitacraves Gummies ($6.99 each) There are coupons you can use to sweeten the deal! You can print out Target store coupons for both the Flintstone Vitamins and the Vitacraves Gummies- http://coupons.target.com/ And you can combine a store coupon with a manufacturer coupon, so there's one here for the Vitacraves Gummies- http://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=xasjbpd73832009&bt=vg&o=97530&c=DS&p=S5MdD629 There is also a Flintstones Vitamins coupon that was in the Sunday paper a while back so if you can get your hands on that you can use that to sweeten the deal! Last night I bought 2 bottles of the Vitacraves and 4 boxes of the Flintstone Gummies. $41.94 was the total before coupons. I then used 4 Target store Flintstone Vitamins coupons (-$8), 4 Flintstone Manufacturer coupons (-$8), 2 Vitacraves Manufacturer Coupons (-$4) and 2 Vitacraves Target store coupons (-$4). This brought my out of pocket total down to $17.94, and because I bought 6 vitamins- I got 2 $10 gift cards. So totally it only cost me $7.94! That's less than ONE bottle of those vitamins usually costs (Normally they are $7.99!) I believe this deal ends THIS WEEK so you'll need to grab it ASAP.

Thank you, I love you guys! Really and truly had it not been for this forum I'd have cancelled my surgery - but seeing to many success stories and hearing how happy so many of you are now made it impossible for me not to want that for myself and to finally seize the day! I'm desperately thirsty at this point but I have mouth swabs which are saving my sanity! I'm feeling the typical left shoulder pain, and my incisions are a bit sore- but I STILL feel great! I was expecting to be nauseated and dry heaving but I'm not one little bit!! If I could take my little sleevie out behind the bleachers and make out with it- I would! I'm in love!

I. Feel. FANTASTIC!! How is that even possible?? I think my surgeon has played a trick on me. There is no way on earth I just got sleeved and feel so good. It's got to be this wonderful pain pimp!
-
YAAAAAAAAAAY! Text me when you get the chance- I leave here in 40 minutes!
-
HOLY CRAP! I can not believe that in less than 24 hours I will be sleeved. It seems unreal. Like a dream. I never ever thought I would get here. I figured my insurance would deny me or I would chicken out. I still feel like something will happen, maybe my car will break down or my surgeon will cancel. I'm just so amazed that this is happening I'm having a hard time believing it's true.

I Definitely Regret Surgery.... So Far!
Bedhead replied to jasleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can't help but feel compelled to comment on this. Truth is an interesting concept, because each and every one of us will have our own truth. I think that the truth most members of this forum live is that this surgery has changed their lives for the better and they would do it again in an instant. Ja's truth is scary to read about for sure, but the risk of these things happening are SO LOW. You are more likely to suffer severe complications from obesity than you are from this surgery. I certainly don't want to minimize what Ja is going through, because it's seriously awful stuff- but please keep in mind that she's not telling the 'truth about how awful this surgery is".... she's just telling her story of complications that are quite rare. I hope that you spend more time reading this forum and see how many wonderful success stories are here of people who are so happy with their results in order to make a more balanced decision.
