Good luck to you with your pre-op diet... that is the hardest bit of this journey I think! You will do wonderful with Dr Kelly & his team, they are amazing! Good luck, thinking of you!
-
I only had the 3 day liquid diet (because my BMI was lower) but with that I just had liquid when I felt hungry, no real restriction on how much. The idea is to shrink your liver, and as long as you stick with the items he says you can have, then you are fine doing a bit more!

Non Supportive Primary Care Doctor
NJsharon replied to carlab51's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I changed my Dr as she was not supportive of my surgery. I was having surgery in Mexico & just needed her to do bloodwork after, check my incisions to make sure they were healing, that is about it. She was totally unsupportive & very negative about the whole thing. So I changed PCPs & now so much happier with my new Dr who is supportive! -

When Were Able To Drive?
NJsharon replied to thinmymind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drove after about 4 days! I was off my pain medications as soon as I left the hospital (2 days) & felt fine to drive! -
Teeth Cleaning, Do I Need Antibiotics Prior?
NJsharon posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I need to get my teeth cleaned & I am 3 weeks post-op. I read somewhere about if we get our teeth cleaned or any work on our teeth we should have antibiotics first? Is that true & if so why? If I do need antibiotics then who do I go to for them... my PCP or the dentist? -

I took a passport, but if Omar said you will be fine with birth certificate & drivers license I would trust him that it's enough! They didn't even ask for any ID for me going into Mexico, it was just coming back into the USA that I had to show ID.

Sure, you can e-mail me at NJsharon@hotmail.com, happy to chat about my experience! I also have a blog you can check out, that details my experience: http://njsharonjourney.blogspot.com/ I had a wonderful experience in Mexico though!

How Many Had Staples Post Op
NJsharon replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No staples for me either, just steri-strips. -
Not sleeved in Cancun, but I flew into San Diego where I was picked up & crossed the border to Tijuana. It is literally 20 mins across the border! That was with Dr Kelly. Not sure where you are flying from, but it may be cheaper to fly to San Diego than Cancun?

I have one on my left that is right at the waist line, then 3 horizontally in a line, just above the waist line. Finally one small one, that is more like a puncture hole than a line, just above my bra line. I wore sweat pants after I was discharged from hospital & a sports bra under a t-shirt. Didn't look the best, but was very comfortable, easy to get on & off & didn't rub on my incisions. I heard yoga pants are good too to wear after.

I Had To Cancel My Surgery For Tomorrow :-(

Can I Take My Protein Powder Across The Border And Get It Back Into The Us?
NJsharon replied to boots321's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Check with your Dr if you will be allowed Protein after surgery. I know I wasn't allowed to add protein powders in until 10 days post-op. So didn't need to take them to Mexico with me. But if you are allowed to have protein that soon after surgery, then yes, they should be fine travelling across the border & back. -
I am at a stall too, I think it is going to happen. It is just our body adjusting to the new liquids or foods I think. Another plug for May 2012 Sleevers facebook group! It is a secret group so nobody can see the group, who is in it, or what we post! Just friend me on facebook & then I will add you. Search for Sharon Ivanauskas. We have 80 members now & it is going great!!!

Is it carbonated? If it is I would skip it, if not carbonated, I would think you can have that as a treat!

NJsharon replied to crystalintville's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Wow, sounds like you have been busy, but having fun! So glad they are looking after you so well. You really wouldn't get that kind of personal service in the US, you are so right there! Enjoy the time relaxing there in Tijuana! Back to reality soon! lol -
Dr. Kelly On July 20Th
NJsharon replied to Inline6E46's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I bought a silky nightgown to wear, but didn't wear it in the hospital, I just wore the hospital gown in there. I did wear it for bed in the hotel & it was nice to sleep in. Slippers... they do give you hospital slippers so you don't need to bring any. You get to keep them. So exciting to see so many Dr Kelly patients here, both past, present & future sleevers! -

What Is It Really Like When You Wake Up After Surgery?
NJsharon replied to Luwanna's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember being on the operating table, next thing I knew I was waking up in my hospital room. Kind of groggy, hard to focus at first on who was there. Then I remember finding it hard to breathe & swallow... then I felt them pulling a tube out of my throat. That felt a tiny bit uncomfortable, but then it was easier to breathe & swallow! I had no pain at all when I woke, just some nausea for the first 24 hours. Sorry, no c-section so can't compare it to that.
