Help - In Pain What Can I Take Pre-Surgery?
NJsharon replied to kccgm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oooh, that is a toughie. Hope someone has a good answer. Oh & I was told no aspirin 2 weeks before, not one month, so maybe you are okay to take something?? Maybe you can call up the Dr & ask what you can take? -
It really isn't bad at all. Just a little annoying trying to sleep with all the sensors on! Nothing hurts either just so you know! I was worried I might be getting little electric currents going through those sensors stuck all over me. I know, crazy thinking huh?! LOL They stick sensors to parts of your scalp, head, chest, legs. Then put tiny tubes by (or just slightly in) your nose. Then yes, they expect you to sleep like that! I toss & turn quite a lot, so twice sensors came loose & they had to come in to re-adjust them. Then once the tube by my nose moved too, so they had to come in to adjust that. Yep, didn't get much sleep. But I thought it was cool to do it & see the results. I didn't have any apnea, so didn't have to put the mask on. But they did tell me if they noticed I was having apnea episodes they may have to wake me up to put on a mask during the night too. It's really pretty easy & no big deal. Hardest thing is trying to sleep with all those wires!

Summer Is Just Around The Corner
NJsharon replied to Suzannesh's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I have seen plenty of people who have had recovery in a hospital for 2 days, then a hotel for 2 days. Not sure why that is a problem? The hotels are typically near the hospital & have heard doctors or coordinators come to check on you too. It is also NOT true that they are "cutting corners some place" if they are a bit cheaper than Dr Aceves! Didn't you just post in the last week putting all other MX doctors down too? -
How Long Does It Take To Get Back Across The Border?
NJsharon replied to Kimberlyann's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I would think that should give you enough time for a flight that leaves at 11.45am, but yes, you do have to be there 1 hour before your flight for security etc. -
How Long Does It Take To Get Back Across The Border?

My flight leaves at 11.15am... I was also told just not to book anything earlier than 10am, so your flight should be fine! -

Questions And Concerns. Dr.kelly Or Dr. Ponce De Leon?
NJsharon replied to Krista's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Both of those surgeons are great ones. So I suggest talking to them both & then going with who you feel more comfortable with! In the end I chose Dr Kelly too, but Dr Ponce de leon is great too! Dr Kelly uses a coordinator named Omar now, who speaks fantastic English by the way. I have e-mailed them several times & they get back to me right away, it's been great so far. The cost you pay includes everything except the airfare. Includes transportation from San Diego airport to the hospital, then hotel, then back to the airport. Plus they will drive you to go shopping or even get your teeth whitened! Oh & you asked how quick you can get an appt with them. It can be a matter of weeks if you want. I think I booked the end of March & asked for May 10th & that was open for me. -

Eating Myself To Death
NJsharon replied to 2bsmallagain's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I have been eating some foods, knowing I will not eat them after surgery... or at least in the quantities I am consuming them! On Saturday I had a cheese, onion, potato pastie, it was soooo good! LOL Then Sunday we went to a sushi buffet! Then last night I just had penne vodka! LOL I start my pre-op diet on friday, so just enjoying my last week! -
Hmmm, well that is a good price for the US! My insurance wouldn't cover me to get the sleeve & it would have cost me $24,850 out of pocket her in NJ. So yes, I opted to go to Mexico. They are soooo very experienced there, plus it is a bit cheaper than what you would be paying (I am paying $5500 for Dr Kelly). So weigh your options, reseach a couple of MX surgeons & then make up your mind. If you feel in your heart that you are more at peace staying in the US then go for that. Like I said, that is a good price!

Getting So Close What Are You Doing In Preparation..
NJsharon replied to kansasgirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeah, I have the big bed heating pad thing, but bought the smaller one just for the surgery. I LOVE the Unjury chicken soup broth. So I also ordered one more canister of it too. Wow single digits, how exciting!!!! -
Honestly, if my insurance had covered this, I probably wouldn't have looked at Mexico, as I didn't know it was an option. So would have had it done by my home. Now, knowing what I know about MX & the doctors there... if I were to get approved by insurance tomorrow (or even a few weeks ago), would I switch? I don't think so! I am totally happy with my choice of Dr's in Mexico.
-
Why are you all taking B12 too? I bought chewable multivitamins, chewable D3 (as I am currently taking 5000 IU a day anyway due to low Vit D), and chewable calcium citrate.
-
Yep, heading to Mexico on May 10th here. I mainly decided to go because my insurance wouldn't cover bariatric surgery for me & it was cheaper then paying for it out-of-pocket in the US. But after researching I am even more happy with my choice. They just have so much experience in Mexico!

I am still pre-op but yes, have heard you do lose your hair... not normally in chunks, but a fair amount. As for growing back. I know you will stop to lose hair after a little while, as your body adjusts to everything. But not sure if it will grow back in or not??

Post -Op Pantry Staples?
NJsharon replied to Beecharmer1982's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Interested to hear replies to this too! I bought a Sunbeam king size heating pad (12x24" & has a 9' cord), bought gas-x strips, low sodium chicken broth, some Gatorade G2, some Protein bars. I also bought chewable Multivitamins, chewable Vitamin D3 (as I normally take 5000 IU a day anyway), and just ordered chewable Calcium citrate too. I did buy some sugar free puddings & jellos, but those are going down as the kids are eating them! LOL -

Good luck with that! I start my 2 week pre-op diet on friday. Kind of excited to get it all started!
