  1. If any of you heading to Dr Kelly will be coming in on the wednesday or thursday, then you are in for a treat! You will be staying over on saturday night & they all go out on the saturday night & you can go with them! We went out last night & it was so fun. It was a very local mexican restaurant. Dr Kelly, his wife Cecy, his son, the anaesthatist, Omar, and a man visiting, who was sleeved about a year ago & lost over 100lbs. Was nice to chat to him. But was great chatting to the team & just getting to know them. They really are one big family & are so nice to me. Really made me feel welcome & accepted by them. I just had Water & the broth, which was soooo good. Only could manage half the bowl! All the food looked great though. Think I would love to try to come back in a year to visit them too, see how much I have lost by them & get to hang out with them. Today, sunday, Cecy is taking me shopping. Have to think what I need, she will take me wherever I want to go. She can also take you for any dental stuff, haircut, manicure, pedicure, the beach, wherever! It's been fun!

How Are All The May Sleevies Holding Up?

I agree, my expectations were far worse than the surgery itself & the recovery! I thought I would be in a ton of pain, hard to swallow liquid, scared of the operation. Everything was a breeze! I was sleeved on 5/10 just on Clear liquids for 7-8 days, adding in Protein shakes on day 10. Hope I still like the ones I have at home (I am not home yet, recovering in a hotel in Mexico right now!) & my tastes haven't changed too much. The Isopure, is that like a milky consistency or clear? I didn't like any of the clear ones before I got sleeved. Where do you buy isopure? My favorites before getting sleeved were EAS advantage chocolate & Chike banana & chike strawberry. Amazing that I am not really hungry, but know I need to have something now... at least to take my meds!
  3. They gave me 2 bottles of Vitamin Water & Omar told me that is the best to drink, better than gatorade, as it has all the Vitamins in it. But that felt a little uncomfortable when i drank it. Not bad or hurt, just felt a bit weird, like it was sitting on top of my tummy. The lemon tea is going down really smoothly though. Had about 1/2 small mug of it so far. The room at the lucerna has a coffee maker, so the first thing Omar did was fill that up with water for me & put it on, so I would have hot water for broth & teas. Oh & I found concentrated liquid chicken stock packets. They are really small & make 1 cup. So will use those for stock tomorrow probably. But those might be handy to bring. They have 2 small mugs & 2 small glasses in the room too.
  4. They gave me teas too... camomile tea, lemon tea & some splendas. Having a lemon tea right now with one splenda & it soooo good. So may pick up some more of them!

    Gas X Strips

I didn't have any gas pains, so didn't need them. But my Dr said it can help with gas pains after surgery.

    Any May Sleevers Here?

Yeah I had some mild nausea with dry heaving a couple of times. But only for about 24 hours. I was more worried about the gas pain, that never happened!

    Yay!

Oh & some things I bought that i didn't need was a thick fleece blanket. Some people said to bring a pillow to lean into when you sit up. I was going to use the blanket instead but didn't need it. They helped me sit up most of the time, pulling me up. Or after a while I could use the bed handrail to pull myself up. Also bought a heating pad & never needed it! Someone told me to bring a robe as the hospital gowns gape at the back so when you walk, you show your bootie! Well I couldn't fit one in, so didn't bring one, but didn't need it. They tied the one big white robe around me at the back. Then put a smaller blue robe over me with the opening undone at the front. So I was completely covered. No bootie showing when I walked the hall!
  8. Oh yes, tonsillectomy that I had this past march was like 10 times worse as far as pain goes. I was in such horrendous pain with that & no pain whatsoever with this! Thanks Swimmer!

    Any May Sleevers Here?

I am still in Mexico. Got sleeved 2 days ago & doing fantastic! I have had no pain & just minimal nausea, the first 24 hours. Just been sipping on vitamin water & going to go out soon with Dr Kelly, his wife & Omar for some broth. Yum, I can't wait, I feel hungry now!

    My Story So Far

Wow, not even a month out & you are doing soooo well! Well done to you, you are doing great!
  11. NJsharon

    Yay!

You are going to do great & Dr Kelly is so friendly, and an awesome doctor. Something I wish I brought is tape for the gauze that covers your incisions. The nurse changed them before I left & one has come off already. She was very light-handed with the tape! lol I will speak to Dr Kelly though, to check it is okay that one of my incisions is not covered. But I had a great experience & know you will too!
  12. Yes, Omar told me you were asking about me. Thank you! Omar has been so nice. I am just totally amazed at how good I feel! I wish everyone had such an easy time as me!
  13. Hola amigos! I am off on my journey to Mexico in 10 minutes!!!!! Excited & nervous at the same time. I will be sleeved today at around 2/2.30pm by Dr Kelly. Will post update/s when I can!!! Any May Sleevers Here?

Glenda, as a Brit living in NJ, I also love travelling! I am secretly looking forward to being in Tijuana & hope I get some time to shop a bit too! I am getting mighty nervous right now though, thinking this time tomorrow I will probably be out of surgery & hopefully sleeved! Yikes, scaring me a bit! I am not scared of the afterwards, having to drink tiny sips & eat tiny bites. I am scared of the surgery itself & I hate pain, I am a big baby!

    Sleep Study On Friday

You still might not have apnea. My Dr sent me for a sleep study, suspecting I had apnea as I was tired all the time & sleeping about 10 hours a night! How could I still be tired? But I had zero apnea episodes at the sleep study. They did find that I had very low Vitamin D though, after doing tests, so taking extra Vit D & hoping that helps.

    Sleep Study On Friday

Yeah, I toss & turn a lot, so twice the wires came loose & they had to come in & reattach them. lol It is tricky to sleep & I honestly didn't think I slept at all. But apparently they told me I did & I snored!

    Sleep Study On Friday

Oh it is really easy, so don't worry! They hook you up to sensors on your scalp, chest, legs & put tubes by your nose (they go in ever so slightly). Then they expect you to sleep, which is tricky as you have wires all over you, so not the most comfortable! They monitor your breathing, heartrate, & check for restless leg syndrome, oh & oxygen saturation I think. If they note, during the night, that you have apnea episodes then they will probably come in & hook you up to a machine to help you breath a bit better. For me it was easy. In fact I have to go back in June to do a re-check, to see if anything has changed. One tip is to wear loose fitting PJs as you have to run wires from the top of your body, down your legs & just makes it easier to get the wires where they need to go. Good luck!
  19. I think you will be okay. Just don't do it again! I had a 2 week pre-op diet of just 'eating healthy' & trying to change my habits for the better. Then 3 days pre-op diet of liquids. I think it is the liquid diet that is more important.
  20. I am on day 3 of my pre-op liquid diet. Surgery tomorrow. I am actually doing much better than yesterday. But still craving a bacon cheeseburger something bad! Or chinese noodles (mmmm beef chow fun please!). But sipping my Water, drinking my broth & trying to focus on the surgery & how I will feel mentally after that.

    I'm Sleeved!

Congratulations! I will be joining you tomorrow on the losers bench!

    Any May Sleevers Here?

I am on my 3 day liquid pre-op diet. Surgery in 2 days. It is going well, 3.6lbs lost in just 1 day! But man I am craving a bacon cheeseburger something bad... and some hot french fries dipped in mayo! Just something to bite & chew on!!!! But keep telling myself this is all worth it & trying to be good. I caved today though & had one of the kids popcorn fish balls. I have no willpower, it is so bad. Ugh.
