    Im A May Sleever!

Flight was pretty uneventful & went quick, which was good. I did want to upgrade to business class, but it was full already when I checked in. Just over 5hr flight, so not too bad. I wore my compression stockings & got up to walk around a few times too.
  4. Thanks for the advice guys, appreciate it!

    Im A May Sleever!

Thanks Krista, it was good to meet up with you & get to see you both! I wasn't sure that I could have the unjury chicken broth in the first 10 days as my diet says clear liquids & that isn't really clear. Plus it has protein & I am not meant to add protein drinks until day 10 post-op. But maybe your post-op diet is different? I tried it pre-op though & really liked it. I would just run the faucet as hot as it would get & use water like that. So not boiling, but hot water & it worked fine. Congrats on losing 20lbs, that is AWESOME, you rock girl!

    Im A May Sleever!

Hi, I was also sleeved on May 10th & had 2 nights in the hospital & 2 nights in a hotel (in Mexico) & doing fantastic! No pain since I woke up from sugery, no gas, just mild nausea the first 24 hours after surgery!

    Im A May Sleever!

I would ask why they feel the bypass is better than the sleeve for you? Bypass involves rerouting the stomach & I was worried there is more chance of complications then. Also you have more malabsorption issues to worry about. Then you cannot have NSAIDS again, so tough if you have chronic headaches, arthritis etc. Those were my main reasons for not choosing the bypass & choosing the sleeve.
  9. I wondered if it was you, as I saw your name was Sarah! LOL Was lovely to talk to you & yes I am home safe & sound. Doing fantastic still & missing Tijuana & Dr Kely & his team quite a bit!!!!
  10. Hi!!! First of all good luck to you. Secondly you are going to have a great time with Dr Kelly & his team & the area is VERY safe in tijuana! I just got back last night from Tijuana after getting sleeved with Dr Kelly & have nothing but great things to say about the Dr, his team & the whole experience! Please don't let your family scare you. I actually had to change my PCP as she was scaring me so much about Mexico!!! But Dr Kelly reassured me it is a safe neighborhood. I never felt scared there. The only time I was on my own was in the hotel & that is like a really fancy nice hotel! Cecy would take me everywhere & either her or Omar were always with me. If you want to call me personally I am also happy to chat with you about my experience, just send me a PM & I will give you my home phone number! I also have a blog you can read, about my experience with Dr Kelly & my journey. http://njsharonjourney.blogspot.com/
  11. Oh you are in for a treat Sherry & whatever you guys want to do, Cecy will take you to. We went to the beach & walked down by the beach, went shopping in a vendors aread, then shopping at a supermarket & out for dinner twice too. She said she takes patients to get their teeth whitened, hair done, nails done, whatever they want to do! I am home now & still in no pain, no gas, just feeling fantastic! Also updated my blog more, so you can follow my story on there: http://njsharonjourney.blogspot.com/
  12. Hi everyone. Here I sit at the beautiful lucerna hotel in Tijuana mexico! I cannot say enough good things about Dr Kelly, his wife Cecy & Omar. Cecy picked me up from Sand Diego airport in a WLSC (weight loss surgery center) van, easy to get across the border. But first she took me on a little tour of downtown San Diego! Stopped to take my photo a couple of times which was nice. Beautiful area. Then across the border & stopped to get bloodwork & urine sample (so don't pee at the airport!). Easy to do. Then off to Oasis Hospital where I met Dr Kelly & Omar. Both speak fluent & very good English! Process went very quickly. Got undressed & into a gown, took x-rays of chest area, then off to surgery! One minute I was laying on the table, next minute I was waking up in my room! Woke up with abolutely NO PAIN! I had no gas pain from the moment I woke up & still don't! Just some mild nausea. Dr Kelly said the surgery took 41 minutes & why he tries to do it quickly is so you have less gas. Well it definitely showed! The next couple of days consisted of me sleeping off & on, getting vital stats done & having my IV bag changed. I think I had 6 lots of Water they put into me altogether. Today they changed my incisions dressings, took IV out of me & off we went to do the swallow test. Everyone said it tastes horrible, so was prepared for that. It wasn't bad at all. You also drink it in one lot, not sips. So you hardly taste it. Swallow test went great too! Now Omar, cecy & Dr Kelly all dropped me off at the Lucerna hotel & I have an amazing view of the pool, really pretty. Oh & they gave me a bag that says "I left my stomach in Tijuana, MX" filled with drinks & teas for me. They also gave me 3 types of medication. One for pain, one antibiotic & one for my stomach. Now I am relaxing until they pick me up later & we all go for broth. Can't wait! So doing amazing. Really recommend Dr Kelly & if you have any questions just ask!
  13. I just got back from Dr Kelly in Tijuana Mexico & my experience was nothing but fantastic. I was actually a little sad when I had to come home as his team made me feel so welcome & made it so fun! Dr Kelly did a wonderful job, I had absolutely no pain afterwards & only some mild nausea the first 24 hours. Hospital was small but clean & nice (you are there for 2 nights) & hotel was lovely (you are there for 2 nights too). I made a blog with my experience where you can read about all the procedure & stuff I got up to! http://njsharonjourney.blogspot.com/ If you had any questions on Dr Kelly, you are also welcome to call me personally. Just PM me & I will give you my phone number. I love him & his team!

    Any May Sleevers Here?

That is probably just because you have all the fluids in you from the IV at the hospital. Takes a few days for that to work its way out sometimes! Glad you are home safe!

Good luck to all of those with upcoming surgeries! I am home from Mexico & in my home now. Nice to be with family now, but miss my Dr & his team, they were awesome!

    Started A New Blog!

Yes, I started my blog when I was sitting in my hotel room in Tijuana Mexico! So it had the .mx at the end of it. But as far as I can tell, if you put .com on the end, it still works too. Or it did for me when I just tried it (I am home now in NJ).
  17. Hi everyone. I thought i would start a new blog, so can keep loved ones (and anyone on here too) updated on my story & progress! I was sleeved by Dr Kelly on 5/10 in Mexico & hope it helps some of you & puts your mind at ease! http://njsharonjourney.blogspot.mx/
  18. I started a new blog with my story & journey so far. If anyone wants to read it and/or follow it! http://njsharonjourney.blogspot.mx/ It is basic, but would love to know what you think. I know I was hungry for any & all info before being sleeved, so hoping it will help others!

    Any May Sleevers Here?

Also went out to dinner with the Dr (Dr Kelly), his wife, his 7 year old son, the anaesthatist & another patient (who is 1 year out & lost over 100lbs so far) yesterday. That was really nice to get to know them all. Very different to how you get treated in the US I guess, but I liked it a lot. Of course they ordered me chicken broth, so sipped on that slowly while they ate. It was fun!

    Any May Sleevers Here?

So sorry about the drain & the language barrier Jenn! I was with Dr Kelly, no drain & nurses spoke pretty good English.
  21. Oh & the nurses spoke pretty good English too. As well as Dr Kelly & Omar being around the hospital a lot & speaking fluent English. So the language barrier wasn't bad. Can't remember if I posted this, but they also give you compression stockings to keep, so no need to buy them. I am still wearing mine & will wear them on the plane on the way home too.
  22. I gave the bellboy $5 as I didn't have any singles! He must think I am a big spender. Would think $2-$3 would be fine. Also going to give Cecy (Dr Kelly's wife) $40 for driving me around while I have been here. You could in lieu of a tip for Cecy bring a gift for her. But I would give her something, as she is great ferrying you around everywhere!
  23. What you need to bring isn't much. Gas-x strips in case you need them (I didn't), maybe 2-3 boxes of them. chicken stock powders or I found concentrated liquid broth in tiny packets. That is nice for the hotel room to make chicken stock. Then your clothes! I also wish I bought a tin of Cookies or candies to give to the nurses to share. They were so nice to me. singles for tipping the bellboy at the hotel as he will bring your luggage up for you. Oh & they also give you slippers at the hospital, so you really don't need to pack those either.
