considering Dr. Benavides in Dallas
missy67 replied to conniecash's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
cheryl c- i was planning on using dr cribbins but found out today that uhc denied my surgery.. according to the ins company dr cribbins' didnt present enough documentation or prove that it is medically necessary for me to have it done.. so its either fight with uhc- because his office doesnt do appeals (sucks) or just find another doctor. almost everyone in my office has used dr barker and that's about 10 people so far. one is using dr jay.. i do not know how much dr cribbins cost- as it was to be done via ins. dont make a decision regarding Dr B on just what I said. His after care program is great- Dr C had none.. - so my chose wasnt that great. Choose a dr that you are comfortable with and that will take the time to answer your questions, and you should have a lot of them for the dr you choose. hope this helps. -
considering Dr. Benavides in Dallas

i was impressed with dr. b's support after banding. his seminar left something to be desired. he did not offer the negatives to the band without proding him..i asked the questions he didnt want to hear..ie erosion, removal, slippage, port leakage. i ultimately did not choose him due to that and the fact that he provided out dated information regarding the rny. at my psych eval yesterday she used the word "slick" to describe him. -
hey ladies i have UHC Select EPO and they cover it 100%. however they are all over the board in how long it takes.. one of the girls i work with got her denial in 3 days bmi was only 35 and no comorbidities another one of my co workers it only took a week to get approved and another almost 3 weeks. My paperwork was submitted on 2/15 and I call them 3 x's a day to ck.. still no answer..

biker- thank you very much i am also waiting on my ins. called this morning and they told me that the dr's office and cancelled it:( .. i was so freaked out. had to wait til 1pm this afternoon to find out what happened. seems there was an error on the letter and they had to cancel the original and resubmit.. now the process starts all over:faint:
-
you guys are great.. we had a very long talk and he is still very leary of it but supports my decision... he is going to attend a seminar next tuesday and hopefully that will answer his questions.. good thing the seminars just give you the icing on the cake and not the actual cake.. lol

we have only been married for a little over a year together almost 3 and thinks i should give him a fair chance and reducing my wt.. he doesnt understand i have been through the yo yo wt loss enough to know i dont want that anymore.. he cant wrap his mind around having an elective surgery to lose wt. his main fear is long term.. he does not feel there is suffecient research on the procedure- he wants to know what the super long term effects will be.. i try explaining to him that if there are any complications with it that it can be removed, unlike with the bypass. nothing so far has set his mind at ease.. i have told him to read the boards and see what other people are saying about it... at this point he just says "tell me where to take you and what to fix you to eat"

hey guys- any advice on how to make dh feel better about the surgery.. he is worrying hisself into a frenzy.. i have scheduled a 2nd seminar with a different Dr. just so he can go and ask his questions- i think when he ask me the questions i sugar coat the answers..

babygirl- that is right. call his bluff- and since you are on his insurance you can call them and find out when enrollment is.. dont you dare kiss his azz infact turn it around him.. )
-
just a bit of advice- if its not enrollment time and there has been no life changing events ie divorce, death, birth- under most insurances he cant just take you off.
-
Avilla- I live in irving as well and went yesterday for my consult with Dr. Cribbins- he was wonderful, the whole experience was great.
-
Rosedown- i debated heavily between the band and the bypass, but felt that bypass was a bit to extreme for the amount of wt i want to lose. the 110 is my personal goal.. Dr Cribbins suggest about 120-125

YEA!!! got through the first step- consultation, the Dr's office has already sent the letter into my insurance now just sit and wait.. joy joy.. according to the ins the Dr's office submitted the letter with a projected surgery date of March 5. :clap2:
-
WOW, so great you started this thread.. my bmi is 38. i am only 4'11. i started the journey today with my consult and the dr's office filing with the ins. luckily my ins does not say no very often. i do have one co-morbidity- high cholesterol.. i plan on bugging my ins co EVERY DAY. i hope to know before the dr does.. lol
-
things went great.. they already turned the letter into the ins.. luckily my ins does not require alot for approval. they do not even require the psy eval. but Dr Cribbins' coordinator wants me to schedule it. i want to make sure that my ins approves first. on the letter they put a surgery date of march 5th.. keeping fingers crossed

The way my PCP explained it was to pick a date i planned on quitting- say sunday. so i started taking the pill(s) on sunday and laid the cigarettes down the following sunday.. by about the 4th day they started tasting bad.. so it was really easy.. there was no craving or anything.. if you arent smoking now try just using the patch for a couple of days then not wearing it.. the biggest challenge i have seen with people that also take chantix is that having the cigarette is more habit than want.. they tend to just burn up the cigs.
-
i have used chantix.. its awesome.. aside from some strange dreams on occassion..

hello all, There are a couple of ladies I work with that have gotten holes in their bands and no longer are able to get fills. Is this a common occurence or is their Dr. (they have the same fill dr) just not paying attention? Missy
-
Thank you for the reply DrC. I have chosen not to use their Dr...
-
OU did your insurance require the psych eval and sleep study or is that something that dr cribbins requires? the reason i ask is that i have read several posts where its a consult then the surgery. your replies are great. thanks

OUSOONER My appt is at 9am so I plan on being there around 830. Was the hold up on your ins or is he just that busy? I looked at his pt reviews on obesityhelp.. seems the major issue was no after care- what was/is your experience? missy

I have my first appt with Dr. Cribbins on Monday, he does a seminar and consult at the same time? How long did it take until he scheduled surgery OUSOONER?
-
This is one of the greatest forums. I have been lurking reading and absorbing what everyone has to say about the band and decided to actually make an appointment for a consultation. My appt is monday with Dr. Criggins office in Dallas Tx. Has anyone here used him or his partner? I have ckd with my insurance (united healthcare epo) and there really isn't any hoops I have to jump through so I am keeping my fingers crossed. missy

missy67 replied to ssmith9994's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
i had a call into his office to schedule my consultation and never received a call back so i scheduled with someone else. -
This site was very helpful in contributing to my decision between the RNY and Band. The biggest obstacle is now convincing my husband that its the right decision. He is usually very supportive but we have agreed to disagree on this one subject.. he just says to tell him where to show up at and what to buy for me to eat.. lol
