  1. I have not set one yet. Not a firm number, not a firm size really. I have a bit of difficulty "seeing" myself past a 16. beyond a 14? lol...but I am trying, because I wonder what I would look like as a 5'10" inch me, just a size 10. Did you go by a desired size? inches? BMI?
  2. I know many people list this information in sucess stories and such, but I was hoping to post a few specific quesions How overweight were you/how old when you developed yor co-morbid conditions? I am thinking most specifically diabetes, but mention anything you encountered. Asthma, inflamation, hypertension, hormone or lympic conditions, skin conditions, infertility, back pain, pain in legs, sleep apnea, etc. When were you able to notice improvement that went from emergent to noticeable, daily consistent improvement? Are you doing better, or did the condition reverse? Feel free to include anything I forgot...
  3. If it is a good course you WANT that knowledge. I used to work with children who were undergoing chemotherapy (taugh art class at the hospital). A couple of the children showed me some techniques they were taught at another hospital, and they worked - and very simple things, you just have to focus.
  4. Changed doctors due to bariatric consultant's HUGE mistake and her less than sincere apology! Stressful this close to my surgery date but secured the dame surgery date with the doctor who originally diagnosed my diabetes AFTER five years of misdiagnoses! He has operated on me before, with good results, so feeling like this was kismet...hopefully!

  5. Absolutely noteworthy should I need it...but wonder if he has a replacement suggestion for peanut butter? <<<allergic to peanuts!
  6. Good Luck! I hope you decide to stay sober once even when you have the year behind you. Alcohol has alot of empty calories and I have heard of several people who sabotaged their weight loss with alcohol...

When can i start really working out.

Good basic exercize routine - your first piece of equipment you need is a big mirror so you can see your form. Form is key. CORE - Planks! Start on your knees - you will shake as you do it, set a timer for 65 seconds - it gives u a change to get in position so you do it full minute. Push ups, core ball exercizes - the key is to do several different types of exercize positions, but not everyone every day. except for planks. Start panking with at least 1 days rest in between and no more than 3. Squats are good. If you plan to want to include heavy weights or pull ups, etc. start working on the strength of your grip. You may also want to get the book "yoga for wimps" as a primer. I am big but the one thing I never gave up on is my exercize. Do as much as you can, even if it i just a little. Your core exercizes are foundational. Core refers to the fact that it exercizes, strengthens and PRIMES you central core muscle groups...you use several sets of muscles, and have to fight coordination and balance as you strengthen. These are the muscles that when exercized the will make you seem taller, will make you more balanced and sure footed. The shakes you experience is your muscles and central nervous system relearning to work together again.
  8. Yes, it is to the point that I know I am costing myself years. About 6 months ago, a 37 year old diabetic in anothe office at work died due to diabetic complications. She could have been me - except she weight alot less! A1C in .2+/- of 5.0 for years, fit active, controlled - and then the complications set in. She was dead within 6 months. I was floored, and I felt very small and scared - and wide awake and ready to fight harder - and yet very scared and small...
  9. I set my surgery for 1/04/2012 on 11/22/2011 and for the last several days have been caught up with work and school and the Holidays, not to mention the end-of-month at work. So I am setting here at 3:45 AM and I have soooo many thoughts going through my head. I am much more nervous than I suspected. The posts about pain scare me. I really dont want to just hurt for days on end. However, that could be the end result for many co-morbid conditions associated with obesity and diabetes (not to mention asthma and a bad knee). My Husband is scared, and I think that for me is the hardest thing right now. He is holding onto me, literally, almost every second he can. I looked up from paperwork tonight and he was just staring at me. He caught me following up on my pre-paid funeral arrangements (I am a pessimistic optomist) and he just looked, so, very...well, very. (note: I didn't make the prepay arrangements for this, I have had them a long time. Not morbid at all, I used to be a Funeral Director and have since been a strong advocate to pre-pay and deciding on as many arrangements as one can so no one else will have to..). My Sister will be in for the surgery. She flies in on the 3rd and leaves on the 10th. I am also going to encourage my Hubby to ask some of his closer friends to help him over the first few days. He is going to be so overwhelmed. Looking back at this post, I think if one could summarize this in a question it would be : What type of support systems are out there for the Spouses?
  10. I want to do the things I used to be able to. I will never recover my knee (misdiagnosis of Water on the knee and it was a staph infection that ate my knee cap into the shape of a "c"). I think with proper maintenance I can do lot of it again. I still ride my bike and core train and never gave up on yoga (almost 23 years now) but there is more: Paintball, hinking, wall climbing, MMA. Twister! I can already play a mean game, but it is difficult for people to get around me, lol. I think contact juggling will be easier with slimmer arms. I want my Mom to look at me and not worry. I want my Husband to not wonder how few years we have left. I WANT TO DO A PULL UP!!!!

    i'm so sad.

Very generous of you! I started to offer the same, but then I realized the post is almost a month old...hmmmm...maybe an "upsale" post VGS post? Also, may I suggest to everyone to keep an eye on lane bryant and women within for sales? you will be suprised! Much of your wardrobe can be tailored down a size or two as you shrink, at a fraction of the cost of replacing the clothing!

    Insurance Fraud?

Look at your itemization for your surgery. Even if you paid a lump sum fee they have to disclose what you are paying for, so they can not come back and say it didn't include this or that. Look it over and see if there is any mention of you paying less due to a co-morbid condition or hernia. Look at the breakdown of what was paid by your insurance. Does it have things on it that show definite double payment? Anest. fees? Hospital room, the pro op tests, etc... If there is any doubt contact your insurance ASAP...
  13. I think that will be very helpful - and just some interesting information to keep in the noggin'! Thank you! :biggrin5:
  14. My mind is so full, and my thoughts do not seem to stop...Am I going to be like this all the way up to my surgery day?

  15. I have had a friend suggest I have a party before surgery. We both know it can be a difficult path, and I could possibly be a long way out from being very social again. Possibly make it the NYE gathering or something. Has anyone done this?
  16. You are "here"! I am so anxious and I have weeks yet, I can't imagine the night before - and no alcohol, lol! Good luck, God bless!

The Cons Of Gastric Sleeve Life! :-(

I have lost around 30 lbs, and suspect I will loose more before my surgery - and I am cold already - and I am in HOUSTON! :/
  18. Thank you for the link. I have put in my request to talk to someone and get some samples.

    Bariatric Surgery Do's And Don'ts

Perhaps you could crate an attachment that has these bulleted, so they would be easier to print, like the list for the hospital. Your mentoring is wonderful. Thank you so very much. God Bless!
  20. May I suggest you also keep a running total of meds, etc that are administered...and make sure that before they give you any otc meds ask the cost - you have the right to bring them in if they are charging too much. Note everyone you saw and what they did and how much time they took - especially if you have complications later. These are for you later on to be able to dispute any charges you should not have to pay.
  21. 34 days and counting!

  22. Get In My Belly Were you like this before the surgery? Did you have a tendency to feel like this in the past if you were feeling ill for awhile? May I ask what you mean by "it's all surgery related"? Huggs to you! I will keep you in my prayers.
  23. I noticed you are from Kuwait. I am curious about how you finance the surgery there. Were you able to get the surgery in Kuwait? It seemed to me more specific or specialty services were a little difficult to come by. Just curious, and I hope not too private of a question.
  24. My date is January 4th...so close and yet so far!
