  1. Glad to hear you are well, I don't want to be repetitive with the other posts, but please do keep us posted. Good vibes headed your way!
  2. "A Very Christmastastic Rocky Horror Picture Show", tonight! "Let's do the time warp again!" - it will be my last one before surgery... ): How long to you have to wait to time warp after VGS? lol!

  3. http://runforyourlives.com/ I am going to ROCK THIS!!! This is going to be so much fun! It is going to be my 1 year treat! I would love for others to come join me!
  4. Guzel - no he has not. I wish he would. We are going to go to the monthly free consultaion thing...and I have encouraged him to just make an appointment, but so far no. I think the decision was just very fast in his opinion...he did not see the reading and research and last attempt at losing weight on my own (I was losing weight in preparation for the surgery) as a part of this decision. I am going to work on us discussing it this weekend. Good question, by the way. What a wonderful forum we have! and thank you!

  6. Hmmm...another day, but it's FRIDAY! Boo-yeah! :D:o;)

  7. mxmom - thank you. Yes, to quote Nikki "I am not lucky, I am blessed." We are talking alot, and I am going over the positive things. I am engaging him in conversations about what we are going to do and where we are going to go afterwards - and I told him I wanted a new piece of lingere at each size mark - and he had to pick it out, lol. NEVA907 - Very positive attitude! My Husband is not against the surgery, just very concerned. Even if he were against it, I do think I would have it. You are right.
  8. LOL. I love your post. I think there are a few people who I will let pass on asking me questions on my food choices, just because they have been strong advocates in my struggle so far. One a side note - thinoneday - I love your bunny tracker! AND I love that it says you have passed your goal!

    Ferocious Frustration!

You said the only way you ever lost enough weight to be healthy was not to pay attention to what you ate? If you were at a healthy weight you would not have had the surgery. Please be cautious about what you let slip in that would make it ok - or would have used to - because it didn't. Your students are going to live. Unless you were growing someone a new kidney in lab NOTHING they will go without compares to what you stand to lose. Most of us here have a history or putting others first, and allowing ourselves to fall behind. It is a part of the frustrations and bad habits that have contributed to our morbid obesity. It isn't a chore for you to have this step - and it isn't a step - modified eating is for the rest of your life. For you to succeed, you need to get used to taking care of yourself. LIKE IT! lol! There is nothing wrong with putting yourself first. You can actually do more when you do so. I have been learning this lesson, and looking back am surprised I never figured it out sooner. That is a part of the issue, I guess - Good luck and God bless!
  10. Thank you - I will try to post things as I find them, without reposting somethign I have already seen on here!
  11. http://www.covidien.com/imageServer.aspx/doc219041.pdf?contentID=21287&contenttype=application/pdf Very intersting link to the Covidien page on LGS (Laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve), which is the VGS (Vertical Gastric Sleeve) just horizontally. Just kidding, they use the LGS to specify the laparoscopic procedure. It is a part of a PDF "Bariatric Surgery : Overview of Procedure Options".
  12. About an hour and half out from my sort of first visit with my second (but this is the one) doctor. We will be going over everything in depth - and taking a picture, ugh. Lol. Next will be all of the upcoming doctor's visits (the visits are in a crunch my date is 01/04/2012). Getting nervous again!

  13. I agree. Perhaps follow up with a second opinion and make sure you are not retaining food in your stomach. Keep a really strict food journal, for reference, to make sure you arent developing a food allergy or allergies. Good luck - I am concerned about the nausea part myself!
  14. The carnation instant breakfasts are good, but there are alot of different ones, and they are not the only nutritional supplements offered by Nestle. The Carnation Essentials Breakfast Originals is the drink lower on protien (5g) higher on carb (27g). It isn't unhealthy in general and for many ould be a good kickstart for the day...just not for VGSers... Carnation Essentuals Breakfast Originals No Sugar Added Ready-to-drink-bottle in Rich chocolate (no other flavors in the ready to mix bottle) have (13g) protien and (16g) carbs. You could add a scoop of unjury flavorless to this and add 20g protien and 80 calories. Which would bring the calories to 250, and 33g protien. I am not a Nut, nor do I play one on TV, but: The carnation breakfast is different than the almost pure protien drinks supplements - they do have some carbs and a little fat - but compare the labels, they also give you alot of your nutritional needs - the protien drinks do not. I am not an expert on VGS (yet, lol) but I know we cannot have the carbs this includes at first, but later on we are going to need healthy amounts of fat. Your body does not use any one single nutritional component in a vaccum - they all rely on each other. There are things we need beyond nutrition too - we need daylight for several of our Vitamins to work correctly, and some vitamins will not be able to work correctly without others vitamina and trace minerals, etc...sleep is so important! About the protien - I am not seeing this mentioned in alot of places - it is very important we get protien, but if you arent exercising once you can - not (just) cardio, but also muscle retention and or building exercises - that protien is not going to provide the benefits you need it to. You will lose muscle if you do not exercize - and you will lose more hair than you would have otherwise (the last one is just a hypothesis for now but there is clinical evidence to back it up). I have faught with nutritional issues with my Mom my whole life - she suffered severe head trauma when I was 9 that left her with almost 80% memory loss and among other things it affected her metabolism and soon thereafter she began to have nutritional issues also. To make a long story short I have spent 30 years or so trying to understand my Mom's malnutrition issues. That is also one of the reasons I avoided the full bypass.
  15. Theophylline is a drug similar in effect to caffene, I hear alot of nuts and d'icians refering to that about herbal tea. You can have your herbal tea - they are wrong. It is found in trace amounts in actual tea. Herbal teas are only going to have the properties of the plants/parts of plants that are in the tea, many herbal teas do not have tea at all. Cannibus tea might actually have a slight appetite stimulant but not anything signifigant I would think. If it is used for nausea you would only have a small amount. The THC - yes it will probably stay in your system for a small amount of time - no more than 30 days. LOL, I know someone out there has at least tried this - I wish they would post.If it works and people would come out and say so that could go along way twords the pharmacopea of plants we have available for this type of surgery. My husband and I were talking to an herbalist friend about the teas we could make from day one and add the supplements to, and get the nutrition and additional positive effects at the same time. Definately be careful with what you consume. Some teas will have unwanted effects, such as diuretics and blood thinning - and alot of them are in the weight loss teas!
  16. Theoretically it is good for nausea. There seems to be ALOT of nausea posts here and there - anyone know of someone, or anyone ic CA use cannibus tea? Please not alot of finger wagging, it is a legitimate question - ALOT of what is posted re:excessive nausea sounds like chemo treatments!
  17. OMG! Don't EVER tell a fat group of women eating a cheesecake that you have decided to have VGS! :o

  18. Very sorry about the sleep apnea! Every hope for you that your insurance approval does not take a long time.
  19. Wow - I soooo need to start spell checking! Sorry!
  20. That is great. I did not wait for approval for insureance, but it did take several to finally decide to go through with it. I did not have an approval process but I did have a point that I went and made my first payment to the doctor. 8000$ (UGH!) - Does that count. It made it feel very, very real, lol. I will go on my liquid diet the day after your surgery. I will be following you closely - keep us informed!
  21. Went to new doctors office today. Got all of my literature and forms and signed alot of stuff, lol. Free samples of Unjury and some other protien drink, calcium and multi tabs, etc. Next visit Thursday, will take official before pics. Setting other visits as I go. OMG this is real! AGGGhhhh!

  22. Have officially switched MD's. Feeling good about this doctor, but admittedly that shook my confidence quite a bit.
