  1. The bathroom scale is weighing me in at 120 lbs. Not possible - that would be 110+ lbs in a week. So the scales are broken -Noooo....lol. We are currently at my Hubby's family sheep farm (organic, Kosher, humanitarian award-winning, BTW) in Jonesborough, Tn. I think I will be going up to the sheep scales at the main barn to weigh myself. It is so cold outside! I miss Houston!
  2. Do you mean your PCP said try a prescription med first, or try a supplement that he was pushing, and then charged (and made a profit also)? If so to the latter - a non-FDS regulated or approved supplement the same as if it came of an OTC shelf, check with your state, you may have reason to file a complaint, and do so right away. There is an emergeing amount of PCP docs that are starting to push weight loss "solutions" onto their patients. It is wrong and unethical. If you were told to try to take an excessive amount of with an amphetamine, or a drug that you couldnot maintain over a long period of time, you may also have an issue. I know that isnt the thread of the conversation but when I read your quote I thought about it and I have meant to post something on the subject anyway.
  3. peppermint tea - celestial seasoning is an inexpensive brand and forgiving in preparation. bring Water to boil, pour into a ceramic mug, allow to sit about 1 min, the out in 1 te Bg for 8 oz water. allow to sit about 3-4 mnutes. try 3 minutes at first - bitter tea, especially this tea, is either too hot water, too long in steeping, etc. When you remove the bag, do not squeeze the excess into the mug. I find it very refreshing, calming and it settles the stomach. crystal light fruit punch, orange, raspberry and strawberry are good. Also unflavored protien in lightl honey water is good - and not very many carbs, actually!
  4. It isn't kg. I thought about that too, but that would have been a big weight gain. I haven't gained, lol.
  5. If you are having the lap band removed, and there were no serious problems (there are cases where it has created abcesses and such, or fiberous inclusions or the stomach had grown around it), then I would educated-guess that it should not be too much more painful to have both procedures at once. I don't know how the surgery you had went, and of course cannot fortell how your next one will go. They will have to remove the port where you filled the band, and then remove everything through an opening with a trocar inserted, and of course the sleeve will be where they remove your stomach, and I think I read where there is no need to remove it from a different location than where they extract the lapband equipment - You can have the complications of gas and such everyone has with the sleeve. Good question...waiting to hear from those who really know, lol.

    Self-pay: Is It Worth It?

Rootman, kinda not appreciated - you edited my comment, did not note that you had, then corrected me on it - you left out the part, in caps, where I said to check with a CPA.
  7. I think I would have liked to have the surgery while I was younger - but I also disagree strongly. Hindsight is 20/20 but ten years ago I think I would not have been ready to feel comfortable with myself, I would have felt like I was giving up. I am just happy to do it now - and now I am in a much more stable place financially, at 28 I would have had to take out loans and accumulated sooo much debt - and then pay it off just to be able to get loans to afford the plastics!

What Does A Leak Feel Like?

I fly home Friday, so if it hasn't gone away I will definately see the doctor. If it gets worse or develops further, I will see one here. Promise!

    I Am Sleeved!

Congradulations to your new found chance at health and well-being!
  11. If I could do something different - this is something born only of hindsight, but I would have read more books (although I read alot) and would have tried to work it out in my head if anything happened while I was recovering, such as bad news or emergencies - but I guess you cannot anticipate some of what can come your way (as some of you know, my Mother passed away on my 1 week post-op date. She was 58 and it was totally unexpected). Some things I did do but did not need, BUT would do again (before you read it, let me explain I have always been what I call a pesimistic optimist - I plan and implement, then if nothing happens so be it): -My medical records stored on an online email account, and a memory stick, as well as my life insurance policy, health insurance info, etc. A list of meds, too. -a bug-out bag that I added some specifics to. I had baby wipes, hibiclens, and small "kits" of sterile gauze and tape, but added packets of protien powder and a small shake bottle (I always keep a bug-out bag, emergencies will not wait until you recover). I also added an old-lady( lol sorry) push cart that you can fold and unfold to my useless gadgets in the trunk in case I had a bit more than I could carry somewhere for awhile. -make sure you have the correct phone numbers for emergency services in your area on you phone and listed somewhere - 911 may not be able to find you if you use a cell phone. -towing/roadside assistance - even if you do not normally use it, make sure your service includes full tow, full tire change and if possible the "ride home" feature. I usually change my tire but even two weeks out I would not want to risk it. Probably not for awhile. - If I had not had a hubby that could stay with me while I was (am) healing, I would have probably signed up for the life alert home system for at least the first couple of months. If it sounds over the top, everything I listed took me less than two hours to shop for, arrange, confirm, etc...

    9 Hours To Go!

I am sorry for the pain ans nausea - were you given meds to go home on? Hydrocodone in liquid (sipped) took the edge off for me, and where we have to sip it so slowly I was able to gauge exactly how much I needed - never used a full dose. I had the generic but liquid fenergan will help the nausea and help you sleep. I hope all went well - I was so disoriented, and they started out by giving me a pain med that would put me to sleep, but as soon as I needed to walk or the nurses needed something from me I would be awake and the pain would start, UGH! A nurse actually suggested to the doctor that I be switched to hydrocodone. I cannot stress how important it is to stay hydrated right now, even if you have to use a dropper and an egg timer! Get in as much protien as you can. Some is better than none, but do what you can. Good luck!

    Breast Issues

I cannot say I have, but I think I can see how it could be a posibility. I would suggest to keep yourself at least somewhat supported at all times. Why do you have to wait until April to ask your doctor? I would consider checking with your Gyno too. It could be something that needs attention.
  14. It sounds good to me! Let's compare : before WLS, it took me almost 16 months to lose 30-some pounds, and you dod the same in two months, lol. I was sleeved on the 4th, and my last weigh in (only one, actually) post-op I was 10 lbs down, and that was about 4 days ago.
  15. Hey there! Did Danielle's post help? Don't hesitate to post questions, and I encourage you to let me know if I can be of any assistance to you. Good luck!
  16. Thank you. Yes, I am doing my best to hang in. My Hubby has, again, been a Lighthouse in a storm. He is with me nearly every second, and my friends have been so supportive - I am including you guys here! I cannot say that it has totally sunk in that my Mom has passed away. I am glad now that I had not told her about my WLS - I would always wonder if she had been worrying about me when she passed. I have noticed a trend mentally to focus on my foods and Water a bit more, so I think the initial shock is wearing off, and my mind is getting back into the here and now. Enough to take care of my healing. God Bless!

What Does A Leak Feel Like?

Not alot of pain, I am 2 weeks post op and I am definately not vomiting and I don't think I am runnung a fever. I just seem to have a new pain - the best way I can think of how to describe it - and I think I have had it a few days now. My Mom passed away on my 1 week post-op date, and I don't think I noticed until today that it was more than a twinge or two, it seems to be a full-out pain, persistent but not accute. I am 1100 miles away from home, and my doctor. I would definately take the sysmptoms you describe to the local ER, ASAP. I just wondered if there are warning signs I could be experiencing. Thank you for your responses!
  18. I am not glad that anyone else is having problems with burping, yet I am very glad to know it is a common thing! I burp at the drop of a hat. They can be very loud. I cannot help it. I was walking late at night the evening I came home from surgery and my neighbor came over and I could hear her laughing - and when she got to me she told me even thought she couldn't see me for the bushes and shadows she knew the big hooded shadow was me. She recognized my burping from her earlier visit! She heard it 3 houses down! I was so embarassed but she didn't mind, she just thought it was funny. I try to stay at just a little less foods (stage three foods) than I think fill me up - it sometimes works. Nothing works with fluids. That is just a burpfest. My sister asked me "you cant out your hand over your mouth?". Yes! But every minute? I just can't keep my hands that free. Plus it isn't healthy to constantly put your face against your palm or hand. Oh well...Good luck everyone!

    Self-pay: Is It Worth It?

If your medical bills equal over 7.5% of your income you can deduct the overage from your taxes. SO take ALL medical expenses an add them together - out of pocket anything, co pays, spouse, kids, etc....dental and vision too - and you get that back. So if you are single and make 50,000 that is 3500$ that you would start to get a refund, if you dont owe anything else, of course. So you could get a simple interest loan, and pay until you refund paid it off - I am not a tax professional in anyway CHECK IT OUT WITH A CPA!!! Good luck!
