Since he is running high, be prepared for him to feel really bad, maybe for awhile, even if his bg gets under control. When you go from running high to normal, especially if it lower end normal, it can feel very bad - and yes, maybe make you more hungry. be sure it is a real low before feeding it, there will be alot temptation for him to use it as an excuse to eat the carbs his body is craving. Let him go to at least 50 before you feed it, but 50 needs extreme monitoring, after that, or if you dont chose to still go so low, only feed it with low sodium carb choices. 2-3 oz of juice with 2-3 oz of Water is a good choice. Drink dont gulp - remember right now he should be practicing smaller drinks and such. Ok - one question - why is he not on here asking the questions?

Are you keeping track of your target heart rate? Do you have diabeties? If it only starts after a certain level, then I would say just take it a bit easier. Remember to not breathe in your shoulders, breathe in your belly. Poor breathing habits while exercising makes you dizzy sometimes - it also makes you hurt, feel tired faster, etc.

After 6+ Months Out, Is Losing Weight, And Maintaining Weight, Harder Or Easier?
Pookeyism replied to K33's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not quite at 5 months and I would have to say for me it is no harder, but probably slighter different reasons, since I have a metabolism issue I am fighting also. Just to touch base I have a problem with my body acclimating to whatever calories I am eating pretty quick, and I have to shuffle it around. So you can only shuffle down so far, you also have to shuffle up. With the sleeve I could easily shuffle down. I bet I could consume 200-300 calories a day if I wanted to, but who would? To avoid nutrition issues I have been focusing on protien first, and veggies second, with nutrients a constant. I purposefully will have a teaspooonfull of pecan oil in a smoothie or something every so many days, etc, to have a higher calorie day. It helps with the metabolism issue. With that said I am right at about 50 lbs since the surgery, and coming up on 5 months, so it will average out to about 10 lbs a month for me. I think that would make alot panick, and feel as if it had not worked. I don't seem to be at risk of gaining it back, and I am still loosing, and my problems with my metabolism would have long destroyed any dieting attempt by now. I know the stats and risks of gaining but I have to say in six months, or a year, etc. If you gain it back it isnt "the sleeve" - no offense to anyone it is your choices, your habits, you food intake, your slacking off at the gym or whatever. It could be easy to do, the hunger beast is not necessarily there, and unfortunately alot of sleevers seem not to battle or deal with the head hunger as much as they find ways (as one said) "to work with my sleeve so I can still binge if I really need to". If you eat the snack foods, the angel food cake and cheetos and learn to drink while eating, go back to the same food choices, etc. yes, as time progresses you will likely sabotage yourself. I know of a lady, she is not on here that I know of (if she is she will ahve probably told her story better than I did). She lost 100 lbs and kept if off a year, so she was at about 2 years before she got off track. Then there was the summer of McDonalds. She would walk to the food court in a mall accross the highway and it started out with salads and Soups onto chicken sandwiches and finally hamburgers and fries and she started getting the bigger burgers with no veggies and would take off the top bun, and what she didnt finish she would pick at with a fork the rest of her work day, so she added over 500-800 calories a day to her diet in a matter of a few short months. By october she was 30 lbs up, 20 more by december. Luckily she caught herself and got back down. I think of her alot in my journey, especially when I go "I can have that ONCE". -
My Unexpected Nsv - It Rocked!
Pookeyism replied to Pookeyism's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thank you! Yes, Rammstein is awesome, there has always been trouble with are they hard industrial or punk with hardcore, etc...but anyway the show was top three in presentation that I have ever seen. I have been to many, many shows. If you are familliar then you probably know how hardcore these get - and one thing I did not mention was I was seated to where we were all standing and just going at it for the whole four hours - and no tired feeling, soreness, achy feet, etc. -
I eat small cubed pieces of watermelon. I have started to do so almost daily since Houston started getting back into the 90's. I keep some in the fridge and some in the freezer. If you eat ot dont cut up your piece til you are ready to eat it, or eat it with a baller, so you dont release all of your fluids. I find watermelon to be refershing, keeping my liquids high, and it breaks down when properly chewed to where you can have alot. I HAVE noticed it is still best to measure it. It is fibery and if you eat your fill, it can take a long time to pass. I also think it has cause occasional tummy aches.

Did you have surgery with the doctor knowing you thought you might have candidiasis systemic enough to cause you to alter your diet? I was told if you are thought to have any ongoing Candidiasis it had to be treated first. The "shock" of surgery can allow candidiasis to spread rapidly, especially if the surgery cause an infection that required antibiotics. If you think you have candidiasis please make sure to go to a doctor and have cultures done on the spots where you think you have it. You need to know for sure, because other serious problems are similar. Sorry its just that your post caught my eye. I had a friend thst nearly died to to mistreatment. They kept giving her antibiotics abroad. It was horrible. Talk about weight loss! She went from 5'1' 130 lbs to 72 lbs before she got any real help.

Possible Damage To Sleeve
Pookeyism replied to HopeThruFaith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may want to talk to your doctor, but my stomach became inflamed again about 3 weeks out and - dont become too concerned - it took me weeks longer to change to solids and I had begun some very modest solids and had to regress. Get back to very basics. Now, may I ask why you even have those types of foods in your home anymore? tisk, tisk, tisk Good luck sweetie. -

When Did Your Stomach Stop Hurting
Pookeyism replied to jaymzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would not transition over to another phase yet.Go back to shakes and see if you still hurt. It may be a sign you just arent ready for softs or mushies. Take the smallest bites and wait about at least 30 seconds between each bite. -
Not Even Two Weeks Out, Calories High

And alot of smoothie places have the isopure protiens to add to your smoothie, but again a smoothie for me is when I know I am aiming for the calories too. -

36 oz of milk is alot of sugar, too - is there a reason to make your protien with milk. I only did that when I needed to add a few calories. Dont forget the importance of your daily Vitamins and supplements, if you body doesn't register enough basic stuff coming in - not just energy (calories) but Water, vitamins and minerals and especially sleep, you will tend to stall and or lose less. -
Who Has Lost Over 100 Pounds Post-Op?
Pookeyism replied to janiadurl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is great that you have been approved - but I wish your info had a bit more about you, your city and state would be helpful in letting the specific people you need most to chime in. Do you have the ability to "pick" from such a wide scope? You may want to first get a list of the doctors in your area and see who is covered. You really want to use a doctor in your are if you can. A good local doctor will be as acceptable as a great one a hundred miles away, doubly so if you have need to return more than anticipated. -

Could you post a day's journal? To get an idea of what you are consuming? -
I would not think of the loss of the binge drinking keggers, or anything similar as missed experiences. You will miss them in a sense, or should, and could soon enough get driunk again, but why? I have never fell off my roof, flunked a grade, broke any major bones playing a high school sport, etc - like some people I know have, but they arent experiences I "miss" either, lol.

What Was The Worst... (Newbie Here!)
Pookeyism replied to Alexis's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The hardest part was having to deal with my Mom passing away a week after my surgery. It created alot of stress and more and caused a bit of trouble with me progressin gfrom liquids and very sof mushies. Beyond that, I think the point where it hit that I had to admit I needed this, it was hard. I had tried sooo long. To admit I can't do it was kind of a dicotomy to the fact that I knew I could...with the surgery. -
74 Days Post Op...ok To Drink Alcohol
Pookeyism replied to rizabonita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would experiment at home before you go out in public, and keep the TUMS handy. Remeber alcohol can affect you in some really different ways now, especially after losing weight and maybe going off meds. If you are going off meds, you need to consult your pharmacist rather than your NUT. For me, for example - I am not considered diabetic anymore, but I had an atypical diabetes anyways, and I still can dip soooo very low, and alcohol aggrivates that, but I can never tell how much. -
They are scared, and concerned, and need to relate it to themselves. They need a pat on the back, and should always be able to get it here and never worry if they posted something for the umpteenth time.

No. And now I am concerned too.

I am wearing a pair of size 14's to work today. OMG! I am not even sure where they came from - I think a friend may have left them a long time ago! I found them while getting ready for my yard sale. Hubby has been gone about 10 days, I do not think I could have wore these jeans then! and today is weigh in day - I wonder if I have broke my stall...wish me luck. Everybody - keep going! Wherever you are don't stop! Good luck & God bless!

Pre-Op Weightloss Wow!
Pookeyism replied to Ready2Bthin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes you can lose alot quickly - some of that is water, but yes initially you can. You want to taper off the extreme loss soon, in my opinion, to give your body a chance to adjust and such. i say only "soon" because some people have more of a need to be at least at a certain level of weigh loss than others (knee pain, or blood pressue, diabetes and other co-morbidities), so your want of steady losss may be bettered by a rapid decent to a healthy(er) weight. -
My Nutritionist Just Called Me An "anomaly" :/
Pookeyism replied to Wheetsin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can tell you you sound really similar to me - I have been doing a little better after the surgery but I have a metablic condition that my body kinda "tricks" itself into needing just what calories I happen to be providing - and if it is "excessive" in what it is interpreting as enough I have seem weight gains at 1000 calories a day. But seriously - here is the deal - something in what you are doing is just not quite what it seems - be very thorough and careful. I know this from experience. I do not respond the same from 1000 calories a day of 30+ are carbs as opposed to 10 or so carbs. I have to have excessive amounts of Water. I canot eat highly processed foods. Thing is, if you aren't snipping around the ends, then it is just a long process - but with the sleeve you will lose. It has become an invaluabel tool while I wait out my stalls and literally outstubborn my metabolism.
