PS - that increases as you build muscle mass!!! I had a friend that had plastics after 2 years, and she went to a sports doc, did all the exact measurements, etc and was told minimally 120g/p per day.
-
Minimum 60 if you were not working out and did not have an active job. But your minimum increases with height, original muscle mass, rate you are working out and type. A jump in head's first cardio/weight training stair climbing sleever will probably need to aim for minimum 80. 90 if they were already working out and such for awhile pre op. No one told me that really, I did a bit of research on protien needs...I will see if I kept the links anywhere.

I don't know if it will help, but I am going to specifically request my doctor support VST - tell his patients about it minimally, run and ad if possible, etc. I know there are so many of us out there that just do not know about this forum. My doctor performs anywhere from 5-25 surgeries a week, and figure in how many are done overall. I wish everyone knew! OK, so doctor, FB (I don't twitter) I am going to put it on Pinterest, hmmm...anything else?

Okay guys and dolls! It is summer, its hot, there are sooo many things to do and places to go. Lets go do them! Suggestions, or can I throw out a few things and we pick? I really want to do this. I was thinking a day at one of the botanical gardens, or the beach, rent the bikes or something!

I am of the firm opinion you eat whatever calories you need to get in your protien. The rest is gravy. well, shouldn't be gravy! lol Water, Vitamins and nutrients and sleep are key in stalls - exercize too, but if you are already exercizing even just modestly, the sleep, water and nutrients is where I, in my experience, will see the difference. Fluxuating in daily calories 15- 200 or so helps me too, but for very specific reasons to do with my poo-poo metabolism. PS - I stall alot, so take what I say with, well, with that in mind I guess

It's like that Paramore song, "It just feels soooo good!" Kuddos to you. I am sorry I know no one can give it the emphasis it feels like it deserves, but know we are all so happy for you!

Is It Ok To Drink Water Right After A Protein Shake?
Pookeyism replied to Butterthebean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Listen to your body on this one, but I would wait a few minutes. I just feel better not combining anything too fast with my Water. Not long, even 5 minutes is better than nothing. That isn't a rule it is a preference. if you do chase your protien shake, consider adding some bebeful Fiber to your water, to prevent constipation and "separate" your morning bulk from your lunch. -
What You Wish You Had Known About The Sleeve
Pookeyism replied to ChaChaBurch's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Specifically about the sleeve, nothing I can think of. I wish I could have been more aware I would not have any major complications during surgery, lol. I do not think I sounded very confident to my Hubby sometimes. Actually, I think I would have liked to have been more realistic and reminded myself that knowledge is sometimes thwarted by experience. I knew so much, read so much, but it all FELT different, and actually dealing with it is more thorough, more time consuming, more of a complete change than I expacted - even though I knew what to expect. Oh yes!!!! The NSV's - I did not anticipate how important it was to have and acknowledge the NSV's. These small and not so small things are so very important. VST - I did not anticipate just how important daily interaction could be for me. Without VST this would be a very different, lonely experience. Hope that helps. -
Pre-Op Diet And Phentermine
Pookeyism replied to sillygirlmi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on phentermine for my metabolism on a schedule that was intended to help keep my metabolism shook up. The on-again period kicked in and went up to 3 days from surgery. My doctor said it was ok, but I had to keep a very careful eye on my blood pressure and heart rate. If I had too elevated pressure it could have caused issues. I have never heard of it preventing the reduction of fat in the liver, no offense to any previous posters. It is often prescribed to people who need to eat less in an attempt to ease the liver's size. -
OK - so last night was quite a NSV, or maybe more than one. I went to the Toyota Center here in Houston to go see Rammstein (think German punk/industrial). So it started out with me realizing I had nothing to wear - so I went out and boutght a pair of 36 Dickies workpants - after realizing 38 were too loose, and searched my closet one more time and found a military pinstripe steampunk shirt I had made for a guy friend but he never picked it up - fit! So I throw on a red tie and some extras and my steel toes boots and off I go. I stopped at smoothie place I go into regularly (in workout garb or very casual) and they just flipped out - I thought for a bit they were joking (the outfit is not something most walk around in 90 degree heat, or for tha matter 40 degree, lol). They bought my smoothie for me, took my pic, I have promised a before pic to post with it, too. I get to the center and I blend in. I wasn't the big chick, I was just another face. My shirt got several looks (that shirt rocks on its own) but past the costume I was just another person. I didnt have to worry about the seat, or the person to either side of me. I didn't need a purse. I just has some cash, a couple cards, id, and my asthma inhailor (unfortunatey that is more allergy related than weight, and smoke is a big trigger). No BG meter, no meds. So in the first time in for-absolutely-ever I just walked out with the fewest necessities! Crazy! Outside the venue my friend who was meeting me there could not find me, Even when I got up on a bench and waved. She had not seen me in a couple of years. She told me "I mean, I knew it had to be you, but I was like, no way!" There is actually more, but if you have been this patient I guess I should wrap it up! lol. It.Just.Felt.So.Good!

So Is It Just Me?
Pookeyism replied to beautifuldiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yeah, and it still happens to me on occasion. I sound like a washing machine draining out the last dregs of water...that swirly-swishy sound. I can feel it too. -

No, But may I ask the name? -
Here in Houston My Fit Foods is a chain (so to speak) you go in and they have all of the meals and such in freezers. there seems to be several in the Dallas area too... The plan is pretty expensive, but I actually eat from several My Fit Foods just out of choice. If the portions are the same and the quality is too you will enjoy the food. Just be sure to talk to one of the dieticians and be sure they supply the meals short on veggies and long on protien, and carbs are held in check (most are anyway). I cant imagine you need as much as the plan provides, you should probably buy a la carte. If you can go to the restaraunt or store front and look at the dishes, etc.

Alot of us have posted questions here about if we wish we had had surgery sooner, regrets about this or that, they are all good questions. I do know I think the years would have been easier if the weight were not there. I can not imagine not being with my husband, thick or thin, so I do not regret the years, just that I were not in the health I wanted to be, and the worry and expense it has caused us. I tried so hard to keep the weight off as a teenager to be able to join the military I almost developed anorexia. I do have a regret. I regret not being able to fight for my country. My great grandfathers fought, my grandfathers fought. Uncles, great-uncles and more. My Grandfather was in WWII, fought in The Battle of the Bulge (Ardennes Offensive) and saw in other events some of the hardest fighting to be done, Pacific Theatre included. he then volunteered again for Korea. He holds the Bronze Star. He passed away last October, the last of his friends. Five times wounded in battle. He lay beside my Aunt, his baby girl. I do not know all of his stories, I think he took much to the grave. One day in February of 2011, as he was reaching the final stages of Alzheimers, he and my Husband sat by a fireplace and my husband oversaw him starting a fire, he started talking to my Hubby about the things he had seen and done, and were done to him, and did not stop for hours. I do knot know all of what was said, except that my Hubby waited till my Pappaw went to sleep, my Husband looked different. Older. Sad. he kissed me and told me a bit about what happened and proceeded to drink for hours. He never drinks. I regret never being to be able to join the military. I regret I cannot be there. I regret I cannot fight, for you and myself. That is my regret. I did not post it here, because it was a very difficult thing to talk about, but I tried to join the Texas State Guard once I hit onderland. I did not get very far - due to age but also the sleeve and diabeties and asthma, I was turned down. That is my regret. If you fought, thank you. I tried. If I am ever asked to fight, or be allowed to volunteer, I will be there.

Good luck to you, you have quite a journey ahead of you. Your decision is made, the next we hear of you will be after your surgery! This is a tremendous thing we do here, each of us. What we give ourselves and what it offers to our loved ones is beyond value. My Mom passed on a week after my surgery. She was 58. She had no weight issues, except being too thin. I am 38. My mom was 58. If I pass at the same age that is 20 years, and honestly Six months ago I doubted I had 20 years in me left. If it gave me only an extra year, only even the same years but feeling better, it is more than worth it. Now I can fight - figureatively and literally. I am back into so much I missed. Godspeed.

When I met my Husband in 1999 I was a size16. Fast forward to 2007 while down from my largest (I dont know how big it was, 28 was tight and I refused to get on a scale once I weighed in at 296), so again down from my largest, but still a size 26 and 285 lbs or so, I am diagnosed with diabeties. I had the diabeties in control within a year I had 6.2 or better a1c, but never the weight. I initially lost to about 245 and would do that a few times. The meds are so frustrating, you have to keep them with you, test, test,test... I have been told I am not diabetic anymore. Actually the percentage of people who are in remission that have had the sleeve is very disproportionate to people who have just lost weight, and there is no clear answer why. Your chances of being in remission at some point is very good. Good luck to you, and welcome to VST!
