Post Surgery Infection
Pookeyism replied to Debra StC's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You absolutely MUST consult with your surgeon...be careful, you can wait a little too long or you can not wait long enough...which sounds worse to you? -
Thread Removed? Re:septic
Pookeyism replied to atlast1976's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I commented on it but I cannot find it either... I have submitted a question based on her statement to The American Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Association, and I am waiting on a response. I will follow up when I get one - but I would not worry too much, 10 years out the staples are no longer what is holding you together, from my understanding. -
Vitamins Question
Pookeyism replied to msaprildawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thing is about vitammin deficiency is it creeps up on you - and you don't really get a chance to fix it often the damage is done. You really should be taking your Vitamins daily. You body does not take a Vitamin and use it in isolation - imagine a closet full of toys - it isn't like a hula hoop, you pull it out and use it. It is more like barbie - you need the dolls, and clothes, the house and the car and the beach party set and - you get the picture? all of this stuff has to come out to work together...now imagine it being a one-time only thing, you have to replace ti to use it again... Vitamin deficiencies open us up to immmunity disease, increased cancer risk, bone density and joint issue - and yes, how you body will look during and sfter weight loss (not to mention how you age and heal from sun exposure) literally everything you can imagine and then some... I have a chewable from Wal-mart that was recommended - Natures Own, and they are inexpensive and go down easy. -

What Have You Heard?
Pookeyism replied to AnewMe@28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup but be careful, er, with the gas til you can "feel" them out - they can be tricky exiting, if you know what I mean. You can make very filling smoothies and ice juicers AND a tea that is very similar to tapioca!!! -
Drinking Water And Staying Hydrated
Pookeyism replied to nydia33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes you just have to sit down, and not get back up till you have had at least a few ounces of Water. I still get distracted and so not sip enough, which can leave me at a deficit by the end of the day. A bit more personal - consider tracking your urination levels...you may be losing excessive water. -

It's not a negative review, it is pointing out another part of the process...people come here and read these posts just for this type of information. What was good, bad and mediocre. With our care politeness over why something was is ok...just mention it too to be safe, and spare people glowing, glossy reviews of a process that actually may have been less than. It is a patient asking a physician a question after abdominal surgery, not a friend failing to respond after you asked them if they were free this weekend. -
Six months ago today I was a week out from surgery - and my Mom passed away. I had not yet told her, but I think she must know...it is raining out, a cold, wet, cliffisde rain - it is appropriate somehow, but I am at peace. I love you, Mom.

Coming Up On A Year
Pookeyism replied to LVikingFan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are eating healthy and keeping a moderate pace on exercize, it seems totally possible that your body has caught up, so to speak, and is back on a level that it can let go of weight again. -
Yay for you! Re: sneakers...until you can get a new pair try spraying them with downy wrinkle reducer inside, and blast them with the hair dryer and lace them tight, wait ti they dry and thy might be more snug - an conform to your new foot better.

Am I Not Allowed To Be Afraid?
Pookeyism replied to JourneyOfAFatKid's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tell them what you told us - simplify or elaborate based on the person and how you know them to be in regards to individual catch phrases... ...My hubby was terrified, and I had seen this in him before in 2007 when I was hit by a car and was admitted for emergency surgery, etc. I wrote him a Christmas Card since we were spending the Holidays more or less focused on my surgery. I can't remeber exactly what it said but it went like this: "Baby, I want to apologize for all of this happening over the Holidays, and I appreciate so much how you are giving those special days over to my needs. You are always so generous that way, and you are such a good caretaker. You never fail to tend your kith and kinder you anticipate my needs readily and I see, I know, that you give of yourself more than you should, more than is what is easy or convenient. Thank you so much. I am concerned for my welfare but confident, and we are nearing the end of the tests, and will have the NYE to Celebrate a truly new year. I need this surgery, and I have you to calm me, reassure me that my choices are good - I need one more thing from you - do your best to try and phrase your words with me in a way that will make me feel confident as we continue through this, while not failing to let me know when you feel frightened or scared. " I took the way I know he sees me, his responsibilities, what points make him feel validated and expressed how I fee in terms that are on his levels of perception - so he could take what I said and use it for himself as comfort, flattery and praise and that enabled him to give back to me in expressing himself while still supporting me. Tell them specifically what you want, feel, and need, AND can give. The way you word it can be essential right now because you have to break through barriers of fear, some prejudice of seeing repetitive habits, attempts the did not work, etc. You are doing something that seems very foreign to many in regards to a rational way to deal with anything less than somethign broken, infected, cancerous, etc...that is how so many regard surgery. We have to come to people on this journey on individual levels, so that if you have to walk away (talking here more on friendship levels) you know you made reasonable effort. Then you focus on yourself, because you will have to very, very soon. -
Funny... But I Freaked Out!
Pookeyism replied to karen74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
may I suggest getting rid of the digital scales alltogether? They are really no more accurate overall...just be sure to put your scales in the same, even floor each time and dont drop, plop them around. Also, don't store them on their side, shake them alot or store them in a high humidity area. You might laugh but I have a friend that hooked a swing to her hubby's big game scale and weighs that way. I weigh with scales at my warehouse, which I have purposefully removed the oz. and odd numbers from the scale on one setting, and I weigh no more than 1x week, more like 1x every two. The weight is not your biggest gauge in all of this, and I think, just from observation (no real tracking, just observation on the most basal pre-hypothesis level) that the people who focus on the scale do a bit if disservice to their progression than those who stay focused on daily nutritional needs, keep a journal of foods, vary their interests and are focused on eliminating bad habits. It is so easy to get caught up on looking at the scale, and I have been guilty of it too - but I have somehow managed a very relaxed point of view regarding the scale, it has worked for me as my stalls increase and the weight loss slows down, speeds up etc. -

I would say it is an individual call, but I would leave children at home, elderly also - too many communicable diseases. Also, and no offense, it just isn't the place to have a child potentially act out. Yes, I know, but yes, they do.

Spicing Up Clear Broth
Pookeyism replied to TheNewSusie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can put just about any veggie in your clear broth, either put it in cheesecloth or sift it when you are done. A beef or chicken bullion cube will help broth so much! -
My Knockout Breakfast But Do You Have A Knockout Lunch And/or Dinner?
Pookeyism replied to HondaCivicDude's topic in Food and Nutrition
1 tbsp of tambiko caviar - wasabi flavored w/ about 1-2 oz of sushi grade salmon and an evoo- wasabii emulsion. My "I kicked ass" after bike-ride lunch. -
cut up the whole thing, eat tlittle bits till you feel satiated (or about 4-5 1"cubes whichever comes first) Now, take the rest and add oatmeal, cucumber and flax seeds and blend well, apply it to all your stretch marks and face and neck... My own personal "good in/good out" recipie, lol...

If you are feeling no pain then I would not worry about the leak, call you doc, too. Here is a suggestion: There is canned chicken and roast beef that us called a "spread" if you can't take any protien drinks, take about a third of a can to half a cup of cambells V8 soup - either butternut squash or veggie blend or broccoli, and add about 2-4 oz Water and blend the heck out of it, sift it and that will give you at least some protien, and veggies, too or unjury unflavored protien in some soup - but keep the soup under 130 degrees...blend well Mootopia milk - 12g to 8 oz - it has half the sugars, lactose free and comes in regular, vanilla or chocolate...if you take 8 oz, 4 0z of ice cubes and a scoop of unjury unflavored you know have a 12 oz 32 g protien drink... consider the protien shots in the little vials - I have heard that our body "does not absorb it as well" but I have heard just the contrary from a much more reliable source...
-
I don't think so - or when I do it is usually my sinuses acting up, lol. I lost it slow, kept as hydrated as I could and was really good to myself - pritien first, second, third - veggies too - juices and Soups...vitamins
