The best way to tell if your body tolerates it is, well, if ti tolerates it. That is why I suggest a daily journal that not just tells wha tyou ate - but a general note of headaches, cramps, excessive gas, runny stool, etc...while your body "learns".

A1C Level To High For Surgery
Pookeyism replied to Mslnzee2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
He is calling it correctly. You need to get back on your insulin. Thing is, uncontrolled means higher heart disease rates, higher complication rates, slower healing times, and better chance you will just not really be productive in the weight loss. Remember - diabeties creates issues all through your body. It affects your thoughts, creates cravings, it is basically an auto immune disease, and affects how you process your food. it relates to cancer, heart disease, breathing ailments, degenerative bone conditions, arthritis... There is no guarantee this surgery will cure you and even if it does it takes time. you have to stay in your meds until told to do otherwise. -
Blood Sugar Spikes On Pre Op Clear Liquid Diet?
Pookeyism replied to ugot2laff's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, yes it you are off your meds spikes are possible...Take a reading every hour, and let your doc know that it is, at this point, not feesable for you to be off all of your meds...this can actually hinder your healing! ...what are you on? Not everyone can get off their meds - you don't just get high reading because of your food choices, and there is nothing to say you started out as a type 2, BUT have type 1 isues now. Were you a controlled diabetic before? I am not a doctor, but I do know about this, and have seen this in patients I have advocated. I was diagnosed in 2007, and went into full remisson after being a controlled diabetic from 2007-2012. (controlled 70-110 BG range including morning fasts, and average A1c of below 6 for last 4 years). Just some FYI on why I would offer such specific advise. of course, consult an endo. -
Help Anyone Been Through This ?
Pookeyism replied to emilykate's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The sleeve can be for you, just be sure you have dealt with any issues you saw emerge with the band. it isn't that you can't get pregnant, it that YOU SHOULD NOT. Many, many complications through and after birth, including severe birth defects, arise from nutrition and health habits before conception and during the first trimester - when we don't know we are pregnant. Good luck with whatever decision you find is best for you. keep us informed. If possible if you have not, be sure the study has you noted as a 'fail:due to complications'. I personally do not think the lapband should be allowed on the market, I am sorry you experienced all you did. -
12 Days Post Op And Swollen
Pookeyism replied to MinaKai's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
DId they tell you WHY they would do somethng as invasive as an RNY if you are swelling over the sleeve? Get a second opinion ASAP - non-medical guesstimate I think maybe you doctor is not lettijng you know all that is going on, and they do that when they dont want you to know they slipped up. It is just speculation, but born of a certain amount of observation. I don't want to worry you, just covering one of your bases, so to speak. -
Also, now that you have an idea that your diet can cause this - consider adding a stool softener to your diet routine - if you have any questions ask your doctor. I added 1 capsule of fish oil a day, and 1 tsp evoo or pecan oil to about 3 oz of protien drink in a Blender Bottle and drank the emu. For a brief period I also did a stool softener every other day, and that helped too.

I think instead of opting for surgery, they wrap you in ace bandages, dangle you from the ceiling and give you lipo... I could be mistaken...
-
If you are not in pain there is little chance to worry, from what I have been told and read...if you are really concerned, color your foods with blue dye, and see if you start to get blue fluids. Just a suggestion passed on from someone who actually saw it work (I forget her name - sorry). I did it myself, too.

I would avoind 120 calories just to get vitamins - unless it is LOADED with protien, and the carbs are very low less than 3 or so - because your gummy vitamins provide samee for about 20 cal or 3 carbs.

A stitch or two probably was placed to where it is at odds with how you are laying, it will recede. I got it too for awhile, but for me it was when I was standing. I used a spanks to kinda hold it all together, and it helps.

Cant Stop Crying Any Help?
Pookeyism replied to ambershanee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Amber, are you keeping a log with absolutely everything you are (and are not) doing...make yourself aware of you slip ups? Because chances are you are getting in more calories than you think you are. No offense. Just that chances are that is it, and if so, you have the answers to your own problem. I helped a young lady recently that found about 400 calories a day she wasn't counting - and that was in creamer and iced tea and mismeasuring portions. It can be eye opening to keep a journal. Please consider it if you are not...try myfitnespal. Good luck. -
If you have only been 1 month preop, how long could the stall be Everyone stalls, keep your body nourished and hydrated, exercise and it will come off - you got this! Just wait it out.
-
I don't think i have enough info to tell you about your carbs - are you diabetic? controlled? off your meds??? I ask because it is a common co-morbidity. If you are ok with that, consider making a visit to a sports doc for a complete eval since you have undergone such drastic physical changes - find a sports doc in the area that works with weight loss centers and such. let them discuss with you what could work best. Oh yes - and a pediatrist! to make sure your feet are weathering all this ok.

I had issues but not in the hospital. A week after my surgery my Mom passed away, and between flying in for the funeral and everything I pushed myself too far...the last leg of the flight home I had a really violent episode with my stomach - it isn't easy to explain there was nausea, and vertigo and confusion and PAIN, and fatigue and the symptoms came and went in no steady fashion for hours...they wanted to turn the flight around which made not one whit of sense, since I was on my way home to Houston, and turninng back would have put me in Atlanta - and my family was in Virginia! I have been slow to transition to regular food, but I got there...some days are better than others, but honestly I think I have spoiled myself with liquids.
-
I actually have a video I made the evening before the surgery, but never posted. Maybe I could make another and put them both on... I wish I knew how to use the editing software I would combine them and add in before and after pics, too.

the protien drinks become very important in this regards - you get your protien and your Water... everone is different with water. I used to drink 4-6 oz everytime I went to the bathroom, therefore I got at least so much a day. I have curbed it to about 2 oz, and I keep the littel disposable kiddo cups now, else I would spend a bit of time in the bathroom. I do set aside some time and focus in drinking, if I cannto "see" that I have got in at least 48 oz. of water. I feel my body just needs it too much. Crystal light with unjury unflavored makes good drinks, and you can dilute it to a really thin drink. I am having crystal light wild strawberry, 8 oz normally prepared, with about 6 oz of ice (which is only about 3 oz water). and a scoop of unjury strawberry sorbet...gewd!

It is horrible - and people forget so easy why it is important for us to be able to defend ourselves...this happened in my hometown in the Mountains of SW VA about 2 decades ago and they guy did kill 2 people, but nothing like this...good'ol boys took him down. He still had like 150 rounds on him, loaded - imagining makes me shiver... For them all, rememberance. There was fear, and then a light that loves them, and their family was already waiting, because time does not matter there...

Keep us informed!!!!!! and that is awesome news- but please, still seek counseling and try to get into the right mindset before you have the surgery! All the best to you!!!!

How Long Should It Take To Drink A Protein Shake?
Pookeyism replied to vinnyfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
small portionas and waiting abotu 20 min in between is not a bad idea...you can use this also to learn how to "feel" when you are not yet too full. -
Determining Ideal Weight...
Pookeyism replied to Parker's Dad's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, remeber - padding is not just what you are aiming for. OUr fat is not just superficial, it is around our organs, and linings and muscles, facia, etc...it is on our liver and even brain. Go to a sports doc and have them do the xrays and check all of that and the submersion test and see what they think. Then make your decision.
