Holy Hell?! Why Does It Cost So Much?!
Pookeyism replied to AStephenson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also, check at other facilities and see what they are charging. These costs can vary wildly...and there is nothig that says you cant go "here" to get one work up because it is cheaper and "there" for the other...try hospitals, non-profits, AND look into your county and state facilities. Women's clinics will sometimes run some of these tests - or at least I recall a post a long time ago that a young lady called into a clinic and explained her needs and they did do the tests for her. -
Hey guys! runforyourlives.com I a running in the Austin run in Dec. 15th and would live for others to go! This was a "1 year later" gift to me, so the pressure is on to survive the Zombie Horde!!!!

My Suggestion-Stop The Obsessing. Rules Are Meant To Be Broken
Pookeyism replied to NJSleeveboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think this is one of the most passive-aggressive posts I have seen here in a long time...I also find the confidence that you exhibit in that what you state is "correct" alarming. It should be noted you addressed the rules with counter arguments no more supported than the original statement. You worded opinions as facts and suggested at evidence you did not support. Mostly, so importantly, no - we aren't here because we broke rules or didn't succeed at a diet, you have to ask yourself how you got to your fatness (my word) and understand your habits and your triggers. This is not black and white, or even green-go red-stop as you suggest. I wish you would re-read and re-think your post. -
I avoid "ose"es (sugar) unless it is in the veggies or maybe grains, but I did let myself have some frozen yogurt once...George (my sleeve) did not like it.

One.der.land!finally!
Pookeyism replied to victoriatxgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for you! I remember that goal, and how I felt to reach it! Consider a light yoga routine...just 5-10 minutes a day, it will get you ready for when you are ready to work out in earnest. -
When Should I Tell My Boss?
Pookeyism replied to Babysteppin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are under no obligation to tell her why you are having surgery, but some heads up as to when might be helpful...offices are so different and bosses vary so much. I would, not knowing your circumstances, not tell them about your surgery until you have a firm date. However, if you feel your supervisor will be an advocate and understanding about the missed work and such if they were aware, it is your call. PS have your hsort term disability paperwork signed by the doctor BEFORE you go into surgery - and yes they can do that. It is done with a letter from the doctor saying this paperwork was filled out in advance, in anticipation etc...but my doc filled it out in advance with out all of that. Regarding missed time for appointments, etc. I do not know how your time off runs, but if it is accumulated or you can use it up to a certain date within the next year, make up as much time as you can...I went from needing 2 weeks, to surgery, my Mom passing away a week later, ad then complications brough on in part by the surgery itself (I had a huge tumor removed at the same time, which caused my sleeve to be modified), travel and grief...so what was going to be ample time turned into a need to use my short term disability. -

Low Bmi Questionnnnnn
Pookeyism replied to letsdothis!!!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every one is different and 30 lbs lost is great. I think a more important question is how do you feel, are you getting in your protien and Water, exercizing? If you are on any meds have you been evaluated to be sure you are not now taking excessive medication? 30 lbs is a lot of weight to lose. Losing it slowly can have its advantages. I was aiming for minimum nutrient related deficiencies, and less saggy skin. I am doing pretty good. Right now I am at about an 85 pound weight loss, down from size 26 to 14. I am no longer diabetic. If you do what you are supposed to, be very aware of your emotional needs and bad habits, you will lose. It will happen -
Dont rely on the scale, weight loss is a very complex thing, and the body can hold back other things that have mass, and therefore weight. It is entirely possible to lose inches, actually typical, and the scale not move much at all. Get a tshirt and a pair of long shorts or tights - get them purposefully too tight - very snug. Try them on about once a week or so, you will see the inches coming off. Good luck.

Help - Maintenance And Going Back To Eating Carbs
Pookeyism replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you can plan food enough that you can "plan" enjoyment. I have actually turned my Quest for healthy food into meeting new friends, and learning to prepare good food (nope, still can't cook - but I can prep delicious whole food recipies that good for me). I always ate well, my enemies were savory food, cheeses and oils and nuts and grains! oh my! baked breads full of nuts and such, and tons of fruit and veggies, so I have kept what I knew I needed, but modified it to where I can live. -
Uhc Choice Plus Ppo 5 Year Weight History... Need Creative Ideas!
Pookeyism replied to Bronxbubbles's topic in Insurance & Financing
I was self pay, but hopefully some people can come up with solutions they used. Dont forget to search for relevant tags on previous threads. I would get pictures taken during obvious events...birthday pics with you in them, baby showers, graduations, work functions or badges. Do you have any instances you had to go to a walk in clinic on those years, get vaccinated for travel, or any other medical activity that your weight might be noted? Update an id? go to a licensed massage therapist? they are usually requred to complete an initial evaluation of body type, etc?? I would go for a bit of overkill, but not too much, hopefully you can find something each time. And that is why you begin to prepare now, lady's and gent's even if you aren't decided or it is years away!!! -

Help - Maintenance And Going Back To Eating Carbs
Pookeyism replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had to stay away from carbs still. But for me it is good, I think they trigger bad eating habits for myself...my maintenance had an initial gain if about 4 lbs but it has been steady more or less...I still fluctuate within 2+/- depending on several factors. I am getting ready to go off maintenance however, to see if I have it in me to drop another size or two, to be sure I am where I want to be, and maybe get a bit more weight off for my knee. It is also the type of carb, and how it is added. -
Don't worry about your A1c only in terms of this surgery, get back on track because that is a wicked unhealthy number to be at! Take your meds religiously, test several times a day and shuffle it around, no processed carbs, period... I was diagnosed in 2007 with type 2, was at about a 7, dropped to my 5's within 6 months and I was declared in full remission as of March. My last reading was a 4.3 I will help you if you want...

Your Scariest/funniest Moment In Your Journey Of Vsg
Pookeyism replied to beefalogal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There has been some truly scary moments, but I think the pre-journey phase when they realized I had a tumor in my stomach (the original reason for deciding to go ahead and get the sleeve), and just after surgery - my Mom died on my 1 week anniversary. -
Did You Name Your Sleeve?
Pookeyism replied to LawDiva312's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I named mine George, just seemed like a fitting name, lol. -
Wow, Did he say he was going of of any sound research? This diet is good for many reasons, one big one is that you will lose alot of weight on the liquid pre op, your hormones will fluctuate quite a bit - you release alot of estrogen when you lose alot of weight. You will go into ketosis while doing this, and you body will be doing all of this before the surgery, so you won't just wake upand BAM on top of the anest., recovery, possible complications, etc. you will be dealing with all of this too. Plus, if for two weeks you cannot follow a heavily restricted diet, you really need to ask yourself if you are ready - heck yes everyone is ready to lose weight - I mean are you ready for the "forever" part...

Trouble.....
Pookeyism replied to myafternoondesires's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In addition to the flavored Water and teas, consider a distilled water, the additional sats added to drinking water might not agree with your tummy...also experiment with what temperatures you tolerate better. Good luck!
