    Dieting & Diabetes Meds

I just don't think there is enough information here to offer any advise, even if I were a doctor... I would suggest if you dont already start taking you blood at least 8x a day - it sounds like alot but you are going through major changes, and you really need to understand what is happening when. Once you have this parred with a food log, it will be a valuable tool in deciding what to do with your meds. Actos may not be what you need anymore, I thought that was for people who had difficulty controlling highs, any meds causing you to have to "feed" diabeties is counter productive. <diagnosed type 2 2007, went from +7 A1c to within 5's 6 months later, off meds just before surgery jan 4th 2012, and diagnosed in full remission late Feb/early March 2012. A1c in 4's ever since, no meds.

    Snacking Tips

I hate to admit it, but I often revert back to the protien shakes...they are just too easy, and I get my fluids in.

    Stomach Stapled

There is more than one procedure referred to as stapling... This procedure has been around for a long time, but used in weight loss as a primary tool only "recently". This method of stapling and cauterizing has been used to create a smooth pouch for cancer patients, trama, etc...and is still used as a first procedure for peole considered too high risk for the bypass options - the bypass surgery follows after the initial weigh loss and reduction of co-morbidities.

    Looking For Advice

Get a second opinion, and I would email your first doctor and tell him he has one more chance, because if the second doctors remedies this, you wull be expecting all relevant office fees back, and any tests you took and paid for and he did not utilize. Also, ask for all your test results from the first doctor and forward to the second. I would strirongly urge yo to post your doctor's laxadotal response to this on your page, and in internet reviews... May I suggest if you can eat carbs, trying the protien enriched kind?

    91 Pounds Down!

Hubby puts his arms around me and just squeezes - and my wedding band is now on a chain he gifted me "made of finest silver from Spain" so I would no lose it. (my fav song is "Brandy" by Looking Glass)... It is hard. It is awesome. I would do it again. In the end, I did not survive, I thrived. You seem poised and accomplised and doing it too! Keep up the great work!
  8. It kinda goes beyond that. Even if you don't you have. You have to relearn and reevaluate things daily. You have to look beyond the mirror (and if you thought that was hard - faggataboudit!) Hmmm...i will try to come back to this when I have time to give it more thought.

    Hoping For A Miracle

If you are 2x in serious complications, get it out now. ANY surgery that involves a device that has caused pain and physical trauma 2x in 3 years should be removed immediately. Opinion - but strong opinion - in my opinion, I am not sure how the bands are still allowed. Good luck to you. Keep up your heath! Keep us informed!

    Eating?

If it is in your throat, and you feel really uncomfortable, or "slimy" you tummy is telling you you ate a bit too much, or the wrong thing too soon. Other than that, I burp still...they are not long enough to win awards, but robust and would def get an honorable mention. The burping and stomach noises is a part of why I maned my tummy - "George" was always putting in his two cents. I have learned to listen!

    I Just Chickened Out

Did you cancel your surgery appointment or a doctors appointment? I strongly urge you to call back and reschedule if it is a doctors appointment. You can always change your mind later, or have peace of mind that you followed it to certainty. Either way, consider keeping up doing everything you would need to do pre-op if you are doing it through your insurance, so once you (if you) decide to do it you will be further ahead than if not. Even if you do not have the surgery, how about making sure you walk a little everyday, or stop going to fast food (if you go - I did not), have a salad instead of a carb side - control you portions to the point of not being hungry, and learn (and fight with your head) and make do with that...there is no reason if you do not decide to have the surgery that, with effort you cant drop, say 25 lbs in a year - that is a dress size. If you maintain it, more will come off. You are going to be making compromises, taking risks, feeling bad, and such wether you have the surgery or not...the surgery is a major effort - the lifestlye begins after the pounds stop dropping off... If you want to message me, or skype, maybe we can go through some of what you read and where, and see what the sources for the information are. It was hard. I was scared. I put it off for almost 10 years. I actually waited until they found a tumor in my stomach and would have had to have almost 2/3rds of it removed as is before I decided on the sleeve. You are not chickening out, you are listening to yourself and honestly if you are not ready it is best not to..I wish I had been ready years ago, however....the longer I go in my new body, the more I mourn the missed time doing the things I can do now/again. PS - this surgery is not new - the procedure is very similar to what would be done for cancer, tumors, some ulcers - physical trauma cases such as shootings, war, accidents. http://asmbs.org/ I suggest you review this site thoroughly
  12. May I ask you for some of the terms she used? Alot of psc(fffttt -whatevers)ists are extremely negative in my opinion do not do so purposefully, but they do and the hurt is there... thing is we all have negative traits...and she was probably trying to stress the negatives associated with this surgery. hers is an art, but it does not mean she is a master - lets hope she is a Monet - it seems like a big ol mess while you are up close to it, but will mellow and be something else as you eval what she said. Blessed Be. (((HUGGS)))
  13. No experience with health care providers for this - except to urge you to treat it as any other important business transaction - get the name, phone number & email of who you are dealing with on the insurance side and a CC for when they are unavalable, the contact name and number & email of who is on your docs side. Email them all reminding them, not asking them, that you need to be included in all correspondence, and all documents are to be scaned and emailed and if not you and the recieving party of the fax are to emailed, with a scan of the fax confirmation if necessary...follow up on all guidelines, and have your policy with you and very, very, very familiar - also check and see if this will change after the new year and if any of it is directed at WLS. mailed documents should go UPS or Fed Ex for tracebility...request direct signature each time. Start saving now, if you havent, for the out of pocket extras....and don't go worrying too hard about the protien drinks, don't buy a tub at first! get a few pre-made and go from there. Good luck.
  14. So what now that I have reached one whole size goal, went into maintenance and decided to lose some more? I have become a nerd. It is true. I have entered the ranks of geekdom - but I am a proud spaz! I embrace it wholly. With that said, I wanted to take a moment and urge everyone to get out there and start doing the things you left behind - it was, to me, a most important thing. It reminded me of why this was all so important in the first place. Every Sunday, I dress up like a mideval warrior of some vague "Mordor"ish kind, and get out in a park in the middle of Houston and fight with foam-padded swords...and I do it for hours. I fight, I am good actually - I am getting faster and I am accurate and a "well earned kill" (or so I have been told). People frequently seem very suprised to get up close and realize I am a middle aged woman. If I tell them about the weight loss, they just seem stunned. I run and fall and jump and waive these swords around. I get bruised and out of breath and I love it, and it gets dark before we realize the day is done. I had not been able to do that in 15 years. I am a LARP geek, and I am proud! What is your most missed? Please, share! Get out there! if not now when?

    Is This Okay?

If you need to produce vitamind D you need sleep and sun, vitamins alone will not help. You body cannot use vitamin d directly from "source" it has to convert it.
  17. I have to walk into a meeting right now...I will look into it and see what I can find. Did they mention any medical terms you can think of, or if they said you had ripped or loosened any tissue? Is your liver or pancreas involved in any way? Also, have you got a second opinion? How did they come up with this diagnosis?
  18. Pookeyism

    Is This Okay?

Yes you are - and remeber there are gummy vitamins, liquid vitamins, and there are shakes that have all of your nutrients built in, like Chike.
  19. I have only lost about 70 post op. But I went from a size 26-24 to a size 14. Body types and experiences vary. Don't push yourself. The important thing is you hav a tool to not just lose but MAINTAIN what you lose. If you only lose 3 lbs a month, you will have lost an additional 36 lbs in a year, and keep it off... Good luck, I think you are doing well.

Having A Hard Time After Surgery

    I Have f**king Had It!

Thats only a week ago, give it some time. You should probably not be eating food yet anyway. If it is OK with the doc, try some children's liquid tylenol, see if it takes the edge off. Some people stay very raw and irritated for awhile. Is your Water source from tap? You may want to try different water sources and even different temperatures...sometimes cold helped, and sometimes warmth was the answer. It varies. Hope it is better soon.
  22. Congradulations to you! Size 6 is tiny! So for me: Surgery went ok. My Mom died a week later. She did not know I had the surgery. I flew home, cried and barely drank anything much less eat. Flew home because I was very, very ill. Complications set in on the fight home. They persisted for weeks and were more serious than I even admitted here. Slowly healed, mentally between my Mom (which would be enough) and the fact that I can't seem to "see" my size (I have been asked to point my body size out, and I select people size 18-20 ish) it has been a struggle but I get through, and I do so much more than that, it is not just a dicotomy, it is my most epic time yet. As Billy would have said "this is my time on the edge". Back into biking, yoga, acro-yoga, swordsmanship, LARPing, Swimming, Archery, contact juggling, devil sticks, climbing trees, spelunking - and seeing the look on one of my best friends face as she handed me a tshirt from her vacation "medium" it said on the collar - and it fit. Nine months, wow, I wonder what it will be like this time next year...

    Afraid To Eat :)

You need to feel out your tummy slowly - may I suggest some canned roast beef like what you use as sandwich spread? or a salmon paste, or liver pate? If you are eager to eat, which is understandable it is a big step, consider a bisque of boiled lobster, with no thickeners other than veggies...boil the lobster, drain, cook the veggies (carrot, turnip, blue potaoes, some even like apples) in about 2 cups of the lobster water, reduce a bit, just a little heavy cream, maybe some collagean or gelatin, and puree it all very well...then season to taste and you can even add unjury unflavored once it has cooled down past 130 degrees. When I was having some serious issues (no leaks but inflammation and crying and such tossing my tummy aroung horribly - reference my profile) this was like mana from the gods!

    Help

Go get a tshirt snug enough to be too tight but not impossible to put on or pop the seams and "stretch" it - get a pair of jogging shorts or similar just the same, and try them on. Now fold the up neatly, and put them away for two weeks. Eat well, protiens first. Do not "goo" your food and avoid the carbs that are in fatty and processed foods. Take a multi Vitamin and a b vitamin. Smile alot, because you got this! sleep - go to sleep the same time each night, and wake up the same time each morning. If you cannot sleep now it the time to address it because sleep is a major factor in many stalls, or at least that is what ALOT of reports are pointing to (yahoo or google "sleep, weight loss - etc). Now, a crazy thing is going to happen if you are drinking all your Water, taking your Vitamins, making you choices count nuritionally speaking - you are going to shrink...even if tat scale moves no at all, or goes slowly, you weight is going to come off. We retain much more than fat, and a complex amount of things go into how our bodies handle this, but you will get smaller. I dropped a whole size once, with 4lbs total loss. 2 weeks later I dropped almost 10 lbs, but other than TOM water bloat and loss, I had nothing signifignt happen size-wise. Now, try on that tshirt and pants....ah-ha! You will lose. I promise.
