Can You Fly For 10 Hours 4 Days After Surgery?
Pookeyism replied to bakawaka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It would make my arms too tired... Seriously on a business trip noooo....and hell nooooo.... First off, if you can't make it that looks poorly on you, the expense would be excessive, and stress and flying after just don't add up...also - if you have a complication and then are stuck away from home that would not be good at all. Alot of people do fine, alot of people would be fine...I am the stick in the mud that is going to say "and if it don't"... -
I would write a letter of complaint to your psych and ask her how she came about that evaluation. Remind her of the progression of your conversation, adn a copy of her notes, as you are getting a second opinion. Doctors should be held accountable, and until you do, it will persist on to the next patient, and the next, etc...

Need Advice From Post Op Sleevers
Pookeyism replied to Lollyx3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
See what you can do to move the surgery up, or the start date of your new job back - or be sure you are able to handle the consequences, up to and including losing the job. Good luck! -
If it affects your eating that much, get away at lunch. Go for a walk or take your phone or laptop out somewhere and forget about food. What will you do when you return to work? Plan for that too.

I have had a salad about 3 months ago - so about 6 months out...it did not like my tummy and I was uncomfortable until it passed.

Asthma And Anesthesia
Pookeyism replied to NisaletOAM's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is not directly related but I did - if you have Asthma talk to your anest. and let them know. They will want to know every single one of your meds, and when you need your rescue inhailor. I can stress to you, confidently and thoroughly so, that any additional weight you can shed before the surgery will be to your benefit. -
Guess Where I'm Writing From?
Pookeyism replied to Frza's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So very happy for you! Such a good feeling! -
I did not increase my calories substantially in maintenance. I really did not change much at all. I allow myself more carbs through veggies and grain, to be able to keep my energy level up better. I would have to make some bad food choices to be able to load up 1500 calories in a day. With maintenance, I would seriously suggest you only increase it in the smallest increments, and monitor you weight and how your clothes fit. It can take a few weeks for the calories to disagree with you.

Im Down Too A Size 14 Was A 22...just One Question... Soda
Pookeyism replied to angelofmercy36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not had a soda in almost (over?) a year now. I began to wean off them before I knew I would have the surgery, they just seem to trigger a need for sweets and such. -

When Did You Feel Yourself?
Pookeyism replied to healthiermom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can look at my profile to get an idea of what i am talking about, but I had complications, but without the upset and such I think I could have returned 2 weeks out. -
"airing" On The Side Of Caution....
Pookeyism replied to cmaloney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Small bites, spaced out, and watch your posture, too PS - avoid mixing your liquids with your food. PPS - I burped sooo much for several months, and still do to an extent... -
I would avoid deserts totaly. Carbs are bad for your tummy, and will impede your weight loss. They are also, for many, a large part of the old habits and problems... ...dessert is, how I have grown to look at it, another word for a part of a meal that I don't need, and daily decide "do I want this as much as I want my health" Seven weeks out, it SHOULD (i empasize that because it is not my opinion it a fact given the limit ability you have to nurish your body at this time) be protien first, protien second, protien third...then veggies.

at 12 days out - given I am not sure what your doctor told you was ok - I would not be eating much meat. I "felt" my way up to determining an amout of food that wa oK to eat - and still listen to my stomach more than rely on a measurement...I also still time myself. Small times bites are very important. I think the stretching people worry about, from what I have read, is a learned response within your stomach just as much as any true stretching, and is determined by your eating habits. So slow, extremely well chewd bites. If you are transitioning to solid food, try just a few small bites at a time...very small, baby spoon bites...and "feel" it out. Don't wait for full, you just had your tummy cut out! your "second brain" has just had many, many nerves and blood vessels short circuted. Give it just enough to begin to work again. Just enough to provide a little nurishment, several times a day. Good luck.

2 1/2 Months Out, Haven't Lost But Haven't Gained
Pookeyism replied to Brandy W's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stalls are common, there is alot more going on than just weight loss, and a lot more that can be retained other than fat. Drink your Water in any way you can - Jello, popcicles, flavored water. Get a protien drink that does not require milk and is lactose free - unjury is a good choice in my opinion, or look for a grocery store that carries Mootopia (HEP and Central Market does here) it is a 1/2 sugars, lactose free, protien enriched milk. Get in some form of exercize daily - see if you can't find something you enjoy, if you don't like the gym. sleep - on a regular schedule, it is more inportant to this process than alot of people realize...people with irregular sleep patterns, sleep disorders, etc. are more likely to be overweight, less likely yo lose, and much less likely to keep it off. Get a tshirt that is tight, and try it on, and put it away for a couple of weeks, and then try it back on. even if you do not lose it will fit better - you lose inches even when you do not lose pounds. -
Please Help Me, I Think I'm The Only One That Has Failed This Surgery
Pookeyism replied to loveit1222's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get on my fitnes pal.com Keep a food log. religiously so. as if your weight loss depended on it walk daily - regardless of what else you are doing, even if for only 15 minutes. No carbs. start back out on your liquids for a few days, and build back up to puree...and again, no carbs. Here is where only you know if it pertains to you: you mentioned chips and such so it leaves the impression on me that you are experementing with foods, and are possibly eating much more than you realize. If you are, and you recognize it then acknowledge it and find your trigger, get away from your need to feed - this new tummy is only a tool and you can and will find a way around if if you want to. Read the Power of Habit by Dughill if yo have time at all - once to read, twice to comprehend, and take notes...it helps soooo much. Understanding the brain is as important as understanding the body. If you can get from missing your food to enjoying the amazement of how little it takes to sustain us now, you will enjoy your journey so much more - I know I did. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. -
I would measure it out more like 2 oz 15 min or so, if you can stand that...and note pain and discomfort, BUT it may not develop for hours - remember these nerves are healing, so pain can register long after, or after doing something that once would not have bothered you too much, but doing too often will create soreness, or inflammation - ie pain.

Stabbing/burning Pain
Pookeyism replied to nicole836's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is it hot? has it begun to drain? Change color? Mine hurt for awhile on that side, and it would come and go a bit...I think mine was from where that is the larget hole they make, it is where the stomach is removed from, and also they tacked my stitch up a bit high. -
Be prepared to be a participant in this meeting. Speak up, speak out, ask questions, expect solid answers. Take notes, ask for literature. If you have a question as your doc is takling - jot down a quick reminder of what went through your mind. The doc should not mind. Perhaps he would let you record the conversation, or do so anyway. That way you can refer back to it. Use this to get the feel of if you are comfortable with this doctor. let us know how it goes!

Two Days Until Surgery
Pookeyism replied to ecannizz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have ever had a reaction while under, take the next day or so to get the information about what you were given, etc. to pass on to your current anest. Other than that, breathe deep, and just let it go. It really is all that matters - be calm, one foot at a time. God bless. -

VerticalSleeveTalk Newsletter 10/05/2012
Pookeyism replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
yay Sleeve4me! Good tips on the before hand food prep - I did that anyway, mostly out of habit to feed and treat my bunnies, and as I began my final weight loss, I realized how helpful it was for me, too. -

Wow - they paid 71k for your surgery? or was that before adjustments? that should be reported - no offense but that is one of the reasons it is so hard to get approved...you could have had almost 5 people sleeved here for that amount. that is...shady However, glad you are sleeved!
