Going Broke Buying New Clothes!
Pookeyism replied to kyllfalcon's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Do consider a tailor, and I suggest consignment shops. When you buy, I recommend you avoid asymetrical clothing, or clothing that has the bias in it in a very specific way - buy wool blends, cottons, etc.and in solid colors that will allow for easier tailoring when those clothes become too large. -
Lap Band To Sleeve
Pookeyism replied to lap band laura's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This sounds good - and you may even lose st a lesser rate - but it is OK. The surgery is not to make you lose a crazy amount quick - it is to give you the ability to lose, but then create a "new" life with different habits...this is much different than the lapband, too. -
Has Anyone Who Was Revised From Band To Sleeve Not Been Successful?
Pookeyism replied to soocalchic's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The desensitized esopagus is something I am not wholy familiar with, but if you measure your food, "here it is, this much, on a plate, and that.is.it." then it will not matter. Your triggers for fullness are not in your throat, they are on the left side of the great or lower stomach, so measuring should help. However, from what I do understand about habits and triggers and how they can mesh with sensation from the body, so if you do have a condition that you have habitually ate till you felt it in your throat, you have an additional issue to conquer. I think with understanding it and discussing it with your Surgeon, nut and very possibly an eye, ear and nose doc you could make it easier on yourself. Please keep us informed and let us know how it progresses. -
New Member,8 Month Post Op!
Pookeyism replied to Kevin W.'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This forum is an excellent place to be. Very helpful and inspiring... Please take a minute or ten and share some of your experiences with us...seasoned sleevers are an important tools for the newbies...and the newbies help remind us to stay motivated We use a term here - NSV "Non-scale Victory"...would love to hear about some of yours. it's anything not scale related that was a goal or a "win" or an unexpected benefit... Great progress and keep it up! -
Do you mean not tell anyone, not a soul? Very bad idea if you are EVER traveling to do things that no one knows how to reach you, or where to look if you do not come home. I have dealt with international issues on more than one occasion. You need to have everything in order if you are telling no one - and I dont mean to be a bummer but I mean everything from your will to directive to beneficiaries, righ down to small things like Water your plants. I know it sounds extreme but I took the extra step - even though I had plenty of support and had my surgery on Houston, where I live...I would come to need some of those plans and a few of those people who had been asked and also made plans in their schedules to be available enough to be able to help me if needed - a week later when my Mom passed away and I had to fly home unexpectedly and was home for 2 weeks, then on top of that the stress and grief and travel took a toll and I really, truly, truly needed that support.

Did Anyones Surgery Effect Your Menstrul Cycle?
Pookeyism replied to SleeveShelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not until recently, I had one 8/21 then 9/7...but then it hit like clockwork on 10/5 - the "new" schedule. So at a little after 8 months out - but I am also coming up on my 39th birthday so that could have something to do with it too. I was always very regular, with the exception of several years ago, when I was at my very heaviest. -
Frustrating Set Back
Pookeyism replied to taralynneRN59's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Would they be willing to tentatively schedule your surgery into the second week in Nov? If you have no prior history of serious problems, a heart issue should not really negate this surgery, since it would be in your best interest to lose the weight if you have a heart condition. My Surgery date was scheduled ahead of tests. Consider talking to your bariatric surgeon again and see if he has a relationship with the hospital that would allow him to do that. -

For 3+$ a serving, you could get a really good quality blender and make your own combos and add unflavored protien to them. unjury unflavored protien makes a good shake...I mix it with green juice and bee pollen and cantalaupe, butternut squash, even skinny cow and milk...and more

Family Thanksgiving Dinner
Pookeyism replied to stokesmommy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This will be my first holidays too and all I can say is I am staying out of the kitchen. We have a big meal, especially now that we decided to get a house, and what was already large gatherings have become huge...we have no family in Houston, and with work it is too hard to travel, and my family is dispersed now that my Mom passed away. Last year we had almost 30 people, and two couples (not to mention friends kids to come with) did not show - so I am just going to leave the kitchen to my Hubby and "us girls" as he refers to himself and his foodie crew, and I am going to run errands - we will also be outside afterwards - NO ball game or accompanying snacking...it's plague ball all afternoon, baby!!!! (imagine football for zombies) -
My One Year Anniversary!
Pookeyism replied to zoelifechick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am so happy for you. I am really shocked it has been 9 months for me, and what a difference it can make. I think of where I would be right now if I had not had the surgery and it is actually scary to me... -
Need Breakfast Ideas...?
Pookeyism replied to Donedeal091212's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't care for breakfast foods in the morning, actually I dont care for food at all in the morning, BUT if I have my druthers, it would a slice of smoked, unsalted ham - or hummus and feta cheese - or some olives. I DO get in nutrition, but generally it is from a protien shake. -
Stop regretting the food. start celebrating what you have - you arent missing anything you stood a good chance of missing because you were ill, or dead. It is a hard road, but you dont deal with it like grief or loss, you have to come at it at an angle to understand (not trick, coerce, etc) understand that you now eat to live, not live to eat.

I would be more concerned about how the poles are supported, they should hold. research the proper way to install one, so that you can go inspect them in advance - no gym should ever mind demonstating the equipment. I was playing around in a friends club this summer and found the loose skin to be, er, catchy...maybe neoprene leggins or such...

Once You Got To Goal...
Pookeyism replied to mylifeinpink's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went on maintenance at size 14 and honestly could have been very Ok with that, forever -but I know we tend to gain some back eventually so I decided to get to a smaller size so that if/when that happens I would be at a size I knew I had been OK with, and my body was ok with, so that once I "catch" this happening I will (in hypothesis) be felling Ok still and can amp up my routine, or cut back as needed. Other factors are that I am still concerned with my knee, and afraid a size 14 will not be enough to keep my type 2 diabetes in remisson. I was diagnosed in full blown remission late Feb/early March. Looks wise, I do think it would be cool to be a bit leaner, or at least see myself at the size I am at, which I have trouble doing. -
30 Somethings - Loose Skin After Wls?
Pookeyism replied to bkz3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You will have some left over but the amount really depends on several factors, all of which you should really do anyway: Lose in moderation, several to 1-2 lbs a week depending on your size. Firm and tone...a small routine you can stick to everyday - everyday. This is not the exercize - the treadmill or running or hard core cardio.this is 5-10 minutes of light weights, stretching or yoga, etc...this is what you do everyday to keep your body responding to the changes, to make sure your nutrients and protien go where they need to...this is your good morning kiss to your new body! Water - plain water, choke it down. Stress - get away from it, you produce cortozol, among other things, which affect where you lose your weight and how your facia and dermis react to these changes. Foods - the type of foods will determine this too. Meds - this varies sooo much but get with your doctor and see if you have additional supplemental needs based on what you take. sleep - sleep is so very, very, critical. trans fat - NONONONONONONONOONONO! it is shownin studies to prematurely age us, diminish brain functions, and make us more susceptible to injury and illness...that includes the saggy skin! Hope this helps -
I julianne carrots, or zuchinni. Different types of mushrooms, and spaghetti squash all make for excellent replacements. I just avoid grain based carbs in general now, I have went so long without them I don't miss them.

Panicking! Has Anyone Had This Issue?
Pookeyism replied to Aimstergal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told an elevated white blood cell count would be the only thing that would really throw my surgery, infection wise. I am not sure if that helps... Let us know what your doc says! BUT I had to have at least a portion of my surger no matter what...I was having a tumor removed also.
