Anyone out there who got sleeved more than 5 years ago?
Pookeyism replied to LynnD's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am only 14 months out, sorry - but feel free to ask away if you have questions. the questions you ask may be accessable through other research - remember this surgery is done for many, many reasons (I myself did not finally agree to the surgery until they found a tumor in my stomach). -

Try and back up and understand what old habit/trigger got in the eay of the new. Its the only way to figure out the head hunger. Forgive yourself, and be accepting of what you are doing, so you can destress and come back into the healthy eating. Eat as much as you want, but make it healthy foods. Acknowledge you stayed within your goal for the day. get the sugars and fats and processed food "baddatives" that make you crave out of your system with lots of Water. Be ok with what happened, and let it go. If you need to, literally take a walk and "drop" your negative feelings twords this along the way, and as you walk into your home, see you new resolution sitting at door door, visualize it like a big gift, pick it up. Its yours! You got this! Good luck!

Eating "Normal" 10 months post op
Pookeyism replied to O.T.R. sleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Did you drink with that meal? -
Keeping hydrated is no small task, you have to work on it alot. You will feel less tired when you work out if you are properly hydrated. You body needs Water to do everything, it needs alot of water to shed the pounds optimally. I don't just mean for the most weight loss, but for it to pass easily from your system, too. Drink, drink, drink! lol

Can't Eat! Three weeks post op
Pookeyism replied to Heidie88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not everyone is going to progress at the same rate. Eat what you can. since you are having trouble, focus on your protiens first. Spinach in cans, pureed with a little lemon is a good alternative to the grains and meats, if you aren't tolerateing them well. If you can do nothing else, find a good raw juice bar (not smoothie hut or java whatever) and get some juices. Good luck! -
I don't have my most recent pics here, but overall my size has not really changed, but I am more defined. Noticeably larger are my back, neck and shoulders - more muscular, and my biceps.

I got a serious stress fracture in my foot and shin, it wiped out my attempt at the zombie 5k. But amped up my yoga, I can do crow and headstand now...

Challenge: 1st Day of Summer Weigh-In
Pookeyism replied to Ima Loser's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have a set goal, since I am currently jacking up my yoga practice quite a bit, and a few other things too. I will weigh myself before I leave work. I am in! -
$6000 Mommy Make Over in TJ, I have plans already!
Pookeyism replied to judy79's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I need alot of skin gone, if I ever do it. My abs are OK, sprisingly enough (I can now do a headstand from a standing position). Doc said "no need for ab reconstruction!". If i ever do it, it looks scary - both in time and work lost, but the amount of time recouping seems formidable. Please keep us posted, and good luck!!! PS - I should probably include I have never had a child. -

Pookeyism replied to chitowngirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tell em' if you walk acreoss stage, you get gifts! Some one else covers your robe and hat, too!!!! -
That is not a time-set thing. When/if depends on your A1c. Do remember, if you go back to a high carb lifestyle, your A1c can go back up. I have been in remission for a year, but I test every other morning, and a few other random times a week, and I a1c every 3 months.

I Can Run! Can You?
Pookeyism replied to deedeemuffin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am sufficiently able to avoid zombies, I can say with confidence. Be forewarned, however, the right footware is really important. I learned that the hard way (stress fracture). I am also taking a cue from a friend who was never overweight, but never really ran, who did some damage to her knees. they said with two 10$ knitted knee supports it probably would have never happened. But - DAGGONE! Yay for you. The running is no suprize after the wheelbarrel! lol -
Orange slices, strawberries and apples slices. Or did. Drinking fruit water now. I have yoga at 6:30 so it is lite eats until after, and then I will have some fruit, veggies...I don't eat alot of meat anymore.

Keeping surgery MY secret
Pookeyism replied to CarolinaGurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a question like that arise, and I basically spent 100$ out of pocket, and consulted another doctor outside of my medical group and said "would you really have needed to know that?". The answer I got was "if for any reason we had to go into your stomach, to revive, remove blockage, ANYTHING, we could have killed you without that information". I don't know, it is something to think strongly about. -
I would suggest you wait and order your dress closer to the event. You can then order it at/just below what size you are, and order that size, after confirming with at great seamstress that she can size it down ahead of the event. PS - for you, it may be a good idea to take lots of pics at different angles and measurements, that way as the time to get the dress you can also get an idea of not just how may pounds you are dropping, but where it is dropping from. It could be important for the dress (and I assume you thoroughly plan to rock this dress!).

Stick it out if you can. You will be making and reinforcing new habits for a very, very long time now. Remind yourself this is not permanent, allow yourself to accept the discomfort and try to be OK with a decision that is not the most pleasant, but the best for you. The little "gives" here and there have actully been big stumbles in hindsight (for me). It is worth it.

Divorce and split ups
Pookeyism replied to bwatts13's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
90% does sound unrealistic, but it depends on who is doing th math, or passing on info, which is what most stuff is anymore. http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/cats/births_deaths_marriages_divorces/marriages_and_divorces.html That is a link to the census website, and you can assume, that, yes, the percentage is going to go up after WLS. It isn't the negative thing it sounds like. If you take divorce percentages from any group and add "major life event" the stats for divorce go up. -
Anyone make their own soup?
Pookeyism replied to JessicaAnn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also consider a juicer. you can juice your veggies and fruit, and add vitamin water. its more like playing with your food really. Get on line for some good recipies. -
The muscle is not what is unhealthy and contributes to problems, or is stored in big deposits. A gain of muscle is distributed evenly, or a bit more specific if you are, say, working out specific groups as opposed to general activity. Go get a tshirt that fits too tight, try it on abotu once a week or so. The tshirt does not lie! Don't be too concerned with weight. You got this now! Give it time, learn your habits, find something active you enjoy. Good luck.

May I ask what kind it was?

Do you fear "re-fatting"?
Pookeyism replied to Strangefruit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. I am just focusing on more veggies and fruits, and less animal protien. I know, I know - but no. A year later I am living a near-vegan lifestyle and I am fine without tons of animal protien. Better. Muscle mass is amping up. My pants size is smaller than my shirt size, due to my shoulders and across my chest (not boobs, chest). I have alot of excess skin, but you can see the definition below it now. The muscle counters the calories, and the balanced foods allow my body to use the vegtable protien optimally. -
5 days left b4 i get my surgery
Pookeyism replied to alswifey's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just get your to-do list done ahead of time. Right now, just let each minute happen as you can. realize the fear or anxiety or doubt or elation or figitiness, all this passes and changes from minute to minute. Allow the impermanence of it to create space for you to prepare for the journey that lies ahead of you. Also- be sure to break away from here on occasion. You aren't waiting to live your life, today is a gift too. I wish I had realized that in the month or so coming into the surgery "threshold". -
Leave all valuables at home. extra undies, lol. I know alot of people who take laptops and such but why??? LOl. However, I did not go abroad. Use the search engine here, and focus on posts and replies from people not about what they are packing, but what they realized they really needed. It will be a little work, but it helps. I encourage you to keep a VST.com journal. A real notebook with notes about anything you find interesting, would like to be able to reference or access again. Print them out, maybe - I did and it helped cut the clutter of "I know I read that somewhere". Good luck!
