I just caught the third world 9lbs babies remark - soooo on my soapbox: I am saying this because I think it is really irresponsible if a medical professional to use that to reassure you through your pregnancy. I really, truly, hope you did not continue on with restricted calories as a result. There is a reason why Doctors Without Borders is innodated with need to repair cleft pallets and congenital defects - poor nutrition is one of many things. I am not trying to scare you, but please be very aware that you must eat for this child and not for your weight. fruits and veggies, fruits, and veggies, spinach, kale, eggs, apples, citrus, banannas, fish, nuts and berries - eat your fill, and again, and again. juice them and get your nutrients and Water in at the same time, if you can. Again, good luck. My husband and I avoided actual intercourse for 4 months after, because even thought we are pretty sure we will never concieve without help, we wanted to be sure it did not happen after surgery. I did not say we did not have a fufilling sex life, just no intercourse. It IS an option, especially with our bodies fluctuation so rapidly. I am disappointed it is not stressed more from the doctors. That was more frustrating than missing food, haha! -

If you are holding steady and you are in your third trimester, you have lost weight, because you are accumulating mass. Feed your baby, put nothing in but good healthy foods, and exercize as much as the doctor OK's. You are going through through alot of changes, and adding a baby is compounding it. Can I suggest you get with an OBGYN that has had experience in a situation as near to yours as possible, and try and anticipate what you can expect. I do not want to alarm you but the rubber band effect for you once you give birth could be a really signifigant event. I would not focus on calories at all for at least a few months, you need to just get in nutrition. Your mental health and nutritional needs of your fetus are interconnected at this time - and your baby's development and health of your household will be after. I dont mean to alarm you with this either but a strong sugestion to get with an early development specialist and look into all the congentital issues that are related to pre-conception and first semester nutritional deficiencies and confirm your baby is OK. Good luck. -

I do - but cannot think of a full recipie right now - carrot, onion, ginger (and something), lol. It goes like that! I can give you a tip: leafy greens and "earthy" veggies are often countered with lemon to make them go from "meh" to "wow". Message me if you would like an I can find some - or google "whole food juices" raw juices, etc. Do you have a co-op near you like we do here in Houston? rawfullyorganic.com has some good recipies up (I think). I am a year out and since I have passed from the stage of needing animal protien to heal (which I am a firm advocate of, still), I eat alot of fruits and veggies.

Regarding the concern about complications. In general complications are not too much to worry about, many are preventable, err on the side of caution with suggestions on diet and rest, and be prepared to be able to take extra time after the surgery if you need it. Since you mentioned your sister's complications, I would see if she would volunteer her records that describe the problem, treatment and such and take it to your general doc (not your surgeon) and see what they think of the situation - is this something that could be genetic (making you predisposed). There are small subtle things your doc could notice, that your surgeon might not ( yes I know he is a doctor too - but your general doc proably has more experience with conecting the dots from one condition to another, etc.). If it was not life-treatening, however, a complication is just that - it just makes it more complex. It doesn't generally outweigh (pardon the pun) the reward. Good luck. -

There is a forum for pregnancy on here, and always remeber the search option - a wealth of information to be had that way. Search can be informative because you can see responses from people who may not be on so much, but have answered your question already. -
looking for a gastric sleeve buddy!

very good! maybe you could post a few days of what you ate, or exercized, or your opinion on what droke your stall, alot of dancing at the parties? -
I have a question. I was discussing Yoga with a friend who is not getting WLS, but is in the process of losing weight. I have several times tried to get her into the studio with me, and there is always a reason why she cannot. She does/will exercize alone. Recently she asked me "are you sure I will show up and they will let me in?". I responded that they rarely get so full they turn people away, etc. She corrected me by saying, basically, she meant would they tell her she was too big, or that she did not meet the image they wanted, etc. This broke my heart. I just hurt inside for her as I realized what she meant. It has been bothering me sooo much. I brought it up to the young ladies that own the studio I go to, and I hope to turn this into a positive, really, really soon. In the meantime - have you ever felt that way? I have sometimes - horseriding (but not will they turn me away, but because I know those horses can take me, when they can take a friend of mine who is 6'8 and gear weighs 450 lbs together. I literally felt sorry for the horse - silly yes) or carnivals (used to, yay NSV - but because I actually did not fit). I hav efelt I did not fit in, and yes (but not in yoga) felt judged, for lack of a better word coming to mind. However, I do not think I have ever worried about exercize and being turned away, as in refused to be allowed to participate. I NEED to be able to talk to people who have experienced this and are at a positon that they feel they can really, truly answer some candid questions. I can't ask my friend, I do not want to emphasize that fear to her, or make her feel like I find it odd, or such. It is not, but she is really sensitive right now. All imput is welcome, no matter how random, or critical (of me, NOT of the people who feel this way). Feedback...discuss!
-
You are welcome to look over my profile, or old posts, etc. or ask questions blindly. I just want to offer a chance to ask questions - candid, to the point is ok. If it is really too much I will blush quietly and decline to answer, lol. PS - yes I know how to spell...but I can't correct the topic title...

Got my bloods did.
Pookeyism replied to fyre_storm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They generally discourage males who are pregnant from having the surgery. But on the other hand, once you have the baby and allow People the "first photo" rights, your finances are probably A-Ok to cover all surgery related expenses, and then some.... -
I'm not going to say good or bad to occasionally slip, I have found that (when people will admit it) learning about slider foods, or learning that it seems ok to slip or occasionally induldge is that crack in the closet door - does the boogey man come out or not... Don't be afraid of slipping up, but do be aware of the possibility. Do you have a strategy to not do this? Have you got to the point that you can avoid your cravings? These are really base questions, I know...but - have you? Beyond that, allow the fear, don't push it away - take it in, let it go...analyze it, decide upon it, finalize it - impermanence is a really valuable tool right now. It will save you many, many hours of stress. Good luck.

You are fine, this will happen from time to time. keep your nutrition even, do not dip too low in calories if you can help it. Minimalize carbs. Drink Water, take your Vitamins and sleep is really, really, super really important. Go get a tshirt that is a bit too small, but that you will not bust a seam or rip a surge, and try it on, take it off and put it away. Get it back out every 1-2 weeks and you will see inches go away even when you are not losing pounds.

Too much Hair Loss?
Pookeyism replied to Gettingmylifeback11/2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It did! I keep it short, but it did grow back. -
I had my carbs below 40 then, to be sure, but my overall calories got up to 1000 by the fifth month at least, so for most of you that would be more like the 3rd or early 4th month (I had some complications that made solid food a back and forth thing for me for awhile). For me, and this is just for me - maybe for you - the need to maintain my muscle was really imperative to me. My final size was and still is TBD, but I knew what I wanted out if my body - performance, energy, clear mind, presence in what I was doing - and muscle, muscle, strength, muscle. So I allowed the calories - but I am 5'10" and built in many ways like a man, so I knew I could take it. I will try to find a pic I took in July - my neck was sooo thin, wow...just so weak and frail looking, and now - ha! Not so much now.

Slowed weight loss.
Pookeyism replied to Fariethin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Increase your calories, make sure you are getting in Water, moderate exercize, and take your Vitamins if you are not already. Get enough sleep! My bet is you are eating too few calories & there is a good chance you are still losing inches even if not pounds. Its hard to go through it, no matter how many times people say it is OK. But it is OK, and you are going to be fine! Hugs! -
Just be persistent. You are probably still loosing inches, and building muscle, redefining your interior which helps most of all. Eat nutrient dense food, keep a log to make sure you are taking in what you think you are. Multivitamin, daily! Water, water, water - add citrus if you can, even if just lemon water and a tad of honey. sleep, Sleep, SLEEP, zzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzzzllleeeeeeeppppp - so much more impotrtant than it seems (search "sleep and weigh loss"). T-shirt! get a tshirt that is too tight - tight enough to get on but not rip or blow seams - then take and put it away for a week or two, try it on every so often - you will see progress even when you stall.

donate that hair to "locks of love". You would be better just dealing with the thinning hair for awhile. It should only be temporary. Mine was. keep from using chemicals, perms do not make it look fuller. I went to sportsclips, and got a seasoned hairstylist used to cutting men's hair (short & thinning - get it? lol). It worked. It is now thick enough to grow out, but I have grown fond of spiking it up, lol.
