Tips for dealing with a sore abdomen?
Pookeyism replied to HatheryOnHerWay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That makes sense. The bowels can make things feel very, very bad when they are backed up. That is why I urge peple stay on track with chew, chew, chewing and introducing foods in moderation. In addition to understanding how your tummy will tolerate it, you get an idea of how your bowels will pass it. Hope you continue to feel better! -
By all means take in as much as you safely can. Still be sure to take in measured small amounts and time it, so that your tummy won't retaliate later (remember you may be partially numb and not able to feel yourself overdoing it).

Tips for dealing with a sore abdomen?
Pookeyism replied to HatheryOnHerWay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
are you hurting in a wide area or like you did the first time with your incisions? Also - is your timmy red, veined or hot or hard lumps? These are all symptoms that should be looked at. If you continue to hurt ask for a white blood cell count to rule out a serious infection. -
Greens salads etc...
Pookeyism replied to jmonique78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never eat iceberg or pale greens of any kind - but kale and bok choy and spinach I take with ease now, although it tooks several months to do so. Just be very sparing and cautiously repetitive when adding new foods, try adding them one at a time. It really really, super really helps isolate food issues. -
The emphasis on drinking fluids is a necessity. Consider very gentle stretches and things such as forward folds and side twists and back bends (only if you can guide yourself back slowly). None of this is going to be comfortable if you are constipated but will help guide things through. If you need instructions on the stretches I can find links or explain further.

Are vitamins really necessary post op? Help
Pookeyism replied to jose1973's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I take a gummy Vitamin daily, and at 14 months out I eat all 9 servings of my fruits and veggies, almost every day and have cut back on the animal protien a bit, WOW! Big difference. But don't try it right away, you need all that protien for a really long time. Jucing will help with Vitamins, too. -
Doctor is disappointed
Pookeyism replied to MsBriteEyez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wish you would share the name of your doctor, write a review of your experience online, too. -
Your cycle can definately be affected, as can your fertility. It is easier to accidentally get pregnant, too. That makes for a very scary situation with pre-natal malnutrition. My cycle did vary - more like a reset, in a way - twice. I call it reset cause it reminded me of hitting reset in a game - you go back to where you hit the button at, I would start on say the 1st, then have it early, say the 10th, but from there on out until it changed again it would be a 27-28 day cycle.

If you do not eat alot - did you explore the other reasons you might be overweight? Or - and I hate to be a wet blanket - do you understand that the sleeve will, at least at first and probably from here on out, unless you develop and maintain a really diverse, active lifestyle, you will be able to eat much less - maybe drastically so? I am not trying to scare you but you mentioned that you aren't a big eater - I was not either for all but my heaviest (and still not as much as the 'calculation' for calorie vs. mass maintenance) but my metabolism has fought me my whole life (no thyroid issues, the best explination is it's a genetic haywire, my mom died at 86 lbs, and my sister was underweight until about 2 years ago, when she is now 'average'). I think you can lose, but be ready to have some equanimity for how much you lose. Everyone differs. I was well over a size 28 when I was at my heaviest - well over, and I am in the 14 range now. So am I a success? I feel like I am. Will I lose more? I honestly do not know. With out some skin removal, maybe not, since anything left to lose is all in my midsection now (i am a true apple shape).

Any recommendations for VSG physicians in San Antonio or Austin?
Pookeyism replied to AggieSleever's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Houston has several great doctors, while mine was ok (Dr. Ata Ahmed), there was just too much regarding my follow up care and confuison about pain meds to prevent me from recommending him(he also never followed up on me personally in the hospital). He was very good to me, however, and met with my husband a second time, no charge, to discuss things with thim again, to attempt to ease my Hubby's mind. -
"The Power of Habit" by dughil not a WLS book - much more than that. it is about us, all of us, the parts that define habit, embed action and reaction into our minds. How to break habits, but also how to make new ones and why old one's resurface, and much more. Full of great medical research, very worth the old 3x read.

yup! even just making tea or adding a little lemon can help. I took lemon, squeezed to taste and canteloupe an blended, then strained. really refreshing - you can add spinach juice too. DON'T LAUGH! lol, its very tasty.

It is so odd to fit into some things. I can fit into a vintage dress from the 50's that I have held onto for 20 years, hoping to fit into it one day. That was a trip!

March measurements :)
Pookeyism replied to mariamitani's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is awesome to hear the results fellow sleevers sre getting, thanks for the update. Unfortunately I am a ridiculouly apple shaped, and filling out a little from working out, so I have yet to really pass size 14 (I can pull a size 8 up past my butt), although I have lost over 100 lbs from my largest. It is really encouraging to see everyone experiencing such positive results. -
21 months post op and maintaining quite well ;-)
Pookeyism replied to cutie pie's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Wow. That is great to hear! Go you! I was sleeved 1.4.2012 I have often wondered what the next year will hold for me. I don't know if I can go as low as 150, but maybe 15-20 lbs more, then kind of hold steady and focus on some serious muscles! -
Eye color study! Will/did yours change? Did/will your eyesight improve?
Pookeyism posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Would anyone be interested in participating in a non-clinical study regarding weight loss and eye color? This is not something to hype up Iridology or anything, I promise. I would just ask for you to take a good, clear picture of your left and right eye, answer a few brief questions, and do so every 3-6 months. I am really curious about the phenomenon that seems to be visiting some of us regarding our eye color changing and our vision possibly improving. I noticed it first for me when it was noted by my Husband in the sunlight that the new contacts were subtile but still really interesting. ??? "Contacts, lol, I haven't had to wear glasses in almost a year" He replied that he just assumed they were cosmetic only. So after some back and forth I took a look and I don't know how I missed it but my eyes went from a really uniform clear but deep brown, kind of "lit" with deep amber to a green around the edges, and brown in the middle. Hmmmmm.... Depending on what my informal study produces, I could very well be able to get someone interested in it for a PhD thesis, which could add a new, fresh piece of information to the WLS and long term weight loss (biological) process. I really urge you to participate. I will reward the group who sticks with it at the end with a donation to a weight loss related non-profit, or something along those lines. In order for it to be of any real signifigance I need as many people as possible to participate. The more participation the easier it can be argued on whether or not the subject deserves more detailed and much more time-intensive attention. I have a lot of interest and enthusiasm for this project. I hope you will contribute. Thank you sooo much! -
Welcome to the group. Whatever decision you make, this forum is a really valuable tool. I would suggest you make yourself familiar with the site, and learn to use the content feature, etc. Make a list of information that you want, and use the search engine to find threads. That is the best way to find alot of informaton fast, as it pulls up all topics that include what you searched for. Once you have looked around, read up on some of the info, you can ask more specific questions, since you will be better informed. Or just jump in with questions...either way!

If you only have to do it for a certain amount, perhaps you could supplememnt with fruit? Salad?

Nerve damage near incision site
Pookeyism replied to Bree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your nerves will eventually "figure" it out - but you coould retain some nubness indefinately. My appendix scar is over 30 years old and I still cannot feel the actual incision. -
Vitamins not staying down...
Pookeyism replied to ..................'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went off the suggested vitamins and onto gummies, and viola! No problems. That was pretty early on, too. -
Really hoping for April Fools, or you own a surgeon....

Spicy buffalo pretzels!
Pookeyism replied to aylalinngren1026's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would not eat pretzels period. Most carbs should really be avoided. test driving what carbs your tummy will have and will not is a good way to form some bad habits. If you want spicy, how about a virgin bloody mary, with extra spice or horseradish thrown in? A carrot/ginger/kale/cilantro/cayenne pepper smoohie has a KaRazY kick, and is really nearly addictive. -
Some people mistake what is causing them to run to the bathroom, with small incremental meals this can be the case easily. One thing...if you can look at it, and go "that's a piece of" or "thats the", then that may be a part of the issue. We really need to chew our food thoroughly from now on, for the small particulates but also for the saliva that mixes with it - one reason never touched upon about "the no drinking with meals" rule is that when we drink with our meals, we rely less on saliva, which makes the tummy work harder. Think of your saliva as a pre-digestive venom would be in spiders... Rapid dumping if it persists (i have been told and read, but not really experienced) is a serious issue, as it puts stress on your colon the way acid reflux does to your throat. Your colon is 30 ft long, if your bowels are moving rapidly enough to pass anything through that in an hour, it should be looked into.
