I have not been able to ride a rough carnival ride since surgery - which sucks since I fit in everything now! Were you able to tolerate the rougher rides?

3 months post op with pics
Pookeyism replied to Lawrence Washington's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome. You can see a signifigant difference. If you were to take your physical feelings and symptoms, ailments - how you felt at the time you took each of those photos - how would that progress? On meds in one pic/off now? Couldn't do something in the first pick that you can now? stuff like that.... -
"Hi, my name is George" - says my tummy - did you name your sleeve?
Pookeyism replied to Pookeyism's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I almost named mine Fred, but I have a plant named Fred. I was afraid I would confuse my plant -
You are talking about hyperhidrosis, I think...do you blush also?

I did not have to have a sleep study, partly because we knew I did have an issue but not apnea and it doesn't affect my breathing. I had a history of nearly annual tests. Another reason was I had to have the surgery anyway, so they were able to bypass the sleep study for that too. Not sure why the one surgery would need it and the other not. Don't look at the nut as a negative thing. The counseling, the nut, it is all intended to assist you. You are spending your hard earned money, take advantage of every visit. Add every bit of info offered to your arsenal to be successful. Good luck.

Hair loss is not just experienced with extreme weight loss, but can be worsened by stress, surgery, illness, and possibly anestisia. So there is an almost certain point you will experience it. Everyone focuses on protien, and it is extremely important - but genetics, your home environment, the vitamins you get, rest, the water you drink, it all plays a part. When I started to lose my hair it hit fast, and it was signifigant (but I did have other issues, you can read my profile for more info). I kinda started to panic but I backed away and looked at it from a different angle. This whole hair thing is kinda a "tax" I am paying for being able to lose weight and keep it off. So with that squared away, I went "where can I go and get a haircut from someone who knows how to deal with people losing their hair?" Sports Clips!!! No kidding. Went in talked to someone, wasn't comfy with that person but went to another one and talked to a young lady named Victoria and she has done my hair ever since. Several months ago I even went with her aunt to her first VSG consultation, She is having the surgery in the late fall, after she helps her daughter with her first grandbabies - twins!

I don't eat lettuce at all, but I have salads, when I can. kale, spinach, dandelions, bok choy, celeries, mints, and much more are, in my opinion easier to digest than lettuce. They call lettuce bunny food, but honestly you can get a bunny really sick off of it! When you decide to eat a salad, make the greens a lesser part of the salad at first. make it an opportnity to get in all your veggie/fruit colors, add protien and healthy fats too!!! Don't worry about making too much, it is what EVERYONE should be eating anyway. a couple of anti-salad salad combos: "T-rex munch" Dinosoaur kale, chopped cranberries, dates and walnuts toss in a sauce made from food processed apple with just a touch of mild honey (a touch), and cinnamon. "Tuna awesomeness" you can put this on a bed of spring mix, but you don't have to. a sushi quality tuna fillet cucumber celery masago roe avacado wasabi mayo grated carrot IF you really like it sesamee seeds cut all into strips, cut the fillet against the grain. use wasabe mayo minimally and you can even leave it out if you put wasabi/avacado together and mash - it has to be a really ripe avacado, not firm. toss, enjoy. proportions of the combo are to taste, and how you want to budget the meal - this one costs a little due to the tuna and roe, but my tummy loves it.

20 months out - yoga, bike riding, walking, swimming, swordfighting, gardening, hula-hoops, devil and fairy sticks, body contact juggling, hiking, SUP. I can't say I have a 'do this on this day' routine, except for yoga. I do yoga everyday and often ride my bike and from there I do whatever I can, whenever I can. For me it is just being able to do. I had missed that like a flower would miss the sun. I will get myself into some pretty silly situations now (like yoga on a SUP board in a bayou in Houston, or stuck 20 ft up a tree, or quite literally so far into a local nature preserve we came out the other end and had to call hubby to come get us!!!), just for the hell of it, and it only occurs to me later that I am pretty sore or breathing hard or sweaty - which is awesome.

Are you saying you are eating more than you should, due to being hungry?

I eat no grains or rice...

What made you decide on VSG vs. other surgeries?
Pookeyism replied to Scylla's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I didn't choose it - although I would like to think I would have, eventually. I was diagnosed with a tumor, and I had been to a doctor(s) on and off for a decade and would never be comfortable with the current or upcoming WLS procedure, etc. So finally I had the doctor tell me, you know, it's a tumor, we have to take it out,you gotta do it anyway, so consider getting sleeved at the same time. So I put on my big girl breeches and said no more excuses. It was a thrilling, scary time. -
Welcome! Good to meet you!

9 days post sleeve in Texas.
Pookeyism replied to waterboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a spot that hurt much longer than the others, but it was where the incision was larger to insert the tube that removed my tummy. There is a good chance that is what it is. -
1st approval letter to FINALLY see the surgeon!

very excited for you! Please keep us updated! -
We get that in Yoga. 20 somethings who think they are more, IDK, something than people who don't fit into the cookie cutter image, basically: -well-off or tryin got look like they are not trying to look like it, but are really, really trying -less well off and tryin got look like they are better off not trying to look well off -dressed in lulumon - educated on current topics, which means whatever NBC, CNN, Bloomberg, or the next hippy to the left has told them is going on in the world. - extremely into everyone doing their own thing, and being open to everyone making their own choices, but to be sure of it let's make it a law to do it this way, just in case... On the other hand, there are amazing people who look just the same, and have alot to contribute, you just have to keep an open mind, open ear, and drink lots of Water (thought I'd throw that in since we were talking about exercise).

Just so I understand a bit more, if you don't mind me prying a bit... Does he encourage you right now, as you are eating healthier? Does he try to sabotage your eating? Does he reduce or omit activities you used to to together, or alone, or with the kids, etc...in some way justifying the diet (either his or yours) as a reason to go do? Has he ever dieted before and if so is this how he acted when he did?

This group has been very important to me the whole way through. Congradulations on your decision!

I juice but do it as a part of a almost (80% or better) raw diet. The carb count is increased with juice, but it is not refined sugars, and if you balance your juices with net fibers (remember the carb/fiber = net carb ratio for diabetics) and don't overdo it (it is up to the individual to determine what that means, we are all different. For me when I am really dehydrated, or getting that way and I have not had my calories for the day either, juice allows me to hydrate and get in more nutrients than I otherwise would. www.fullyraw.com check it out also, if you juice and are not going the whole route with a vitamix or blender (a vitamix is just a really powerful blender and honestly I can get the same results with a regular blender with some patience). dont discard your leavings! That is alot of food, ALOT of $$$, and you can make grain free breads, biscuits, dips, and I will eat it raw, too, lol... dog treats, small animal treats, birds will eat it too!!!!

Just order something al a carte, or tell the waiter you need the senior menu, or get some Soup. If someone else is ordering an entree, depending on where you go they have multiple sides they can choose at a lesser amount than al a carte, ask to order that way. You could just chop up some fruit and take with. I do that alot. I eat sushi all the time. A competent chef will be able to deviate away from rice. I get rolls without rice and they wrap them in a thinly sliced cucumber sheet. or order roe on slices of cucumber wrapped in seaweed.

Do you put the unflavored protein powder in broth before or after heating?
Pookeyism replied to vsginkc's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Most protien powders should not be heated past 130 degrees. It will denature the protien, which will cause it to clump, but also will effect the enzymes and amino acids. It is like the egg white while cooking eggs, but it will not be as effective to digest (much like the more you heat an egg the less nutritious it becomes). -
Calling all sleevers with desk jobs....
Pookeyism replied to hopeliveshere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say, honestly, if you can take 3-4 weeks off and can maybe budget some money in beforehand to lessen the hit of the cut in pay, do so. What we can do, physically, at certain time, does not reflect the cost we may pay later. You will be mega stressed going into the surgery date, then possibly in pain, possibly not do so well, possibly just need to get back into your skin before you jump back into the world. Take the extra week. heal. walk. read, sleep. Thing is, there is a gap in 'acceptable' and and 'optimal' for how to treat your body when it needs to heal. I dislike the near-myth status it has gained that just everyone, cut out your stomach, fill your body to overflowing with gas, and go about your regular stressful routine as fast as you can. If you have to, if it is that or nothing, then honestly roll the dice in my opinion. I was the walking dead before my surgery, so I would do it again even with the complications I had. No offense to anyone, but almost everyone I know that has jumped in quick has felt it.Yes, I did too. I did not go back to work (my Mom passed away the day before I was due to go back to work, a week after my surgery) but I had to deal with the real world all to soon, which led to some complications that I fell very certain more rest and such would have at least minimalized. Not trying to be a pooper, really! -
how did you choose your implant size?
Pookeyism replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I spoke to a sleever from 09' and she is getting a lift done that will move the last bit of fat left from her underarms to fill the outer cup line, and apparently is going to have a B cup with just a lift. I think at this time I would be OK with an A. I have had big boobs all my life, no matter what size I was and they never gave me anything but a collar bone/backache, lol. -
This is why constructive, factual reporting of when a doctor or his staff has done something noteworthy. either good or bad. I would wait to see how long it takes them to finally take care of things. Keep a notebook of every call, who told you what, etc. I think afterwards if you would post something like "review of dr. soandso" and tag his name, city, center of excellence, etc. it could be beneficial to others trying to make decisions. ALSO - email them- the staff and doctor if you have both emails, and tell them to include you in all correspondence with the insurance, and provide fax reciepts, etc. I hope it works out for you!

caffine in he morning , evening, I bathe in it... well, not bathe in it... This I am no longer even trying to omit. Probably not alot of help there. I DID get back into it slowly. Probably about 2 months. Remember - caffiene stimulates your stomach muscles, so you are much more likely to gurgle, burp and that odd "gnnnnngghhhhhhhhhh" thing too.

What do you think about straws
Pookeyism replied to angry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I avoided straws for a really long time, but they crept back in somewhere along the line, probably since the new year. I tend to forget the smaller details >.< So far, I cannot tell any difference.
