Junk Food Advertising or The Bane of My Existence
Julie norton replied to The Candidate's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think advertising is unfortunately very good at what they do.... pizza. Doorbells...dog barks... Gooey Hamburgers...baby crying...all kinds of distractions!! (Calgon take me away) It is almost food porn isn't it? And nothing to counterbalance the junk...like above poster mentioned. I try to DVR most shows...I'm also very big on the mute button... Feel sorry for innocent young ones that are getting drilled w/ unhealthy Garbage ... Sigh... Ok I'll stop my tirade now thank you -

Pick and Stick-A post op eating strategy
Julie norton replied to WL WARRIOR's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I recently read an article that showed successful, long term losers of extra weight ate many of the same foods for their meals. One wrote of regular patterns of food. She happened to eat tuna ...a lot...for her lunches. She was many years out from surgery and was healthy and kept off almost all her loss. Her point seemed to be about less choices as noted above. I do not have the article at hand...or I would pass the title along. I liked the message though, and I do find my arsenal stays close to the same choices... For years... Wondering about other tong termers and their choices... Or lack of?? -
What great replies on a an important long-term question. The answers varied a bit, but most seemed to indicate staying away from most sugars. I'm almost embarrassingly weak to admit I have to not bring sugary items Into the house. It is just a way of shopping and living for me. Quest bars are as sweet a treat as I can take in the pantry. I just have moments of weakness and many years into this reeducation.... I find that is the best solution for me personally. It helps I live alone with my cats...yikes...I sound old!!!

If for no other reason, This is as good as any
Julie norton replied to Cunninglinguist's topic in The Lounge
Maybe not 1/2 the calories, but 1/2 the responses for the name lameness. And then a few less for acting surprised many of us don't find it "darling" ....or unintentional... Just me saying it is fairly classless -

Catching it early
Julie norton replied to farmgirl04's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It is difficult to cope with pain and loss without the coping mechanism we have used for many years. I was 59 last year and was suddenly widowed... Without my band, I could have tried to cope in many unhealthy ways. After the intense pain, and the fog lifted a bit, I was just trying to get thru the day.... Without abusing anything. I'm Thankful for friends and this board. Others have often been where we are and their experience helps when it feels hopeless. Keep posting and keep trying to have good days run together. ????please know others care PS. A good therapist is a great tool to have! -
Bandista is a positive poster and has great advice. Hoping these boards help with daily And long term advice⭐️

Julie norton replied to rainnie1976's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Ya... As a veteran. Many years out.. This is one of my most difficult daily routines I have to work on and remind myself. I try to never sit down without a full water bottle next to me Why is this so challenging? -

Despicable thoughts
Julie norton replied to WL WARRIOR's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Good posts... I don't notice others too often. I felt judged at an xxl size and usually go about my business in my own head. USUALLY... I must add I was tempted to take a photo of an extremely huge woman wearing very low neon green and black super tight pants with a very short cropped top.... And lots of flesh really overflowing... And many folds exposed. I just thought of how she viewed herself. Perhaps she thought she looked good? I never had the gumption to wear exposed skin except at the beach...part of me admired her for her strength...truly! The world can be cruel to the obese and I need to be not part of that. I shall work on my lessons for being a better human. -
Before or after Cancun Vacation ?
Julie norton replied to hawkeyJeff's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sadly you may not get your money's worth at the all inclusive resort... The booze may be a different reaction than before. A LOT LESS Gonna guess you are NOT gonna stuff yourself at buffets either. Water sports can be fun if the doc gives the ok for ocean / pool/ hot tubbing ....maybe check their rules if you want a pain and infection free time.. DO have FUN????!! -

Stomachache after Whey Protein?
Julie norton replied to remzel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please don't feel you are alone getting stomach aches from protein. I have read many posts about drinking protein and hurting so I asked my Dr. He said your stomach detects protein and sends out more stomach acid to digest it. But since there is no dense protein to digest ....it stays there and it can hurt. Since I heard that, I try to have a little something light before I eat a bar or especially before I have a protein shake. It might be worth a try. Good luck and keep posting.???? -
Mayo in your tuna salad or egg salad?
Julie norton replied to Karlnjax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes tastes change in the long haul. I used to like mayo, but now it does not like me much. Really unclear why, but with every year post op, things change some? Avocado agrees with me, so that can be a substitute for some. Others mention cottage cheese or yogurt for alternatives. We all keep adapting... If we didn't, we would not be successful IMHO -
I just say" I work out a lot and eat good". Or " I try hard". Those seem to be enough words to satisfy most. To closer friends I haven't seen in many years I say quietly " I had a lot of help". That opens the door just enough if we need to chat more later About personal things. It's really a different decision for everybody it seems.

Where did my hunger go?
Julie norton replied to wannaBthinsoon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
babbs, That could have been written by me. Some days I forget to eat till I get a headache or some reminder. Other days I feel hungry a short while after I've had a decent meal. I'm always trying to push Water also???? Still learning even years out. I would not trade this life for anything. Life is difficult enough without the burden of many many pounds! -
Let's talk about sushi
Julie norton replied to T.Whitaker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also like sushi, but the seaweed gets me every time... Same with apple or other skin like texture. Oh the things we learn as life goes on
