Low BMI slow losing encouragement welcome!
Julie norton replied to itstimealready's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also started with a low bmi... It may be slower , but in the long run steadier! Have faith in the process and do what your body and the program dictate. One difference I hope you will see is in the long run, those pounds do not return. A giant change from life before WLS!! I am holding steady at 25 bmi for almost 9 years. A true life changing experience .... No more head trips about diets and size and body image. I will share that I am compliant on protein and exercise and try hard on water.... Daily. It helps in my opinion to have a mindset that you want to change your life.... And will work on yourself very often... And do what your program asks of you... Otherwise you may face another hurdle.... My fragile ego pre WLS couldn't take a failure like before.. Best of luck with a different lifestyle!! -
I'm sorry for your experience. The last facts I reviewed show that 40% of lap band patients have the device removed . This board seems to not back up that statistic ... And yes, they are still being placed. ( one interesting note was older people have higher success rates) Many people are successful and COMPLIANT ... They may have gone on. Or not contribute here. There is a group of us that still adore our life Changing lapband. I wouldn't change it for anything. A very personal choice. Do your Research and make an informed decision. Best to us all for conquering the demons that conspire to make us overweight!!????

What Are Your Best WLS Tools?
Julie norton replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
A well stocked kitchen with WLS friendly foods, my trainer, and extra protein bars and drinks everywhere I might be. Edited to add this site.... Lots of great info and people here???? -
I really enjoy vintage automobiles. Mainly in summer when we have lots of car shows. They are just plain fun to drive around... Older folks love to chat about the era of the cars original date. This one is my favorite of all time! Also April thru September finds me at AT&T park. Go Giants ⚾️⚾️

Sorry to hear of tomander's passing He was regular poster. Thank you for telling us. -
Good thread I'll suggest that imho the battle is done at the store.... Grocery shopping is a land mine. It is where I try so hard to not falter. If it makes it home, it will get eaten . I try to look at ingredients:fat, calories and protein. And I always try. Yes ...sometimes more successfully than others. Habits can change... It just isn't easy.

Wow. Each week you are having great nsv!!! Size 8 is fabulous. You must be so proud of all your work and deservedly so!! Congrats
-
Yes I surely do. Sometimes from day to day my band will accept or decline the same foods. It can be frustrating when you are truly hungry. Protein drinks and bars seem to have the most acceptance over a long period. Best of luck... It can be frustrating!

My feet are cold ... Often. I have gone so far as to take the hair dryer and warm up my ugg boots or slippers before wearing. I have electric heating pads in 2 spots that I use daily, and an electric heating blanket on my bed. It is inconvenient, but I like it better than sweating. My take is that all the insulation of fat is almost gone. I also note I get colder if I don't eat much that day. Still, I prefer being healthy over being warm.... Spring is around the corner ????

No Straws After Gastric Sleeve Surgery...
Julie norton replied to gfawcetti's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok i am from California... But straws are coming under fire for plastic.. One use... Disposable garbage that get handed out without asking... So similar to our drought where restaurants will ask if you want water, now some places are asking if you really want a straw. Just a shift in thought maybe. -
I know I'm looking at this simply, however: It should not be so hard to be friends. It mostly does not involve hurt to remain friends. I'm guessing many of us have "taker" friends ( and giving friends I hope) And sometimes limiting contact is what I choose so I don't have to rethink and ruminate over the relationship....again...and again My take is that it could happen again. Best of luck to a strong person????????

Looking for Truckers with Lapband
Julie norton replied to MommaTrucks's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I seem to recall a member "bacon" I believe who was a long haul trucker. He talked about walking around the truck a lot. And pre packing everything. Hope he is still around.. I don't know, but I believe he was in the " accountability chat group. Good luck! -
I'm not a garbage pail
Julie norton replied to gowalking's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree that throwing out good food is a new habit I had to learn. Years of saving. Or shoveling it into me ... Really mindlessly ate leftovers straight out of the fridge in the old days. Now...Even when I try a new dish, if I don't "love" it ... It gets tossed. I am missing my faithful Labrador though. Cats don't like much of what I eat except a little bit of chicken. -
Great job. You look much healthier as the pictures progress. And so happy for you for the one- hundreds!!????

How exciting to know your life can change and you can be healthier! Congratulations! -
lizPerfect little black dress.... And now we can get a visual picture of your bf when you mention him. Looks like you were having fun.
-
Congratulations You are through the hardest part I think. Now you have a second chance to reset your weight. Consider yourself gifted with an opportunity to be much healthier. Just work the program is my personal advice. Don't obsess with the scale . Just get your healing going and work on protein, water and perhaps a bit of walking around. Best of luck and keep posting????

A couple of random NSVs
Julie norton replied to gowalking's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Count your blessings. A wonderful partner makes the world a lot easier. Sometimes we don't know, until they are gone, how much we were part of a team. Life is much different by yourself. I never, ever even thought about it before. I get the ups and downs of marriage, but the emptiness of standing alone is very hard. I don't wish it on anyone. Just enjoy your life today!???? -
Milk and bread? What? French toast? Protein drinks and bars and yogurt and string cheese. Coffee and wine no doubt. I could get by for awhile. Ok, chicken, broccoli and asparagus too!

Great posts by us 60 somethings. Funny, I am healthier today than I was before surgery at 51when I started this journey. I am thankful. I believe I would still be struggling, and likely losing the battle of the bulge had I not chosen WLS! This makes my life much better????

A couple of random NSVs
Julie norton replied to gowalking's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just like that my mind is not spinning the stories of " when I get up in a crowd, everyone will look at my size". So I would stay seated. I don't give those thoughts any attention anymore and it helps my self body image a lot to feel I am " normal" sized. ... To me.... That's what I like. My head has caught up with my size in the last 9 years and I don't have random moments of poor self esteem that really brought me down. It's not all rainbows and lollipops, but it sure is a hell of a lot better than before. I am thankful to remember that today.???? -
Starting Over is Always Scary but Worth It !
Julie norton replied to DeborahDav's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I keep my band on the looser side. It makes ME struggle more. That is what makes me want to not give up. Keep on with the protein drinks, bars, jerkey, string cheese, yogurt, a few nuts ( like us) chicken thighs in liquid. And artichokes, bananas, salad etc. Throw in a new potatoe occasionally, chili, refried beans and avocado and there is my plan for many moons. Seems to work, but I gotta work at it !! -
El Niño rain and King high tides on the California coast. Lots of storm activity Gotta clean the gutters again. And stay dry. We need the rain. Going to dinner and warriors basketball tonite to celebrate my oldest boy's 30th (!) Birthday..... Yikes. How did time slip by.... Just like WLS. The years come and go. Glad they are lighter and healthier years.
