I dvr my way through the many ridiculous parts of the series. I must say I thought the young twins had a chance with pushing each other and being young and in an athletic job. As others have mentioned... Where is the " where are they now" part... Not just a few contestants... I want to see lots! I think they sign some sort of waiver or I believe a show or book would show up about life on and off the ranch!! Jmo

January 2016 Banders
Julie norton replied to nygiants's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is a great place to ask questions, and just to explain what you feel like. Most likely, someone has some experience with what your concern is. Also, many are quick to let you know if something doesn't seem right. Good luck for a healthier life! -
This can change how you go through life. Just follow the program your doc says and wait a couple of months and I hope you are as overjoyed and positive about a new healthy you starting as I was!!

Soft foods diet and travel...
Julie norton replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Last week I traveled with ready to mix protein shakes with no issue. I would recommend breaking down a box of protein bars tho... I was stopped and searched as they show up as a sort of "brick".... Security doesn't like that . I have also asked the taxi to stop at cvs , Walgreens etc on the way to the hotel to get pre mixed shakes and stock up. It has not been a problem. Bon voyage [emoji93] -
I think many of us agree that cutting calories and exercising are wonderful weight loss tools. We still do this I think. Just a lot of us have a tool to help NOT regain after our loss. I wouldn't be a WLS recipient if that had worked for me in the long run. My belief is our metabolism gets changed by the frequent up and down, off and on dieting that the majority of America tries( hence the million dollar weight loss industry) It just was not sustainable for many. Hope you can beat the odds. They were at < 5 % last time I researched.

Getting banded Friday
Julie norton replied to CEOReady16's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Being banded is a wonderful tool for weight loss. But it looks about 40% of people have issues in the first 4 years. The surgery can be fairly easy; outpatient and home by the afternoon. The apprehension and worry was way harder for me than the actual procedure. I hope you have a successful weight loss like many of us. It changed my life!! (Sorry to say it appears I am a bit of a thread killer.... They just seem to end after me.... Is it me ? Do tell.. I don't want to be that person!) -
Sitting up on a Drs exam bed. And yes I have a numbing shot first. My port is directly in the middle of my chest. About 2" below the girls

Well I second cowgirl's point that this is just how life is now. Our new normal. I'm tending to think in terms of " this week ". Or " this month" ....I'm lower on the scale.... Or conversely higher .... Time to string together some on program days Often they don't come linear.... As others have pointed out, eating well 90% of the time is what lots of us try for. A bad eating day. Or a great eating day... Usually many of us are fairly on track .... Protein... Water... Some exercise Just a routine that gets derailed here and there... With vacations, cocktails, desserts... Whatever throws you off your game. Hopefully, your regular pattern does return. I believe we all want to succeed. I'm still trying!

Working out and staying off the scale
Julie norton replied to nursejenny07's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I agree with Jamie about the scale, but personally think hard workouts twice a day may be non sustainable and could overwork your body. Ask around the gym and read up on strength training.... Often people recommend a day off in between work outs. Good luck with your plastics ... They will halt the work outs for awhile! -
I too echo the reply that learning to do machines and weights CORRECTLY can save you much wear and tear years down the road. I found a trainer that was not high cost and split it with a friend. Just straightening out a leg during an exercise, or correct placement of hands and feet can help a lot! I am thankful to this day... And still work with her to make me try much harder than my own workouts. Best of luck!

Veterans....#1 thing you miss / don't miss
Julie norton replied to Kindle's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I don't miss being out of breath on a short incline, running hot all the time, not knowing what clothes will fit this WEEK, feeling like I was huge, being self conscious in a crowd, I guess I do miss knowing whatever I choose to eat will always agree with me..... All in all ... Really good trade off -
Menopause before surgery?
Julie norton replied to j16's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was 51 when I had WLS so yes menopause was happening. Now, years later, strangely enough, sugar often makes me have hot flashes . Other times they just happen ... Often when I wake up, I get the hot/ cold routine. I'm a bit weary of them after all this time, but so thankful that I am cold often due to weight loss. I can't imagine running so hot before WLS , and adding hot flashes! -
That is a hard issue for us veterans. The ability to enjoy some items we have not had in years is very tempting. I do understand the scale is not kind to us when we are not restricted. Wondering how long you will go without a fill? Please keep us posted. I am working with a small fill, but it seems to expand in the mornings. Best of luck !

Try to remember it is normal to be a bit worried and apprehensive. You are embarking on a new healthier life. It can be outpatient and you can be on the other side before you know it. Good luck. There are very nice people and lots of info on this site. I use it still and learn things years out!! Keep updating us!

Pregnant with a gastric band help!
Julie norton replied to mr51hou's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Be joyful you are honored with twins! Many do not get the opportunity. I'm thinking you should just relax and be as healthy as you can be. Walking when you are able.... Eating as well as you can and concentrate on growing babies. It is not easy. Best wishes on a good pregnancy -
Do you feel you still have to obsess about food?
Julie norton replied to librarianlk's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm with bandista here. It feels like these past 8 years were the new normal. It took about a year and a half for me to really get that life was not gonna be the same . I didn't have to obsess about food , weight, overeating ( the band made sure of that). How many times was I gonna get the message that I cannot eat a certain food or overeat on ANY food? My thick skull and years of poor choices took a few hundred. Yes hundreds ! of reconditioning steps to get to a point of peace with shopping cooking and eating. Feels like I don't have that internal struggle and I am SO THANKFUL!![emoji93] I gave the fight up and now just go with the choices I'm sure suit me. I wish that for all WLS patients! -
You are perfectly imperfect! Just start over again tomorrow and the next day. Repeat ...put together a few good days. This is for you to get healthy[emoji93]good luck

The greatest Valentine's Day for you Jim!! Happy for your family!!????

Time is your friend. Reevaluate this topic from the strength WLS gives you after things calm down. Things may look and feel much differently later. Really several months can change many things!! Best of luck

Many of us have stated we went home (or to a hotel in my case, as I was 3 hrs from home) hours after the outpatient procedure. I had a quick check up the next day and was driven home. Got out to walk around once during the ride The apprehension was worse than the procedure for me!!

What is your barometer for reaching goal ? May have found mine........
Julie norton replied to Dub's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I like the goal of healthy high school weight. Seems about right to me... I flirt with it and then cocktails and or vacation or some such derail it.... I'm right back at it the next day though.... Still chugging along years later -
Those long dinner parties. Cocktails. Appetizers. Dinner. Dessert. They are hard for me

sometimes I get a pain in my upper left. Like 2" or so below my boob. Walking and lightly rubbing it gives me some relief Or a heating pad helps. I think it is my actual band. But not totally sureWant to read your outcome!
